Carnival Queen Reps For Obama & The Amazon. Bush Is Whack!
Posted in eye candy, sexy ting tings by thuy | Tags: amazon, carnival, obamaPun intended.
SAO PAULO —A Brazilian carnival queen famous for her skimpy attire is grabbing headlines again for painting President Barack Obama’s face on her body.
Viviane Castro paraded nearly nude early Saturday with the U.S. leader’s visage on her right thigh. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s face was on her left thigh.
Castro’s stomach read “for sale” — a message she said represented the sale of Brazil’s Amazon to the U.S. Many here fear the U.S. wants to control the resource-rich region.
Castro appeared in last year’s Rio Carnival parade wearing nothing but a strategically placed piece of tape 1 1/2-inches (4-centimeters) long , violating a little-enforced nudity rule and drawing a penalty for her samba group. She wore the same patch this year.
And I need to know where she got that little patch. I had a styling gig for a short movie once and there was a nude scene.. I had the lovely job of covering up the actress’s lady parts to make her look naked. I went through hella Band-Aids, double sided tape and cut up thongs. It took me forever to get it right.
Brazilian women got the tricks of the trade on lock and I need to know their secret!!

In Case You Missed It
Posted in politickin' by thuy | Tags: obama, speechVisit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
Words from the man that makes me secrete tons of oxytocin out of every hole in my body.
We are a nation that has seen promise amid peril, and claimed opportunity from ordeal. Now we must be that nation again. That is why, even as it cuts back on the programs we don’t need, the budget I submit will invest in the three areas that are absolutely critical to our economic future: energy, health care, and education.
It begins with energy.
We know the country that harnesses the power of clean, renewable energy will lead the 21st century. And yet, it is China that has launched the largest effort in history to make their economy energy efficient. We invented solar technology, but we’ve fallen behind countries like Germany and Japan in producing it. New plug-in hybrids roll off our assembly lines, but they will run on batteries made in Korea.
Well I do not accept a future where the jobs and industries of tomorrow take root beyond our borders – and I know you don’t either. It is time for America to lead again.
Thanks to our recovery plan, we will double this nation’s supply of renewable energy in the next three years. We have also made the largest investment in basic research funding in American history – an investment that will spur not only new discoveries in energy, but breakthroughs in medicine, science, and technology.
We will soon lay down thousands of miles of power lines that can carry new energy to cities and towns across this country. And we will put Americans to work making our homes and buildings more efficient so that we can save billions of dollars on our energy bills.
But to truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy. So I ask this Congress to send me legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution and drives the production of more renewable energy in America. And to support that innovation, we will invest fifteen billion dollars a year to develop technologies like wind power and solar power; advanced biofuels, clean coal, and more fuel-efficient cars and trucks built right here in America.

Please Spread The Word For Daisy The Boxer!!
Posted in pets by thuyYa’ll know I have a soft spot for Boxer breeds, especially white ones. Although I would love for Kobe to have a buddy, I can’t take in another dog because we live in an apartment. Please, please, please spread the word. Daisy only has a few more days. Also, please listen to Bob Barker and get your pets neutered and spayed! Overpopulation in the pounds is why these animals only have a limited time before being euthanized.
Meet “Daisy” (A244279), 4 year-old spayed boxer/pit mix with special needs. Please network & cross-post!
Daisy (A244279) is a beautiful all-white, 65 pound boxer/pit mix at the Pasadena Humane Society. She has been at the shelter since January 6th with very little interest. Daisy appears to be deaf, or at least has some degree of hearing loss.
Daisy has been in our “step-up” program where volunteers can walk her around the park. They say that she is interested in squirrels, but is easily redirected with a “sit” command, which she knows perfectly. She loves just sitting next to someone and receiving attention.
Daisy did very well in her dog-to-dog evaluation; she plays very much like a boxer, but was totally receptive to the other dog when he had enough of her energy.
Daisy is a really sweet girl, but she has been overlooked here at PHS for far too long. We have been asked to get a commitment for this lovely girl by February 27th.
If you are able to rescue or adopt this special sweetheart, please contact the Pasadena Humane Society adoptions office at (626) 792-7151 x 137, Kevin at x 119, Mary at x 121, or Ute at x 117. Or email Kevin at mobile [at] phsspca [dot] org Mary at adoptsup [at] phsspca [dot] org or Ute at ute [at] phsspca [dot] org.
Terracycle
Posted in baby/child, charitable causes, environment, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: reduce/reuse/recycle, terracycleTerracycle creates amazing products from recycled goods. Terracycle began in 2001. Two Princeton University students (now co-founders of Terracycle) Tom Szaky and Jon Beyer, inspired by a worm box, set out to prove that a business could financially succeed while being ecologically and socially responsible. So far, so good.
The Terracycle Company first began the company selling eco-lawn and gardening products. The products were created out of recycled soda bottles, yogurts cups etc. The company continued by producing all natural cleaners in upcycled soda bottles. Naturally, the natural cleaning ingredients have never been tested on animals and are biodegradable.
But, if you think the Terracycle Company is the only ones that benefits financially from this environmental thinking and production, think again. Terracycle provides fundraising opportunities for schools, churches, charities and other organizations. Schools can collect recyclable material Terracylce needs and in return Terracycle pays a percentage for these materials to the school or organization.
Today the Terracycle Company has taken one more step in the green direction. It has created a line of eco-friendly school and office supplies. Believe it or not you can find them at Office Max. Some of the new products consist of: paper made from banana peels, pencil cases made from recycled juice pouches, colored pencils made from used newspapers, notebook made of recycled paper, metal ring and waste wrappers, binders made of recycled papers. Many of these products are made in the U.S. Some of these products, such as the binders, once worn and torn, can be returned to Terracycle to be upcycled again.

