Baddest Mom-Mobile On Two Wheels: Makes Me Want To Pop One Of Those Baby Things Out!
Posted in auto/transportation, baby/child, board/bikes by thuy | Tags: Bridgestone Angelino Assista Electric Bike, electric bike, kids seatThe Bridgestone Angelino Assista electric bike is a bicycle for parents: this one has no crossbar, a child seat (there’s also space for one on the back) and an electric motor to help with the pedaling. It’s range per charge is 37 miles. The handlebars are elongated so that the adult can see right over the top of the child.
There’s a long list of it’s features that can be found at the G Living link below. I’m too lazy to write them all out. The only one I care to mention is that the baby seat can be transformed into a basket! Guess I won’t have to join the Hollywood baby manufacturing alliance after all.
Asking price: $1312.00. Not bad IMO compared to the ones I saw at Best Buy recently.

Terracycle Wants Your Wrappers
Posted in baby/child, food/drink, holiday, reduce/reuse/recycle, shopping by thuy | Tags: candy spelling, food wrappers, gift wrapping, kite, reduce/reuse/recycle, terracycleTodays theme in my posts: junk food. Bad for us, but we still eat them.
I check in with Terracycle from time to time to see what new recycled wrapper products they’ve come up with.
I loved flying kites when I was a kid. And I also loved Oreo cookies dipped in milk. Now, not so much. But this kite made from recycled wrappers for the low price of $5.99 is pretty slick.
The holidays are less than 100 days away and although my Candy Spelling manic wrapping days are over, sometimes a bow on a plain box or bag adds just the right touch.
Go to Terracycle to find out which retail locations carry their products or join their online brigades to raise money from your wrappers to donate to a charity or your favorite school.

All under $5 at the Funky Recycling Etsy shop.

Lunch Encounters Of The Third Kind
Posted in baby/child, food/drink, health, veggie love by thuy | Tags: Child Nutrition Act, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Farm to School, Lunch Encounters, mcdonalds, One Tray campaignLunch Encounters of the Third Kind from Parent Earth on Vimeo.
“Lunch Encounters” launched the One Tray campaign depicting the cafeteria tray as the conduit for a reformed school food system that supports healthy children, local farms, and smart schools. “Lunch Encounters,” a spoof of Close Encounters of the Third Kind was made to raise awareness for the upcoming reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act.
The videos are clear: if you want a healthier America, take action at onetray.org. Every child deserves the opportunity to eat food in school that ensures their health and well-being and Farm to School programs are one solution to incorporating healthier foods into school meals.

Nixon Solar Powered ‘Volta’
Posted in fashion, solar by thuy | Tags: nixon, solar-powered, volta, watchThere have been a few solar powered watches but Nixon recently launched its first. Nixon has released ‘Volta’ the first rechargeable solar powered watch.
This solar powered watch sports a semi-transparent dial that allows sunlight through to the solar panel below which charges the watch’s battery. If you are stuck in an office or if you stay indoors most of the time, the watch still works. In fact, any light source is enough to charge this watch, even the florescent lights in your office will suffice.

Join The Coastal Cleanup..Even Chris Brown Is Doin’ It
Posted in environment, events, los angeles, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: chris brown, coastal cleanup dayOk, well he’s not doing it by choice, but I couldn’t resist.
I almost forgot about the big annual coastal cleanup happening this Saturday from 9a-12p. There are several locations at different beaches, lakes and parks in southern California. Go to the Heal the Bay site to find a location near you.
Don’t worry, you won’t have to don an orange vest.

Maria Menunous in Coco Eco Magazine #7
Posted in auto/transportation, beauty, celeb, fashion, los angeles, shopping, solar by thuy | Tags: cocoecomag, maria menounos, Marrakesh House, teslaHere is the long awaited Maria Menounos story I styled for Coco Eco Magazine. There were so many good things about this shoot. Maria was an absolute sweetheart to work with and all of the amazing eco-lines we used fit her like a glove (a stylists dream). We shot in the beautiful, solar powered Marrakesh House and had an electric powered, bright orange Tesla delivered specifically for the shoot.
Happy 1st Anniversary Coco Eco mag!
Check out Cocoecomag.com for the rest of the shots and the inside scoop on TV’s green “it” girl.

