This is part 1 of an upcoming series produced by Sarah Shewey of Pink Cloud Events. It features the guys of Fallen Fruit and Damien Somerset of Zaproot having candid and unscripted conversations while driving in a new Honda Insight.

Kudos to you Sarah! And I’ll be sure to never throw my apple cores out on the street again.

Earth Cinema Circle

Photobucket

I’ve been reading about Earth Cinema Circle for quite some time and I’ve finally made the decision to join after realizing I’m pretty obsessed with movies such as ‘Food Inc.’ and ‘The Cove.’ Movies like these don’t usually get an entire back wall of “Guaranteed In Stock!” at Blockbuster- but they should!

Earth Cinema Circle is a DVD club dedicated to increasing social & environmental awareness through entertaining films.

How it works: Every other month the customer is sent 1 DVD containing 4 environmental movies on it. It is sent in 100% recycled packaging and after viewing the movies, they’re yours to keep. All that for the low price of $17.95 (plus $4.95 s+h.) Bonus: Earth Circle Cinema is sponsored by Gaiam and narrated by Ed Begley, Jr. Beat that Netflix!

If you break that down, including shipping, you’re only paying $5.73 a movie. Cheaper than a matinee and more fulfilling than the entire box set of Gossip Girl.

Check it out and do your recession ridden wallets a favor and support environmental filmmakers by joining Earth Cinema Circle now!

Their egg scrambles, breakfast a la carte plates (Chilaquiles above- to die for!!) and pancakes are popular morning options; their create-a-plate feature allows flexibility for lunch or dinner.

We arrived to the 5 bedroom house and felt like we were in an episode of The Real World. Meeting our roomies and having our minds blown by the fully equipped house full of goodies.

Photobucket

Day at the beach where we were all treated to mani’s and pedi’s courtesy of Michael.

We pretty much spent the entire weekend at the house.. doing exactly what I said we would be doing..

Photobucket

Lots of this, that, that and that.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

There were actually some eco-friendly elements to the weekend. The home water treatment system at the house provided us with an eco-friendly home water purification and water softener solution. Most of the food used at home had organic ingredients (thanks for the delicious meals Edean & Jenni.) And we also had our very own keg of Fat Tire Beer- (one of the few beer breweries that practices sustainability.

Photobucket

I won this ca-ute reusable shopping bag from playing ‘Pin the Macho on the Man.” Hungover, bindfolded and spun several times I somehow managed to make a bulls eye target.

Photobucket

Photobucket

And that’s all I can mention… there are images and reputations to uphold. Not mine of course, but for the sake of others.

Thanks to all the lovely ladies for making this a memorable weekend full of love, laughs and liver problems. And thanks to everyone for contributing in bringing/making food and to all that helped with cleaning and to the ones that provided games, prizes and crafts. Most of all thanks to Edean for putting it all together!

Photobucket

Congratulations Michelle! Love you. BTW- is that a penis straw in your cake?

And sales of home water filtering systems are up. Yay! Target is having a sale on Brita filters (which are now recyclable) and pitchers until September. On top of that, you get a $5 Tar-jay gift card with every Brita purchase.

Then all you need are some of these eco-friendly, good for the planet, non-leaching (good for you,) reusable bottles and ta-dow! How you like me now?

Must See Movie: Food, Inc.

Posted in film/tv/print, food/drink, health, organic, politickin', shopping, veggie love, video/media by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Photobucket

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment.

We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield’s Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms’ Joel Salatin, Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

F*CK RINGLING BROS!

Posted in animal rights, baby/child, events, in the wild, los angeles, video/media, wtf by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Sorry about being out of commission since being back. Busy with work and prepping for my next shoot with Coco Eco Magazine.

I was just sent this link from Perez Hilton. Ringling Bros. had their show (arrived the day of the Michael Jackson Memorial) in LA at the Staples Center- they had a 4 day run beginning on July 9th.

When I heard that a few of my friends were going to the circus that week, my stomach knotted up. I tried explaining to them that the animals (especially the elephants) get beat and it didn’t make a difference. How could it if you only see the glittery show side and not what goes on behind those curtains and what they go through while traveling between cities and in their training sessions?

PETA vice president Daphna Nachminovitch said that their undercover agent “witnessed these elephants being beaten for no apparent reason.”

