Daddy Does Obama
Posted in pets, politickin' by thuy | Tags: collar, muzzle-tov, obamaI’ve had the pleasure of dog sitting Daddy for Raymond in the past and he’s the sweetest dog ever. Next to my dog, Kobe, of course. I too have seen the silly political gear for pets, and I just couldn’t put my beloved four legged, bff through the torture of wearing a tshirt. He ain’t no Tinkerbell.
But I am loving this collar from Muzzle-Tov. I showed it to Kobe and he gave it a two paws up too, so I think we’re going to have to get him one.
Raymond, thanks for the fashion cue. I believe that’s a first.
BTW, Both Daddy and Kobe are rescue dogs. If you plan on getting a pet, please help save a life and choose from a rescue instead of a pet store or breeder.

50 Million Dollar Record Collection
Posted in music, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: largest record collectionDoes anyone want to help this poor guy recycle his record collection? Paul Mawhinney owns the largest collection of vinyl LPs and 45s in the world. Because of the digital music frenzy and the dwindling interest in physical music formats, Paul was forced to close his record shop. Now facing diabetes and rising health costs, he’s put up his entire collection for sale.
It had been appraised at about $50 million, but Paul was asking a mere $3 million. He’s had no serious offers, and an eBay auction back in February fell through. He is now selling his collection online here.
A fascinating fact about his collection:
If you started listening to the music in this collection on the day you were born, and listened every minute of every day, by the time you finished, you’d be 57 years old. That’s a lot of music. And it’s a lot of history.

Our Voices Will Change Their World
Posted in Peeps We Rep, baby/child, music, politickin' by thuy | Tags: agape, agape childrens choir, change our worldThe Agape Children’s Choir and Little Engine Productions have created a video called “Change My World,” with a non-partisan view, at encouraging voters to take an interest in our children’s future and taking their voices to the polls.
The emphasis of the words is on sending a positive political message while transcending party lines. Fifteen year-old Ayanna Stokes, who joined the choir at age ten, sings the lead vocals. This isn’t the first time Ayanna has used her musical talent in a political arena, as she was also a featured soloist for programs honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Stacy Peralta, an award winning documentary film maker known for such projects as Dogtown & Z Boys andRiding Giants, directed the video. The lyrics for the video, were written by Emmy nominated composer Tree Adams and producer Gina Matthews. Their collaborative goal was to use music as an inspiration, while using the voices of kids, to encourage voters to consider children and their future when they cast their ballots.
I recently attended Agape and pleasantly surprised to witness the children’s choir perform live. They sang, danced and even added in a message about recycling and the environment. Their performance was very inspiring, as is this video.
Do it for the children. Vote.
Thanks to Yosi Sergant for passing this along.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were signing copies of their new book, “Influence” at a Barnes and Noble bookstore in Union Square in NYC.
PETA acticvists arrived in full Olsen twin regalia baring signs that read “Fur hags from hell and fur tramps.”
When will the twins learn that fur is meant to be on animals…. not on your jacket, hat, handbag etc.

Humble Beginnings
Posted in Peeps We Rep, art, environment, home, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: home furnishings, humble, kristie thinnesMy dear friend Kristie Thinnes is an amazing interior decorator. She’s also a fellow greenie and an animal lover so I wasn’t the least bit surprised to find out that she had started an earth, human and animal friendly home furnishings line called Humble.
Humble products are inspired by the environment and respect the environment. All handmade printed designs are assembled in the USA and are 100% organic, vegan and made of sustainable materials. Humble is committed to supporting organic cotton farmers and keeping all products animal free, therefore creating hypo-allergenic, moisture resistant and pesticide free products. All products are biodegradable so they will eventually absorb back into the earth, where they came from.
Printed graphics are Kristie’s original illustrations, hand screen printed with eco-friendly, water-based non-toxic inks that have a soft feel. Humble graphics follow the lines of geometry, animals and color.
Humble pillows are meant to be small, soft pieces of art for your home. Kristie will be expanding the collection into home furnishing textiles and bedding in the near future and I can’t wait to see it.
Handmade. Organic. Made in the USA. Vegan. Sustainable. Supporting farmers. Animal & chemical free. Biodeagradeable. Damn Kristie- gold stars all across the board! Congrats baby girl.