Korean Bibimbop Is The Bomb!
Posted in celeb, food/drink, veggie love, video/media by thuy | Tags: Bibimbop, goop, gwyneth paltrow, korean, vegetarianHere’s Gwenny giving a 7 minute video on how to cook this deliciousness without having to venture out to K-town.
Bibimbop literally means “mixed rice” or “mixed meal” in Korean. It’s a popular meal consisting of a bowl of steamed white rice topped with vegetables, a whole egg, and kochujang (Korean chili pepper paste).
Seems simple enough. I think I’ll give it a try but if I don’t succeed, I’ll have a nice big bowl of rice with kimchee and practice my julienne skillz.

Broccoli City Brings The Ladies
Posted in events, girls we heart, los angeles, veggie love by thuyThanks to Broccoli City for having us all at the Standard last week. We ended up missing our fellow greenies (YDT, Apple Levy & Green LA Girl) but got a chance to meet the ladies from Fashionable Earth & Green Drinks LA. The Veev was flowing, new friends were made and feet were shuffling on the dance floor.
Thanks again BC team. See you out and about on the mean green streets of El Lay.

Take Your Pre-2009 Sigg Bottles Back To Whole Foods NOW!!
Posted in food/drink, health, news, wtf by thuy | Tags: bpa, siggWell ain’t this a bitch? We’ve touted and praised our beloved BPA-free Siggs several times on our blog, only to get hit below the skirt with the sad news that Sigg has indeed had BPA in their lining all along!
In a letter from the CEO, Steve Wasik, dated Sept. 1st, the company verified that the rumors that bottles manufactured prior to August of 2008 do in fact have liners containing bisphenol A – a chemical that may adversely affect human health.
Jen and I have spent a pretty penny on our Siggs. At $20+ for one container, we thought it was well worth the investment for our health and for the environment. We’ve given them out as gifts to several friends and have suggested them over any other brand over and over. Hell, we even mentioned them in a holiday gift list for Dame Magazine. FML!!
See links below for more on the big fib. For now, please note that Sigg is offering to replace your tainted bottle with a new one by sending it in to their headquarters. But eff that! That means you pay for shipping. It’s not stated on their website, but you can also take your Sigg back to any Whole Foods. Hurry up because it ends at the end of this month. No receipt necessary. Just walk on up to the customer service counter, tell them you got juked and would like to exchange yours for a new one.
Below is an example of the different linings. The bottom two with the bronze color lining are the older ones (with BPA.) The top two with the light greenish lining are the newer ones (w/out BPA.) If any of yours match the coloring of the bottom bottles, hightail it to your nearest Whole Foods immediately.
I’m guilty of being a Sigg whore. And I want to thank them for giving it to me in the back door with no lube. Now I gotta go down to the free clinic on Monday and make sure I don’t have BPA cooties. Damn you Sigg and damn your Keith Haring series that you got me hooked on like crack!

Stay Organic, Stay Fly Tonight At The Standard.
Posted in Uncategorized, events by thuyBroccoli City was started by a few young guys who were largely influenced by the urban community. With the growth of the BC Company, and the different experiences of each founder, they found a need in the urban community to be more conscientious of the “Earth”. They have stated that while they are not radical preaching tree-huggers, they understand the importance of our environment, and want to close the gap in the urban community. The BC motto is that “most people live on this earth, but Broccoli City lives in it”.

And I Thought Paris Hilton Was Bad
Posted in animal rights, art, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags: poodle artThis is poodle art and apparently it’ all the craze. Contestants have two hours to pimp primp their dogs out with child safe hair coloring, shears and accessories. According to all the owners, dogs love humiliation attention and don’t mind the prep time or what it takes to be turned into these AMAZING pieces of living art. It’s amazing to me that their dogs tell them so.
Ok, I’m not gonna call this cruelty, but I am gonna call it CA-RAY-ZY. As in the owners of these dogs gotta be bat-shit crazy. You know the type: moms that put their five year olds in pageants to endure fake hair, fake tans, fake nails, Tammy Faye Baker make-up, bedazzled Club Cheeta-approved outfits and endless hours of rehearsing bump-n-grind dances while batoning and never breaking a smile.
