In 2005 Hovey Lee launched her first jewelry line and captured the attention of the fashion and art communities. Since then her jewelry has been selected by fine art exhibits and featured in jewelry shows and boutiques around the nation and overseas.

Hovey Lee implements the principles of socially and economically responsible business by working with Fair Trade vendors and eco-friendly material producers.

I just used Hovey Lee in the last Coco Eco Magazine shoot and I was loving the line. Especially the gold bracelet above- very Christian Lacroix- without the expensive price tag.

The SolaVibe is compact, energy efficient and comes with its very own BRIGHT PINK solar panel! One of the commenters suggested leaving it on a windowsill to charge for a few hours- hahaha- holy shit! What if you forgot to put it away? How would you explain that one? Guess you could say it’s to charge your Hello Kitty travel toothbrush or something.

You’ll help save the environment by cutting out batteries, your lady bit will be safe because it’s phthalate-free and you get three uses in one- clitoral, internal vaginal or anal vibes. Sounds like my kinda party! Table for one please.

And the item below isn’t green. It’s white, like my old school first gen iPod. The OhMiBod plugs into any MP3 player and it vibrates to the music…Hello!! Hold up! MAXWELL! Wait, has Johnny Depp ever recorded anything? Google time!

Somehow I got my one good brain cell to figure out how to post HTML codes for pics on my blog-which for me is like learning to read Latvian. The only problem is, I now have to go through an additional website to create the code but as our friend Marcus Troy said, “Blogging ain’t easy but somebody’s got to do it.”

It was a nice short break, but honestly, I kinda missed posting. Sitting on my laptop, researching stories, scouring blogs and having a drink in between. Then looking for pictures, sizing them and then having another drink. Linking, categorizing, tagging and then.. you get the picture- I missed leisurely boozing while blogging!

Here’s my MJ tribute song. I didn’t even know about it until today.

What have we done to the world
Look what we’ve done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son…
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine…
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores

Never can say goodbye- so for now I thank him for giving us a gazillion memorable party time songs..he definitely made his mark on this earth and will be missed.

Shape-Shifting Solar iChange Vehicle

Posted in auto/transportation, solar by thuy | Tags: , , , , ,

solarichange

Swiss automaker Rinspeed unveiled another quirky concept at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show: an electric sports car that grows. At the push of a button, the rear end of the iChange pops up to expand from a one-seater to accommodate two additional passengers.

When configured for just one occupant, the driver sits in the center of the car, and the exterior canopy forms an aerodynamic teardrop shape. Expanding the rear for more passengers creates seats on either side behind the driver. In this mode, optimum aerodynamics are sacrificed for increased interior space.

Power for the iChange comes from an electric motor producing 201 horsepower. The sprint to 60 mph comes in just over 4 seconds, and top speed is 137 mph. The car’s lithium-ion batteries are designed with two different configurations for long- and short-distance driving. To maximize range, weight is kept to just over 2,300 pounds.

There are no doors on the iChange. Instead, the entire roof canopy tilts forward using electric power. Solar panels on the roof drive fans that keep the interior comfortable in the summer and also charge the batteries. In place of the traditional car key, the iChange uses an Apple iPhone, which also controls many other vehicle functions. The navigation system also features the ability to calculate the route that requires the least energy.

Get Rid Of Old Sets Responsibly

television

Television sets that will become obsolete with last weeks switch to all-digital broadcasts can only be disposed at approved locations.

A 17-inch television with a cathode ray tube typically contains about two pounds of lead, a known toxic substance. Larger sets may contain as much as 10 pounds of lead.

To avoid polluting the soil and groundwater, the state Department of Toxic Substances Control has banned disposing of televisions in landfills, and ruled that they should instead be taken to centers approved to accept electronic waste.

The Sanitation Bureau will leave flyers on recycling and trash containers with the locations of the approved centers in Los Angeles. The locations are also listed on the city’s Web site, www.lacity.org.

Here is a list of locations in Los Angeles where television sets can be disposed and their hours of operations:

  • 7660 W. Imperial Highway
    Playa Del Rey
    Saturdays and Sundays
    9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Cove, which has won honors at many film festivals, including the Audience Award at January’s Sundance Film Festival, chronicles the efforts of Richard O’Barry and the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition to stop the brutal annual slaughter of thousands of dolphins in Japan. The Cove also won the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.