Clorox = Green?

Launched in January 2008, Clorox Green Works eco-friendly cleaning products are on track to sell $40 million worth of its new line in the U.S, surpassing well known green companies such as Method and Seventh Generation.
Not only are Clorox Green Works products endorsed by conservation group Sierra Club, but they are now one of the few companies who have created cleaning products without the cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane.
Eco-conscious companies such as Method and Seventh Generation are still creating products with this deadly ingredient.

Apple Goes Green
Posted in reduce/reuse/recycle, tech/gadgets by jen | Tags: LED, MacBookDon’t run out and buy a flashy new MacBook just because you’re tryin’ to keep up with the Joneses. We all know by now that acquiring more unnecessary goods is definitely not a greenie move.
However, when your current computer crashes and burns (hopefully you backed up all of your bootleg music and x-rated pictures of your boo), you can rest assured that Apple’s newly refreshed line of MacBooks, MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs are going for the green.
Earth Friendly features include:
- All models are made with highly recyclable aluminum and glass, which is free from mercury and arsenic
- The 15-inch MacBook Pro consumes only 18 watts of power while in idle with the display on
- The MacBook backlit LED display uses 30 percent less power than before
- Due to the new unibody enclosure, Apple can reuse more materials for other products

Don’t roll your eyes at me, they’re probably your friends too. Many of us run in the same circles. And even if we don’t, please believe there is at least one person in your six degrees of separation that will not exercise their power to choose.
Anyway, I’m not going to mention any names but for those 3 non-voting friends (I know you’re reading this) and anyone else out there that’s not going to vote, please give us all a good laugh and take that badly photoshopped picture of Bush and photshop your mug into it and make it your new profile pic. Now, go to:
Facebook: Update your profile in third person: ____________ is choosing not to vote and will never complain about our government again. Ever.
Myspace: Post hella bulletins throughout the day:
- I did not vote because I don’t trust the government.
- I did not vote because I don’t want to get jury duty.
- I did not vote because my vote doesn’t count.
- I did not vote because I’m not into politickin’.

My Mom Is The Illest
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink, reduce/reuse/recycle, reusable by thuyEvery time my mom rolls into town from the Bay, it’s mandatory that we head out to Chinatown to spend a day shopping and eating. I was happy to see her sporting the reusable Whole Foods bag I gave her on her last trip out here. Asians love them some plastic bags so I’m proud that she’s at least attempting to take small baby steps and reduce her use of petroleum based bags.
The flicks below were shot around Chinatown.
Red ear slider turtles being sold at a kiosk along side kung fu slippers and bamboo plants.
Ducks and a pig hanging from a restaurant window. It was hella hot outside and even hotter inside. I couldn’t help but to think of all the bacteria that was growing on the flesh of someone’s future dinner.
My favorite was of homeboy rocking his recycling contraption as if he were on a rice paddy in Vietnam. My least favorite pix: see post below.

Black Market Los Angeles
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink by thuy | Tags: Add new tag, animal abuse, chinatown, turtlesAfter a long day of shopping in chinatown, my mom wanted to stop at a market to pick up some rice before we headed home. It was the typical shopping experience I have every time we go to any asian grocery store.. weird looking foods, funny smells, words I can’t read on packaging, and side eye stares thrown at me from the elders that translate into, “what are you doing in here whitey?” It’s definitely not your average Trade Joe’s run.
When we got to the fresh seafood section in the back of the store, I tried to hurry past the sickening sight and smell of the dead fish behind the glass counter. I HATE seafood. (I know, I’m a dysfunctional 1/2 asian.) I scurried past it all quickly, only to be stopped dead in my tracks by the sight above.
Turtles piled high on top of each other in cages without any room to move, food or water. What are turtles doing in an asian market? They’re on sale for turtle soup. Yep, you get to choose from neglected & confined small size turtles or stressed & battered large size ones. Oh and you also get your choice of hard shell or soft shell. The most f*cked up part was when I noticed a turtle with his shell cracked and bleeding.
A delicacy to some but painful and disgusting to me. Proposition 貳- let’s get it started.
