Billionaire Tamir Sapir Busted With Dead Exotic Animals
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, in the wild, news by thuy | Tags: exotic animals, hunting, tamir sapirA Florida federal judge has fined the owner of a luxury yacht $150,000 for decorating the big boat with allegedly smuggled exotic animal pelts, officials say.
The court also took away the pelts after the registered owner of the $26 million-dollar yacht, Ruzial Ltd., based in the Cayman Islands, pleaded guilty to violating the Endangered Species Act.
Federal court documents show Ruzial’s director is Tamir Sapir, a Russian billionaire and collector of European ivory, The Miami Herald said.
Federal agents, in a routine check of the yacht at at its Port Everglades berth, found the remains of such rarities as zebra, African lion, elephant (hide and tusks), python, jaguar and more.
The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge William Dimitrouleas this week marked the end of a 17-month-long U.S. investigation, officials said.
Hopefully one day my Indecent Proposal moment will come and when it does, I pray that my real life version of Robert Redford does not have disgusting taste in decor on his yacht like Sapir. If I came on board and saw a stuffed animal head on a mantel, I’d have to forego my million dollar deal and jump in a dingy and paddle my ass far, far away.
They should have made him pay Lorena Bobbit the $150,000 to do what she does best and show thus asshole what time it is.

Meat Was Murder For Moz At Coachella
Posted in animal cruelty, boys we heart, celeb, events, food/drink, music by thuy | Tags: animal cruelty, coachella, meat, meat is murder, morrissey, moz, mozzersThe video clip above is of Morrissey walking off the stage during his set at Coachella because the smell of cooking meat offended him.
Morrissey gave his quote of the year at Coachella just before he walked off the stage during his song “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others”: “I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it’s human,” he said, smelling the barbeque sold by festival vendors.
To his credit, Moz did return to the stage and continue his set, giving the explanation that “the smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn’t bear it.”
Morrissey usually has a strict ban on meat products at his gigs, but at festivals, anything goes.
Homie is SERIOUS about his hatred for meat. I don’t blame him. The smell of seafood makes me want to puke through my nostrils.
In other news, he was set to play the next night in my old stomping grounds of San Francisco. He cancelled his show only to be seen later chilling at the DNA Lounge. Oh that Mozzers, always so dramatic. We wouldn’t have it any other way. But I would have been PISSED as hell if I was supposed to be attending that show and he cancelled!

Half Baked Idiot Traps Kitten In Bong To Calm It Down
Posted in animal cruelty, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags: animal cruelty, bong, kittenHere’s how Lancaster County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bill Jarrett described what happened. Jarrett said it started when deputies were called to a home on a disturbance Sunday night.
When deputies arrived Jarrett said they talked with the owner of the home and his grandson, Acea Schomaker. Jarrett said Schomaker had a drug warrant for his arrest and when deputies went to his bedroom to arrest him they found him smoking marijuana through a homemade bong.
As they were arresting him Jarrett said the bong moved on its own. One of the deputies opened the 12 inch by 6 inch container and found a one year old kitten trapped inside. Jarrett said Schomaker told deputies the cat was out of control and he wanted to calm him down. Schomaker was arrested for the warrant, possession of marijuana and animal neglect/abuse. The bong is made of Plexiglas and is about the size of shoebox.
“[It was] taped shut so the cat was exposed to large amounts of marijuana smoke,” Jarrett said.
Bob Downey with the Capital Humane Society said they’re checking the kitten for lung damage. He said the kitten appears to be a little raspy, “but (it’s) certainly a treatable condition and it won’t prevent us from being able to find a new home for the cat once it becomes our property.”
Below is a picture of the douchebag and the 6 month old kitten.

Pet Chimp Killed After Attack
Posted in animal cruelty, news, pets by thuy | Tags: attack, killed, pet chimpA 200-pound chimpanzee kept as a pet and once used in commercials was shot and killed by police after it mauled a woman visiting its owner and later cornered an officer in his cruiser, authorities said. Stamford police Lt. Richard Conklin said the injured woman was hospitalized late Monday in “very serious” condition at Stamford Hospital.
The 15-year-old chimpanzee’s owner and two officers also were hurt. Police said they had no idea why the chimpanzee, named Travis, attacked the woman as she got out of her car to visit the animal’s owner, Sandra Herold. Conklin said Herold wrestled with the animal, then ran inside to call 911.
“She retrieved a large butcher knife and stabbed her longtime pet numerous times in an effort to save her friend, who was really being brutally attacked,” Conklin said.
When will people learn that wild animals cannot be domesticated? It’s like Chris Rock said when one of Siegfried and Roy’s tiger mauled Roy. ‘Everybody’s mad at the tiger. “That tiger went crazy!” That tiger didn’t go crazy…that tiger went TIGER.’

