Lady Gaga Dons Kermit To Denounce Fur
Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, music, wtf by thuy | Tags: Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, kermit the frog, lady gagaNever one to shy away from being outrageous, Lady Gaga wore this get up during an interview on a German TV show.
Inevitably, the interview took a turn towards Lady Gaga’s unconventional fashion choices in recent European interviews, specifically a coat made up completely of plush Kermit the Frog puppets.
“The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces,” said Gaga. “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing at the house because it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”
Umm..is it just me or does she kinda resemble Janice?

Leila Hafzi
Posted in fair trade, fashion by thuy | Tags: AZO free dyes, herbal ayurvedic dyes, leila hafziLeila Hafzi presented her first collection in Stavenger, Norway, in 1997. With this, she introduced the idea of organic- and ethical trade to the high end fashion industry. During the past ten years, the designer has built a network which represents the very best Nepal has to offer in tailoring and fabrics. Since then, her goal has remained unchanged: to introduce and represent eco-and ethical trade in the fashion industry on a global basis, and in the future to develop an entirely environmental friendly production style.
I’ve used Leila’s dresses in several shoots and they’re stunning. The vibrant bright colors are created with AZO free dyes and the paler colors with herbal Ayurvedic dyes. Each piece is handmade and utilizes fair trade practices.
Definitely a dress to wear down the green carpet.

Nike Reuse A Shoe
Posted in fashion, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: basketball, grind, nike, nike reuse a shoe, playgrounds, recycled, running shoesThe Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program collects worn-out athletic shoes of all brands at Nike stores and other locations worldwide.
The shoes are recycled into Nike Grind, a material used to help build sports surfaces and playgrounds. Nike is also working to incorporate more Nike Grind and other environmentally preferred materials into consumer products like shoes and apparel.
Learn more at Nike Reuse A Shoe
Since 1990, they’ve collected more than 21 million pairs of athletic shoes and countless pounds of manufacturing scrap, giving new life to what is viewed as trash.
It’s all part of Nike’s journey toward a closed-loop business -– where waste at different stages of their operations, from their contract factories to transportation and eventually the product at the end of its life — can be recycled into new Nike products. Breakin’ It Down: Soy Fabric
Posted in breakin' it down, fashion by thuy | Tags: soy, soy fabric, soybean, tofuSoy fabric is luxuriously soft and comfortable, often likened to silk or cashmere. Besides being softer than cotton, soy fabric is more durable and long-lasting (and it keeps getting softer the more times you wash it). It dries quicker than cotton and is extremely easy to care for.
Soy fabric is eco-friendly and sustainable because of the way it is made. Soy fabric is manufactured from the by-products of soy food products, like tofu and soybean oil. Since the process uses materials that would otherwise be waste, it is considered to “close the loop” on soy.

Gucci HOME T-shirt/Bag
Posted in charitable causes, environment, fashion, shopping by thuy | Tags: documentary, gucci, home, tshirtGucci recently announced their support for HOME, the unique cinematic environmental film directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, produced by Luc Besson and funded by Gucci parent company the PPR group.
In honor of the film, Gucci creative director Frida Giannini has designed a special, limited edition t-shirt, which will be sold in select Gucci stores worldwide and on Gucci.com. extending the message of sustainability, Giannini designed the t-shirt using 100% organic cotton and natural dyes in recyclable packaging.
The design features the official HOME logo in which Giannini has integrated the iconic Gucci “GG” symbol, while the back includes the names of each country featured in the film. A white canvas bag with the HOME logo in gold accompanies the t-shirt. on sale from may 25 the t-shirt will be available in both men’s and women’s sizes, with all profits donated to goodplanet.org, a non-profit association created by Yann Arthus-Bertrand in 2005.
The set can be found at select Gucci stores for $195. Unfortunately that’s not a typo. It’s Gucci so of course we couldn’t expect it for anything less.