Ringling Bros. said they could not comment on the video because it had not been viewed yet, but they did say that “PETA is an animal rights extremist group…We are very proud of our animal care, we are committed to the care of all our animals partly through our conservation programs at the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation…We have 139 years of experience of working with Asian elephants.”

If you support Ringling Bitchasses this is what your money is contributing to.

Disgusting.

FUCK YOU RINGLING BASTARDS!

One pissed off bitch.

I’m Back But Not Really

I spent the better part of yesterday recovering, reminiscing, resting and rehydrating. And then wrapped it up by unpacking penis paraphernalia, learning how to speak again, having someone administer a continuous supply of pho broth to me intravenously and trying to get our weekend bachelorette party theme song outta my head! It’s on repeat and I must make it stop!

Yeah, don’t ask. It wasn’t anybody’s bday and there was no sexin’ going on (wink.) Thanks limo dude for having the best music selection ever.

Be back in full effect manana (I hope.)

Something In The Blood Ain’t Clean

Posted in animal rights, environment, health, in the wild, video/media, wtf by thuy

In Nova Scotia, Canada, there’s a problem with tampon applicators backing up the sewer system and overflowing into the ocean (hello ladies, it’s called a trash can and your brain- use them.)

Recently, a Dutch tampon company Libresse thought it would be a great idea to drop thousands of tampons with little parachutes attached to them out of planes and onto 6 popular Dutch beaches. Why? Well, the manufacturer of Libresse wants the females to put a bloody cork in it (literally) and hit the beaches while Aunt Dot is visiting. Seriously ladies. Why let that pesky little crimson tide between your legs stop you from having fun in the sun?

I just wanna thank the cooter plug maker for adding to our pollution problem. Oh and for contributing to that other thing- when birds and aquatic animals mistake plastics for food, eat them and choke to death..yeah, your marketing scheme was pure genius. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is just a joke right? Well I saw it on Oprah so it must be real!

Nike Reuse A Shoe

Posted in fashion, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Photobucket

The Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program collects worn-out athletic shoes of all brands at Nike stores and other locations worldwide.

The shoes are recycled into Nike Grind, a material used to help build sports surfaces and playgrounds. Nike is also working to incorporate more Nike Grind and other environmentally preferred materials into consumer products like shoes and apparel.

Learn more at Nike Reuse A Shoe

Since 1990, they’ve collected more than 21 million pairs of athletic shoes and countless pounds of manufacturing scrap, giving new life to what is viewed as trash.

It’s all part of Nike’s journey toward a closed-loop business -– where waste at different stages of their operations, from their contract factories to transportation and eventually the product at the end of its life — can be recycled into new Nike products. Breakin’ It Down: Soy Fabric

Posted in breakin' it down, fashion by thuy | Tags: , , ,

soy

Soy fabric is luxuriously soft and comfortable, often likened to silk or cashmere. Besides being softer than cotton, soy fabric is more durable and long-lasting (and it keeps getting softer the more times you wash it). It dries quicker than cotton and is extremely easy to care for.

Soy fabric is eco-friendly and sustainable because of the way it is made. Soy fabric is manufactured from the by-products of soy food products, like tofu and soybean oil. Since the process uses materials that would otherwise be waste, it is considered to “close the loop” on soy.

What The EFF-YU-CEE-KAY?

Posted in animal rights, food/drink, in the wild, los angeles by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Photobucket

Went to a herbal store in Chinatown (in LA, it’s more like Vietnam town) with my mom. I was expecting to see some ginseng, cinnamon & ginger. I was not prepared to see this.

Photobucket

Shark fins!!!! At $499 a lb? That’s like 10 fins for 5 bills! I had to ask my mom if that was in US or Vietnamese dollars. She gave me the “Girl are you stupid? We’re in America” side eye.

No wonder why it’s considered a delicacy.

“Finning” refers to the practice of cutting off only the shark fins and discarding the body. Sometimes sharks are dead when they’re pulled into the boats, but often, they’re still alive as their four fins are cut off with a knife. When they’re thrown back into the ocean the sharks either bleed to death, or they drown, because sharks can’t swim without fins, and they need to go forward to get oxygen.

It made me sad to see this. But then I saw something that always puts a smile on my face.

Photobucket

Photobucket

BOOOOOOZE! And then my eyeballs popped outta my head again. WTF?

Mom, are we done here? Lets go. I want to go home and hug my teddy bear and my $40 Costco size bottle of Belvedere.
