Because Finding A Trash Can Is So Hard

This past weekend I participated in Coastal Cleanup Day, but instead of the beach, I opted to go to the Culver City Creek. Once I did a mapquest, it was either 60 miles roundtrip to Zuma or 12 miles RT to Culver City and with gas prices nowadays….

When I first arrived along the walkway, I didn’t see any trash whatsoever. I kept my eyes peeled for cigarette butts, plastic bottle caps, jack in the crack soft drink cups- nada. I finally looked over the embankment- BINGO.

During my clean up I saw a lot of styrofoam, plastic food coverings, bottle tops, plastic bags, cigarette butts, etc., the usual suspects of litter. The not so usual were window blinds, a broken plastic trash can, part of a bicycle, fishing rods, kids plastic toys and so on.

Unless your throwaway item happens to be dripping in shit, puke or maggots, you should be holding on to it until you find a trash can or get home. Littering is lame and recycling is key.
