Lets Talk About Sex Baby
Posted in health, sexy ting tings, tech/gadgets by thuyRemember that Sex In The City episode where Miranda, Charlotte and Carrie go into a sex shop and discover the RABBIT? It vibrated at the shaft area, was pink and soft with rotating pearls and then… there were the fluttering ears! It was all the rage back then and still is to this day- ahem, or so I heard.
Do you know what it takes to make up that soft mound of pulsating, hunka hunka burning love? The infamous Phthalates, PVC and lots of of other nasty ass chemicals. And you stick that where??? Well breathe easy, there are plenty of ‘green’ but still pink versions made, minus the toxins… Where, you ask? At Babeland.com. Their model, The Rabbit Habit, is sheathed in 100% premium Elastomer, a high-quality material that is both latex and Phthalate free. It’ll set you back a benjamin but it’s worth EVERY penny- ahem, or so I heard. Oh and don’t forget to use your rechargeable batteries ladies!

Sensual Seduction
Posted in beauty, shopping by jenLadies, are you looking for the fountain of youth along with the secrets to soft skin?? Unfortunately I think we’ll be waiting awhile to find the key to eternal youth, however I can give you some insight into silky, soft, sensual skin while using products with ingredients you can actually pronounce.
The first step is to drink tons of filtered water from your SIGG bottle (no, we’re not getting paid to endorse them, it’s just a great product that no greenie should be without).
Next EXFOLIATE in the shower with an organic sugar scrub. I’m feeling the one from Nature Girl; the products are free of synthetic fragrances and dye, they donate a percentage of after-tax profits to environmental causes, they don’t test on animals and the packaging is super cute, which is always a plus!
After you towel off, quickly apply a super MOISTURIZING LOTION while your skin is a little damp, preferably a body butter. Nature Girls’ shea body balm is made with African shea butter, organic California lavender water and healing organic herbs.
Last but not least, finish off with a DRY OIL body spray by Suki with with a range of organic herbal ingredients. Best of all this product is vegan.
This is my personal skin softening regimen, but for a whole range of beauty tips check out Gorgeously Green By Sophie Uliano with a foreword by Julia Roberts.

RFD Is The Place To Be
Posted in food/drink by jenReal Food Daily (aka RFD) is like a healthy version of Swingers, minus the gothic waitresses, late night hours, grungy hipster boys, kitschy american diner decor… Ok, well I guess it’s nothing like Swingers but that’s what I tell my friends in an effort to wrangle them to my favorite breakfast eatery.
Real Food Daily is the only restaurant in Los Angeles that boasts a 100% vegetarian menu using foods grown exclusively with organic farming methods.
The other morning after a late night of debauchery that involved Patron shots and one too many Coronas, Thuy and I dragged our sorry butts into RFD looking for some serious comfort food. I’ll let the pictures do the talking but our meals involved flaxseed pancakes, tempeh bacon, tofu scramble with cashew cheese, hemp bread with vegan buttery spread and a chai tea latte with soy to wash it all down. Not your typical hangover cure, but it does the trick every time.

Boys We Heart: Joaquin Phoenix
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, boys we heart, celeb, environment, film/tv/print, food/drink, health, pets by thuy | Tags: animal rights, food, joaquin phoenix, petsThis Golden Globe and Grammy Award winning actor, director, producer and social activist makes my heart go pitty pat. On Jan 2nd, 2008, I fell head over heels for Joaquin after watching a movie called “Earthlings.” It wasn’t his dreamy blue eyes or the sexy scar above his lip that did me in because he doesn’t even appear in the film. It was his voice. Over the course of two years, Joaquin worked on the narration for EARTHLINGS which is a feature length documentary about humanity’s absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called “non-human providers.”
With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, EARTHLINGS uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit.
I commend Joaquin for being the voice to the ones that do not have one. It was a rude awakening for me, but one that was needed and as my friend Raymond said recently, ” I would rather embrace truth than hide from it.” You don’t have to turn vegan or stop wearing leather, but if you watch this movie it may open your eyes to what you have been putting in and on your body as well as the injustice these animals are served for our own pleasures and comfort. I bought the DVD so I can lend it to friends that are interested in watching it, but it is also available to watch online here.
Thanks Karen, once again. xx