HOME is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Betrand (photographer of “Earth from Above” book.). The film is entirely composed of aerial shots of various places around Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet.
The movie was released simultaneously on June 5th (World Environmental Day) in cinemas all over the world, on DVD, TV and on YouTube. Released on the same date in 50 countries is a world record for any film release in history. The film is 100% free, and no profits will be made from its release or future showings.
Making this movie was an unusual risk for its financial backer, one of the planet’s biggest retailing conglomerates, France’s PPR SA. PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid 10 million euros ($20.55 million) of the 12 million euro production budget to create HOME.
Laurent Claquin, senior vice-president of corporate social and environmental responsibility at PPR, said the company took a chance on the film.
“It’s true we’re putting ourselves at risk in a way,” said “We’re not perfect yet. We’re never going to be perfect. But we have a duty to act.”
In May, PPR Chief Executive Francois-Henri Pinaulttold a press conference: “This film commits us not to consume less, but to consume differently.”
The film is narrated in English by Glenn Close, in Spanish by Salma Hayek – also Pinault’s wife – and in 15 other languages.

Louis Vuitton: Your Wish Is Their Command
Posted in Logistics, fashion, shopping, solar, tech/gadgets by thuy | Tags: Louis Vuitton, solarLouis Vuitton is happy to create almost any custom piece, if you’ve got the cash. Last year Karl Lagerfield bought a custom LV trunk to hold his 20 iPods. And now a Chinese gentleman has commissioned something a little more grandiose, and just a little more strange.
The client “wanted to be able to watch television and offer coffee to his friends wherever he traveled in the world, including the remotest desert,” Louis Vuitton’s Patrick-Louis Vuitton recounts. “We agreed to put two solar panels linked to a battery for the flat-screen TV and DVD player, two-way radio, tuner and coffee machine.”
The one-of-a-kind trunk, which is covered in the label’s iconic Damier canvas, took a year to complete and costs tens of thousands of dollars.
One person who probably won’t line up for an exclusive LV trunk is the brand’s creative director, Marc Jacobs. He commented at the recent Met Costume Institute Gala that he doubts trunks will ever make a comeback.
“I don’t think there’s anything practical about traveling with a trunk,” he said. “Luxury travel is traveling with a toothbrush. That’s it, end of story. The people who really live luxurious lives don’t need to pack. They’ve got stuff wherever they go.”
I can’t knock anything with a solar cause but I’m totally laughing at the image of homeboy on a deserted island with this trunk. Seriously?

Pink Thinks Ye Is An Idiot
Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, girls we heart, wtf by thuySinger-PETA activist Pink is fiery and disgusted about sitting next to Kanye West and hearing him whine about the absence of fur during a Stella McCartney fashion show..
Pink told Australia’s FHM, “Kanye West is the person pissing me off right now. I was at Stella McCartney’s fashion show with the vice president of PETA, Paul McCartney and Kanye.”
“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”
FUCKING DUH YEEZY! SOUNDS LIKE A CERTAIN FASHION INTERN NEEDS TO DO SOME MORE STUDYING!! HOW COULD THE SELF-PROCLAIMED LOUIS VUITTON DON NOT KNOW THAT STELLA MCCARTNEY, PINK, PAUL AND THE HEAD HONCHO OF PETA HATES FUR!?!?
Damn, I hope your eyes are ok. Needed to give Martin Louie King Jr. a taste of his own medicine. If anything, I think I’ve only made myself nauseous typing with the caps-lock on.

Check Your Foot Work
Posted in fashion, health by thuy | Tags: biodegradable, eco friendly, jason markk, jason markk premium sneaker cleaner, kicks, sneakersI once laughed at one of my guy friends when he got hella mad at a girl for scuffing his pearly white Air Force 1′s with her stilettos. Big mistake. Ladies, watch where you’re walking while drunk because homies don’t play that!
Now all you sneaker heads can clean the tramp off your shoes while being eco-friendly by using the freshness known as the Jason Markk Premium Sneaker Cleaner.
Read what Jason Markk said when asked on Sneaker Files how much research and development went into the production of his special concoction.
With my team of chemists, we set out to engineer a cleaning solution with the sneaker enthusiast in mind. Meaning, we took into consideration several factors that were important to that of a sneaker enthusiast. Factors such as types of common stains, application on various materials, various types of soil conditions, yellowing, etc., but most important was making the solution effective and safe to use. We went round after round after round of R&D and finally created a precise formula that is 98.3% natural, does not contain any harsh abrasives or chemicals, is completely biodegradable, is safe to use on all colors and materials, and is super effective.
JM and his little team of chemists just won major granola brownie points in my book.
I wonder if it will get the Long Island Ice Tea off my vintage heels that the Affliction shirt tool spilled on them last night? I’m sure anything that comes in a box with Koi fish on it is going to work wonders.