The HH also has Tier 2 marine diesel engines. These cleaner, fuel-efficient engines reduce the amount of diesel fuel used, emissions and overall carbon footprint.
The vessel also contains a number of other environmentally friendly materials. The carpeting contains post consumer recycled materials and is recyclable. Fairfax District Electronic Waste Recycling
Posted in environment, events, reduce/reuse/recycle, tech/gadgets by thuy | Tags: disposal, electronic wasteOnce again, I love my hood!! There will be a free electronic waste disposal at Fairfax highschool on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax this Saturday. If you can’t make it this weekend, you have two weekends per month during the month of March and April to start gathering up any broken or outdated ipods, cameras, shredders, tv’s, vcr’s and whatever other things you have sitting around collecting dust.
The processing of e-waste in developing countries causes serious health and pollution problems due to lack of containment, as do unprotected landfilling (due to leaching) and incineration. Reuse and recycling are promoted as alternatives to disposal as trash.
And feel free to stop by my place after doing your good deed. I’ll reward you with some organic moonshine and yummy vegan cookies.

MTA Taps Out On The Paper Pass
Posted in auto/transportation, reusable by thuy | Tags: metro cards, passes, tapReusable electronic fare cards will replace paper passes for daily use on Metropolitan Transportation Authority buses and rail lines starting March 15, Metro officials said Tuesday.
The Transit Access Pass, or TAP card, was designed to eventually replace bus, subway and train passes across all public transit systems in Los Angeles County.
To promote the use of the new system, Metro will provide complimentary TAP cards to customers who do not already have one when they buy a $5 day pass until April 11, or until supplies run out, according to Metro. After that, the plastic cards will cost $2 each. The rechargeable cards, which have been used in other cities for decades, will be sold at vending machines.
Well amen to getting rid of paper. Of course that still leaves us with the issue of the cards being plastic and non-recyclable but you can’t win them all.

Pet Chimp Killed After Attack
Posted in animal cruelty, news, pets by thuy | Tags: attack, killed, pet chimpA 200-pound chimpanzee kept as a pet and once used in commercials was shot and killed by police after it mauled a woman visiting its owner and later cornered an officer in his cruiser, authorities said. Stamford police Lt. Richard Conklin said the injured woman was hospitalized late Monday in “very serious” condition at Stamford Hospital.
The 15-year-old chimpanzee’s owner and two officers also were hurt. Police said they had no idea why the chimpanzee, named Travis, attacked the woman as she got out of her car to visit the animal’s owner, Sandra Herold. Conklin said Herold wrestled with the animal, then ran inside to call 911.
“She retrieved a large butcher knife and stabbed her longtime pet numerous times in an effort to save her friend, who was really being brutally attacked,” Conklin said.
When will people learn that wild animals cannot be domesticated? It’s like Chris Rock said when one of Siegfried and Roy’s tiger mauled Roy. ‘Everybody’s mad at the tiger. “That tiger went crazy!” That tiger didn’t go crazy…that tiger went TIGER.’

Palin released a statement calling the ad “reprehensible and hypocritical.”
“The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.
“Shame on the Defenders of Wildlife for twisting the truth in an effort to raise funds from innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times,” wrote Palin, reports Politico.
C’mon Sarah. It’s a well known fact that you LOVE to hunt. You’re also a fur hag and let’s not forget your infamous interview while a turkey was being slaughtered in the background.

White House Chef Thinks Green And Local

Dinners at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue might be a little greener these days: the new White House assistant chef, Sam Kass, is an environmentally conscious University of Chicago graduate who founded a home cooking service that focuses on ingredients from local farms.
Kass, 28, the Obama family’s personal chef in Chicago, will assist White House executive chef Cristeta Comerdord, a holdover from the Bush White House. Kass, who grew up in Chicago, trained at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Europe before going to work at Avec, a Chicago wine bar that specializes in Mediterranean food.
Avec chef-owner Paul Kahan has said, “The cool thing about Sam is that he’s very active, very involved with issues that relate to food. His goal has always been to improve the world from a food standpoint.”
After leaving Avec, Kass founded Inevitable Table, which according to the Web site promotes “a healthy lifestyle that focuses on the quality and flavor of food to encourage good eating habits.”
