Monsanto: Liar Liar, Seeds On Fire
Posted in food/drink, health, veggie love by thuy | Tags: food inc, MonsantoMonsanto= EVIL. And they’re not too happy about their portrayal in Food Inc. From their site:
Welcome to the Monsanto Fact site about the movie Food, Inc.
Food, Inc. is a one-sided, biased film that the creators claim will “lift the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer.” Unfortunately, Food, Inc. is counter-productive to the serious dialogue surrounding the critical topic of our nation’s food supply.
And they even provide a fun lil’ quiz for you to take. It says I lost but I got every single one of those answers right.

This Should Be Good For The Landfills
Posted in film/tv/print, tech/gadgets, video/media by thuy | Tags: CBS, digital advertisementWired reports that CBS has embedded a video ad in Entertainment Weekly. The ad is called a “VIP (video-in-print) promotion” and it works similar to the audio greeting cards. Wired says it works better than Esquire’s e-ink cover did, but the one downside to the ad is that it is loud and there is no volume control.
Let me see.. a 2-5 minute promo and then a lifetime in a landfill. Makes total sense.

Mother Jones Calls Out Fiji Water
Posted in environment, food/drink by thuy | Tags: fiji water, filtered water, greenwashing, mother jonesA post on the Fiji Water Blog attempts to answer the issues brought up in a recent Mother Jone article: “The real irony here is that the reporter suggests that buying FIJI Water somehow legitimizes a military dictatorship, when in fact the jobs, revenues, and community projects supported by FIJI Water are strong contributors to growth in the well-being of the Fijian people.” Oh, and there’s a Mother Jones response to the response in the comments of the Fiji Water Blog post.
Thanks Raymond!

Eros & Isis: Eco Gets Erotic
Posted in fashion, sexy ting tings, shopping by thuy | Tags: bamboo, eco-lingerie, eco-sex toys, eros & isis, ethical, organic cotton, organic massage oils, soyEros & Isis offers organic massage oils, eco-friendly lounge wear and toys and which can double up as interesting display pieces.
The three signature massage oils are blended with 100% organic ingredients and stored in handmade, recycled glass bottles.
The sexy lingerie pieces are made from soy, bamboo, organic cotton or ethical silk.
Each toy is manufactured in N. America under strict ethical practices. The toys are made from the same silicone found in FDA approved kitchen utensils and are non-toxic and dishwasher safe. The coloring is made with natural mineral powder pigment to give the silver, bronze and gold sheen. And as noted on their site: Although they look like stone, each piece is surprisingly soft and warm to the touch.
Love the sexy lingerie and of course two thumbs up for use of recycled glass to house the massage oils. The dildos/vibrators look like something my g’ma would have on her mantle, but like she used to say, “don’t knock it until you try it.”
Sold and sold.

Brent Bolthouse Photography Show: Greenland (A Beautiful Lie)
Posted in celeb, environment, music by thuy | Tags: a beautiful lie, brent bolthouse, glaciers, greenland, jared leto, thirty seconds to marsExcited about hitting this up tonight. From the invite:
These photographs are the story of my trip to Greenland with my good friends from Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Jared Leto went to Greenland on an environmental mission to shoot a video for his band’s single, A Beautiful Lie, and invited me along to take photos.
He came back with an incredible video that focuses on the effect global warming is having on the world’s coldest climates and I came back with the photographs featured in this show.
Although it has only been two years since my trip, the glaciers and icebergs have already changed dramatically. I hope you enjoy the exhibit, but also take time to reflect on the fact that this ice is disappearing at an alarming rate.

Lady Gaga Dons Kermit To Denounce Fur
Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, music, wtf by thuy | Tags: Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, kermit the frog, lady gagaNever one to shy away from being outrageous, Lady Gaga wore this get up during an interview on a German TV show.
Inevitably, the interview took a turn towards Lady Gaga’s unconventional fashion choices in recent European interviews, specifically a coat made up completely of plush Kermit the Frog puppets.
“The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces,” said Gaga. “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing at the house because it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”
Umm..is it just me or does she kinda resemble Janice?