Catfight!!! Sarah Palin Vs. At Ashley Judd
Posted in animal cruelty, celeb, politickin' by thuy | Tags: ashley judd, defenders of wildlife, fur, hag, sarah palin, wolf huntingSarah Palin struck back at Ashley Judd’s featured role in an ad campaign accusing the Alaska governor of supporting the aerial slaughter of wolves and bears.
Palin released a statement calling the ad “reprehensible and hypocritical.”
“The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.
“Shame on the Defenders of Wildlife for twisting the truth in an effort to raise funds from innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times,” wrote Palin, reports Politico.

“Giorgio Armani broke his public promise to stop using fur – his latest collections include fur-trimmed skirts and coats as well as jackets and even snowsuits for toddlers trimmed with rabbit fur.
He gets his fur from China, where animals – who are protected by no laws there – are often skinned alive.

Ashley Judd Against Aerial Hunting And Palin
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, celeb by thuy | Tags: aerial hunting, ashley judd, defenders of wildlide action fund, sarah palinDefenders of Wildlife Action Fund launched a national campaign to expose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s renewed anti-conservation agenda. The Action Fund first highlighted Palin’s record in Alaska during last fall’s presidential campaign when it ran TV ads across battleground states, highlighting Palin’s championing of the brutal and unnecessary aerial killing of wolves and other carnivores.
Defenders Action Fund’s campaign to expose Gov. Palin’s anti-wildlife agenda has attracted the support of actress and activist, Ashley Judd, who narrates the new video on www.eyeonpalin.org.
In a statement announcing the launch of the anti-Palin campaign, Judd says she is “outraged by Sarah Palin’s promotion of this cruel, unscientific and senseless practice which has no place in modern America.”
“Because she is apparently determined to continue and expand this horrific program, I am grateful that Defenders will aggressively fight to stop her. I am proud to be a part of that effort,” Judd says.

The former Baywatch star and longtime animal advocate gave her voice for this video “Kentucky Fried Cruelty,” an undercover exposé blowing the whistle on the cruel treatment of animals at KFC’s factory farm and slaughterhouse suppliers. The video details just how horribly KFC treats chickens. Birds are so crippled that they can’t even walk, live birds are forced into tanks of scalding-hot water while completely conscious and able to feel pain, and Moorefield, W.Va., slaughterhouse workers kill birds by slamming them against the wall and stomping on them.

Peta Offering 10 G’s To Maker Of Vegetarian Foie Gras
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink by thuy | Tags: foie gras, force fed, peta, vegetarianPeta is putting the word out with an offer of $10,000 for any chef that can make a vegetarian version of foie gras. I’ve never been a pâté type of gal, so this doesn’t even sound appetizing, but hey, anything to avoid animals being force-fed for their not so appetizing enlarged livers is good by me.
Foie gras (pronounced ‘fwah grah’) has been exalted in some gourmet food circles as a prized delicacy, but if most people knew how foie gras is produced, they would be horrified.
Foie gras, the French term for “fatty liver,” is the product of extreme animal cruelty. It is the swollen, diseased liver of ducks and geese who are force-fed just up until the point of death before being slaughtered. Birds suffer tremendously, both during and after the force-feeding process, as their physical condition rapidly deteriorates. In just a few weeks, their livers swell up to ten times their normal size, and the birds can scarcely stand, walk, or even breathe. At this point, they are slaughtered, and their livers are peddled as a “gourmet” delicacy.
Gourmet delicacy my ass! That shit is straight up Janet if you NASTY!