Posted in fashion, film/tv/print by thuy | Tags: cocoecomag.com, fair trade, leila hafzi, ten thousand villages, the andean collectionWhile some of you were getting drunk off mimosas and filling your faces with Peeps on Easter, I was kicking up dust in the desert while shooting another stunning spread for Coco Eco magazine.
We used dresses from Leila Hafzi and fair-trade jewelry from Ten Thousand Villages and The Andean Collection. The bright, bold colors used against the backdrop were gorgeous and I can’t wait for the May/June issue to come out.
Thanks to our amazing team for everyone’s hard work and positive energy throughout the day. And many thanks to Anna Griffin for allowing us all to create our vision through hers.
Of course I’ll be letting you know when the issue drops, but for now, here’s a peek. Check out the last issue to see our previous shoot with Josie Maran.
Shot out to the random ice cream truck for plowing through the dry lake bed and wetting our taste buds with frozen treats.

Topshop Targets Breast Cancer
Posted in Uncategorized, charitable causes, fashion by jen | Tags: breast cancer, target, topshopTopshop has launched a limited edition T-shirt, modeled by Jourdan Dunn, in support of the charity initiative Fashion Targets Breast Cancer in 2009. The T-shirt will be available in-store and online and will retail for $44, with 30% of the proceeds going to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
“Fashion Targets Breast Cancer is the flagship fashion campaign of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research, campaigning and education. Since the campaign launched in the UK in 1996 it has raised over £9 million for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s vital work.” (Via Nitrolicious)

DIY: Lika Volkova
Posted in fashion by thuy | Tags: eco friendly, fashion, lika volkova, patternsLika Volkova, the designer behind SANS clothing line says there is no such thing as an eco-friendly clothing line. Fashion, no matter what it’s made out of or where it comes from, makes waste. Factories produce pollution as does the transportation it takes to get the clothing to the stores.
In response to their concerns about over-production, SANS deviced a bold refreshing strategy. Instead of making pieces of clothing, producing, distributing and selling it, they now sell downloadable patterns on their website. Prices range from $6-$20, which, Volkova says, is no less than what a designer can expect to make on a conventional piece of clothing. The patterns are digital and can be printed out on a conventional printer.
For the not-so-crafty, she recommends taking the pattern to a local tailor to have it made. Regardless, the result is a locally-made-to-fit garment that the owner will inevitably be emotionally attached to — and less likely to throw away — after being involved in the entire process of creating it. In Volkova’s words “When you have a piece that you made yourself, you relate to it differently. You value it differently.”
These aren’t your typical McCall patterns. I think it’s time to bust out my sewing machine.
Thanks Alex!

Richie Rich’s Muse
Posted in celeb, fashion, veggie love by jen | Tags: heatherette, muse, peta, richie richRichie Rich, one half of crazy design duo, Heatherette, is teaming up with buxom babe and PETA spokesperson, Pamela Anderson to collaborate on a vegan line, called Muse.
The Muse line will consist mostly of T-shirts and bathing suits and will launch this summer. The line will contain no fur or leather, which according to Rich, will be a challenge.
Given Anderson’s and Rich’s penchant for outrageous outfits and skimpy clothes, I’m interested to see how this conscious line will turn out.

Propr
Posted in events, fashion, organic by thuy | Tags: ben harper, david arquette, eco friendly, fashion, hollywood, my house, proprIt’s nice to see that even despite these times we’re in, people are still moving forward and dropping eco-friendly lines. But these aren’t just any ol’ people. Nope, it’s David Arquette, Ben Harper and David Bedwell (former Penguin vice president,) debuting their new line, Propr, their mostly organic new line for women and men.
I saw two dresses I would rock so that’s a good thing.
Here’s an invite for a viewing of the spring collection, this Friday night at My House. Enjoy!

All Hail The Queen… Of Punk
Posted in fashion, shopping by thuy | Tags: buy less, buy nothing, vivienne westwoodWords of wisdom from one of our fave designers, Vivienne Westwood.
If you ask me what I think people should be getting next season. I’ll tell you what I’d like them to buy—nothing. I’d like people to stop buying and buying and buying…There’s this idea that somehow you’ve got to keep changing things, and as often as possible. Maybe if people just decided not to buy anything for a while, they’d get a chance to think about what they wanted; what they really liked.
AMEN!