B.Y.O.C (Bring Yo’ Own Cup)
Posted in events, food/drink, reduce/reuse/recycle, reusable by jenGreen Tip of the Week: Bring your own cup to your local coffee shop. The amount of unrecyclable waste that piles up from our morning (noon and night) coffee runs is unimaginable.
Although some coffee shops are using using ecotainer biodegradable cups, the perennial morning favorite, Starbucks, is not. The problem with the Starbucks cups is that although the outside is made of paper (10% recycled), the inner lining is made of petroleum based plastic which does not biodegrade.
The solution is to bring your own, mug, thermos, pimp cup (hey, whatever works for you) and say no to the single use unrecyclable one that will only get thrown in the trash and sit in a landfill until the end of time.
Walk Of Shame
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, celeb, fashion by jenWow! I’m speechless… Mary-Kate Olsen just takes this whole fur flaunting thing to a whole new level with her sick excuse for a fashion statement, fur handbag. As a style icon that many young girls emulate, perhaps she could be sending a more positive message. PETA has dubbed the Olsen twins, Hairy Kate and Trashley Trollsen, and have a website and myspace account dedicated to highlighting the Trollsen twins in all of their fur wearing glory… Not a green grown and sexy look at all ladies!

& Still
Posted in fashion, shopping by jenDo you dream of one-of-a kind deadstock vintage sportswear apparel all under one roof? As much as I like a vintage shoe or handbag you won’t catch me digging through piles of disorganized threads at places like Jet Rag. I just don’t have the patience for sifting through all the riff raff to find that one standout item.
The newest shop to join the retro club is called ‘& Still‘ and is located on the streetwear intensive corner of La Brea Ave (in Los Angeles) beside Undefeated. Here, you will find the answer to all of your vintage sportswear dreams with items from Starter, Nike, Reebok etc. Plus you will be lessing your carbon footprint by purchasing a recycled item.
So ladies, get out there and cop some gear for your man that will have his friends ‘green’ with envy or get yourself a throwback basketball jersey and rock it as a sexy tank dress. Either way you’re sure to get major ‘greenie’ points.

So Fresh And So Clean Clean
Posted in environment, health by thuy | Tags: cleaning supplies, environment, toxicRecently we ventured to Culver City to visit Rainbow Acres. It’s a mom and pop type store that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you walk in.. ta-dow! I was in awe of their cleaning supply section which is twice the size of what Whole Foods offers. I’ve been planning on switching to natural products once I’ve used up all of my toxic, lethal ones that contain dangerous ingredients, which can cause or contribute to cancer, respiratory problems, reproductive abnormalities, allergic reactions, and behavioral problems, among other issues.
Ingredients from traditional household cleaning products make their way into the environment through various routes: they are flushed down toilets, poured down sinks, sprayed into the air, thrown into the trash, and dumped onto the ground. In fact, many hazardous cleaning products are landfilled or incinerated, upon which they release their toxins into the environment and contribute to depletion of the ozone layer, pollute groundwater, contaminate the soil, and harm plant and animal life. Bye bye to Comet and 409. Hello to 7th Generation, Ecover, and Begley’s Best!

Total Aphrodisiac
Posted in fashion, shopping by thuy | Tags: fashion, shopping, textilesGreen fashion has come along way since tie dye colors, coarse hemp fabrics and Birkenstocks. We here at GGS get really excited when we see sustainable styles that we would actually wear.
Anne Salvatore Epstein launched Beau Soleil, named after her favorite oysters, in 2007. The company’s focus is on sustainability, fair trade and labor, as well as organic raw materials. The line uses fabric made out of bamboo, vegetable-dyed organic cottons and tencel, which is made from eucalyptus tress. Fufill your desires and head out to Saks, Planet Blue or click onto shopbop.com to get you some of this goodness.