“The dolphin slaughter is scheduled to begin again on September 1st,” notes Richard O’Barry, Director of Save Japan Dolphins. “The world-wide exposure of the dolphin slaughter through The Cove movie is going to put a spot-light on this secret environmental disaster. It can’t happen too soon.”

“We believe The Cove will be a game-changer,” stated David Phillips, Director of Earth Island Institute’s International Marine Mammal Project, a members of the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition. “Japan’s flaunting of international agreements and international norms must end — the killing of dolphins and whales is no longer accepted by civilized society.”

Breakin’ It Down: Resin Identification Code

Posted in breakin' it down, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: , , ,

The SPI resin identification coding system is a set of symbols placed on plastics to identify the polymer type. It was developed by the Society of the Plastics Indsutry (SPI) in 1988, and used internationally.

Most plastics can be recycled, but they have to be separated into their different polymertypes. Because of the difficulty and expense of sorting, collecting, cleaning and reprocessing, at the moment it is only economically viable to recycle PETE and HDPE. Thermosplastics can be remelted, but thermosetting plastics can only be crushed and used as insulation.

The symbols used in the code consist of arrows that cycle clockwise to form a rounded triangle and enclosing a number, often with an acronym representing the plastic below the triangle. When the number is omitted, the symbol is known as the universal Recycling Symbol, indicating generic recyclable materials.

Click here for a breakdown of the 7 types of plastic packaging, what they’re used for and if they’re recyclable.

Jessica Alba: Activist FAIL

Posted in animal rights, celeb, in the wild by thuy | Tags: , , , , , , ,

Last month I did a post on these posters that have been mysteriously popping up on walls in various cities. The purpose of the guerilla marketing from White Mike is to raise awareness about the dwindling population of great white sharks.

Until now, the person or persons that started this poster plastering campaign has remained a mystery.

Well guess which celeb got busted for putting the posters up in Oklahoma City, over a United Way (oops! that’s a non-profit) poster no less?

Little Ms. Into the Blue herself. She posted posters for a good cause- documented it on a camera (bad move) got heat from United Way and then issued this statement:

I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”

Way to go by blaming the people behind the campaign Jess. Judging by your big smile and *hands in the air* pics, it doesn’t look like anyone put a gun to your head or forced the glue into your hands. You know all the sharks are saying: “You’re doing it wrong HONEY!”

As for the real people behind White Mike.. I guess any press is good press.

Woman Pays 10K Ransom for Stolen Dog

Posted in animal rights, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags:

Long story short. Woman leaves her ‘chorkie’ dog in car while eating at restaurant. Comes back to car- realizes car window has been smashed and her beloved dog is gone. Posts up $10,000 reward posters. Deals with a bunch of fakes for 2.5 days but finally gets an email of a picture of her dog. Meets up with the evil peeps, pays the ransom and asks no questions. All is good again.

I love my pup Kobe to death and I would definitely pay 10 G’s to get him back. I’d have to rob someone or do the ho stroll on sunset blvd for a few weeks first but of course it would be totally worth it.

Glad for the happy ending. I’ll now add ‘do not leave Kobe in car’ to my ‘do not leave Kobe tied to poles outside of restaurants or stores’ list. Thanks for making our world a better place dog snatchers!

HOME is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Betrand (photographer of “Earth from Above” book.). The film is entirely composed of aerial shots of various places around Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet.

The movie was released simultaneously on June 5th (World Environmental Day) in cinemas all over the world, on DVD, TV and on YouTube. Released on the same date in 50 countries is a world record for any film release in history. The film is 100% free, and no profits will be made from its release or future showings.

Making this movie was an unusual risk for its financial backer, one of the planet’s biggest retailing conglomerates, France’s PPR SA. PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid 10 million euros ($20.55 million) of the 12 million euro production budget to create HOME.

Laurent Claquin, senior vice-president of corporate social and environmental responsibility at PPR, said the company took a chance on the film.

“It’s true we’re putting ourselves at risk in a way,” said “We’re not perfect yet. We’re never going to be perfect. But we have a duty to act.”