Samsung Reclaim Eco-phone
Posted in reduce/reuse/recycle, tech/gadgets by thuyThe Reclaim is created from 80 percent recyclable bio-plastic material, its packaging is compact and made from 70 percent recycled materials and printed with soy-based inks. Samsung offers only an electronic manual for the phone, available on the Sprint website, in an effort to save paper. It also includes a more efficient Energy Star phone charger.
Two dollars of each Reclaim purchase will benefit Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre conservation program. Sprint also announced efforts to support other green initiatives. It has established environmental design standards and as a corporation it has pledged to reduce paper usage by 30 percent over the next five years.
With technology today, consumers upgrade their phones after 1-1.5 years. That’s a whole lotta electronic waste. Cell manufacturer’s need to take note. Until then, I’ll be patiently waiting, Blackberry.

Heath Ledger X Modest Mouse: For The Whales
Posted in animal rights, celeb, charitable causes, in the wild, music, video/media by thuy | Tags: heath ledger, modest mouse, sea shepherd conservation society, whale huntingBefore his untimely death, Heath Ledger began directing a video for Modest Mouse’s “King Rat”. Unfortunately he died before the video was completed, and it has been languishing in limbo until now.
The concept of “King Rat” video is based on Ledger’s “vision, brave and unapologetic in its nature [which] marry his love of bold and original music with his impassioned stance against the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place of the coast of Australia each year.” Proceeds from this video’s downloads in its first month of release will go toward Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an international non-profit organization committed to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.
Watch Ledger’s music video, completed by his associates at the Masses, a violently unabashed commentary on illegal whale hunting.

Brazilian PSA: Give Your Shower A Golden Shower
Posted in environment, video/media by thuy | Tags: brazil PSA, pee in the shower, rainforestsWarning: If you’re at work I would turn the volume down. Here’s a rough translation:
Pee in the shower! We want everyone to do it!
Men! Women! Children! Brazilians! Or not! Nobles! Commoners! Musicians! Sports stars! People half-human, half-monster. Twilight creatures! Brazilian legends. Greek legends. Good people. Not so good people. Art geniuses. Science geniuses Circus performers. Lovers! People from other planets! Movie stars!
To sum it up: If you pee, you’re invited.
(when you flush you waste up to 12 liters of drinkable water / 4380 liters in one year)
Pee in the bath! Help the Atlantic Forest.
Only recommended if you have good drainage. And make sure R. Kelly ain’t around.

Leila Hafzi
Posted in fair trade, fashion by thuy | Tags: AZO free dyes, herbal ayurvedic dyes, leila hafziLeila Hafzi presented her first collection in Stavenger, Norway, in 1997. With this, she introduced the idea of organic- and ethical trade to the high end fashion industry. During the past ten years, the designer has built a network which represents the very best Nepal has to offer in tailoring and fabrics. Since then, her goal has remained unchanged: to introduce and represent eco-and ethical trade in the fashion industry on a global basis, and in the future to develop an entirely environmental friendly production style.
I’ve used Leila’s dresses in several shoots and they’re stunning. The vibrant bright colors are created with AZO free dyes and the paler colors with herbal Ayurvedic dyes. Each piece is handmade and utilizes fair trade practices.
Definitely a dress to wear down the green carpet.

Dear Huffington Post, You’re Doing It Wrong
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, in the wild, news, politickin', wtf by thuy | Tags: ad sales, animal cruelty, huffington post, huffington post promoting animal cruelty, peta, ringling bros.I go to Huffington Post to get my daily dose of news and to source stories for my own blog in their “green” section. They posted the story about PETA busting Ringling Bros. in an undercover video beating elephants and tigers. HP normally posts about a range of animal issues, but what I didn’t expect to see was a front page ad for a discount on Ringling Bros. tickets.
C’mon Huffpo. I don’t want to be reminded of that video every time I go to your front page to read Buzzfeed. I know, I know, ad dollars, but seriously? Did you all not see what I saw in that 5 minute video below? Bull hooks being brought down repeatedly on those elephants? Looks like animal cruelty to me.
Please do not support the most horrible show on earth!