In May, PPR Chief Executive Francois-Henri Pinaulttold a press conference: “This film commits us not to consume less, but to consume differently.”

The film is narrated in English by Glenn Close, in Spanish by Salma Hayek – also Pinault’s wife – and in 15 other languages.

Belgian City Goes Veggie Once A Week

Posted in environment, food/drink, health, veggie love by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Starting last month in Ghent, there have been regular weekly meatless days in which civil servants and elected councillors opt for vegetarian meals.

The UN says livestock is responsible for nearly one-fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions, hence Ghent’s declaration of a weekly “veggie day”.

Public officials and politicians were the first to give up meat for a day. Schoolchildren followed suit with their own veggiedag in September.

It is hoped the move will cut Ghent’s environmental footprint and help tackle obesity.

Around 90,000 so-called “veggie street maps” are now being printed to help people find the city’s vegetarian eateries.

Louis Vuitton: Your Wish Is Their Command

Posted in Logistics, fashion, shopping, solar, tech/gadgets by thuy | Tags: ,

Louis Vuitton is happy to create almost any custom piece, if you’ve got the cash. Last year Karl Lagerfield bought a custom LV trunk to hold his 20 iPods. And now a Chinese gentleman has commissioned something a little more grandiose, and just a little more strange.

The client “wanted to be able to watch television and offer coffee to his friends wherever he traveled in the world, including the remotest desert,” Louis Vuitton’s Patrick-Louis Vuitton recounts. “We agreed to put two solar panels linked to a battery for the flat-screen TV and DVD player, two-way radio, tuner and coffee machine.”

The one-of-a-kind trunk, which is covered in the label’s iconic Damier canvas, took a year to complete and costs tens of thousands of dollars.

One person who probably won’t line up for an exclusive LV trunk is the brand’s creative director, Marc Jacobs. He commented at the recent Met Costume Institute Gala that he doubts trunks will ever make a comeback.

I don’t think there’s anything practical about traveling with a trunk,” he said. “Luxury travel is traveling with a toothbrush. That’s it, end of story. The people who really live luxurious lives don’t need to pack. They’ve got stuff wherever they go.”

I can’t knock anything with a solar cause but I’m totally laughing at the image of homeboy on a deserted island with this trunk. Seriously?

Singer-PETA activist Pink is fiery and disgusted about sitting next to Kanye West and hearing him whine about the absence of fur during a Stella McCartney fashion show..

Pink told Australia’s FHM, “Kanye West is the person pissing me off right now. I was at Stella McCartney’s fashion show with the vice president of PETA, Paul McCartney and Kanye.”

“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”

FUCKING DUH YEEZY! SOUNDS LIKE A CERTAIN FASHION INTERN NEEDS TO DO SOME MORE STUDYING!! HOW COULD THE SELF-PROCLAIMED LOUIS VUITTON DON NOT KNOW THAT STELLA MCCARTNEY, PINK, PAUL AND THE HEAD HONCHO OF PETA HATES FUR!?!?

Damn, I hope your eyes are ok. Needed to give Martin Louie King Jr. a taste of his own medicine. If anything, I think I’ve only made myself nauseous typing with the caps-lock on.

Orlando Bloooms lady, Miranda Kerr takes her clothes off, posing for the Australian edition of Rolling Stone magazine’s upcoming “Green Issue”.

In an interview with the magazine, Miranda admits that she has decided to take her kit off to draw public attention to the extinction of koala bears. “It’s a sad thing,” she tells Rolling Stone. “There are only about 100,000 koalas left in Australia. Something like 80 percent of the koalas’ habitat has been destroyed since Europeans arrived in Australia.”

Eye candy for a cause. I ain’t mad.

And to all my FB peeps, this is why I don’t get your messages on FB. My inbox alone is at 123 unread messages and as for all the requests… who the hell is still playing Mafia Wars and the water gun game? And don’t make me call out the person that sent me an invite to the ZOMBIE application last month- it’s dumb and just wrong that you’re a grown ass adult and still playing it!

Between FB, Twitter, the blog, my BBM, and 3 email accts.. I just can’t. Please resort back to the old school way. Email or call me. Drunk texts work too.