Shepard Fairey To Obama: ADOPT!!
Posted in Peeps We Rep, animal cruelty, animal rights, art, eye candy, film/tv/print, pets by thuy | Tags: adopt, george orwell, mutts like me, obama, shepard faireyI was doing my daily blog run and stopped dead in my screen tracks when I came across this post on my girl Pauline’s blog on Vimby. It’s a poster done by Shep from Obey, for the book “Animal Farm” by Norman Orwell. I don’t know what rock I was under in my teenage years but I never read this book. Now, after reading a summary on it and learning that the characters are pigs, that overtake a farm from their mean owner, I’m running out to Barnes and Nobles and getting myself a copy asap!
Hold up… as I went to the Obey site to link this story to them I almost shit veggie rocks when I saw this recent work of his. FUCK YES!!! ADOPT!!!
We’ve done a few posts on our hopes that Obama picks a shelter dog for his girls. Buying a pet from a pet store or breeder sucks when there are millions of lovable, abandoned animals available in pounds.
Taken from the Obey site, in Fairey’s words:
A MUTT LIKE ME
The day Obama stated his interest in adopting a dog from the shelter was a slightly brighter one for the approximately 7 million adoptable dogs & cats killed each year in this country. The staggering reality is that for each one sold at a pet store or by a breeder, another perfectly worthy one is killed. Our nations shelters are filled to capacity with all kinds of amazing adoptable animals including, as Obama put it, “Mutts like me.”
On the heels of Obama’s comment, I got a call from Pia Salk, an animal advocate who works with North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com. Pia simply asked if I might be willing to collaborate on a way to have my art help these animals.
As most of you know, I’m a big believer in speaking up for all who suffer injustice, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or in this case, species! And I’m all for adopting from the shelter. My wife and I share our home with 2 pooches, George and Weezie, who is a rescue. They are the happy canine siblings to our 2 human daughters.
The image I created for this print reminds me of a dog I had as kid, a mutt named Honey.
We have created a limited edition run of 400 signed and numbered silk-screen prints that will be available at: www.muttslikeme.com. The January sale date will be announced soon and proceeds will go to getting the furry non-partisan U.S. residents, who share our country, saved and into homes through:www.Adoptapet.com
Check out the site and search for adoptable animals in your area or other ways to help.

Longstanding pet store, Pet Love, in the Beverly Center is closing their doors after 15 years in business amidst accusations of puppy mill practices.
National animal rescue organization, Best Friends Animal Society, staged an anti-puppy mill campaign at the mall with table and fliers and petitions for “A Puppy-Store-Free-L.A”, which led to the mall not renewing Pet Love’s lease.

Her apology to PETA in part reads-
“It was a daylong photo shoot on a boat near Capri, and there were all sorts of poses with all kinds of clothes – none with fur,” she added. “During one set-up, a stylist came up from behind and draped a stole around my shoulder.
She continued: “I didn’t pay much attention to it, and when I noticed it was fur, I assumed it was fake fur, but did not ask, so it’s my fault. I was very surprised when they ended up using that one shot out of hundreds for the centerpiece of the Tod’s ads.

She also stated that she doesn’t wear fur at all and she and her family mostly eat a vegetarian diet.

Another Undercover Video Of Turkey Abuse
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink, health, news by thuyThis will be my first Thanksgiving sans turkey. Thinking about it, I’ve been kinda feeling sorry for myself. Envisioning my plate consisting of just the fixings, I thought, it’s not going to be the same without it. And to all my veggie friends, yes, I know about Tofurky, but ya’ll know I’m still not big on the whole fake meat thing just yet.
After watching this video I busted in on my own pity party and was reminded once again, exactly why I gave up meat in the beginning of the year.
LEWISBURG, W.Va. (AP) _ Global poultry grower Aviagen Inc. said Wednesday it has suspended a supervisor and would investigate a video released by an animal rights group that appears to show horrific abuse of turkeys at the company’s West Virginia farms.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the video, which includes workers stomping on turkeys’ heads and twisting their necks to kill them, was shot by an undercover investigator who worked on the companies’ farms for more than two months.
Some wannabe smart lady of the National Turkey Federation in Washington, D.C., questioned the timing of PETA’s sting, saying that the turkey industry takes pride in the health and well being of its flocks and this was an isolated event. She said some other stuff but I’m too annoyed to type it all out. Just watch the video.
I want to ask Mrs. Fur-Trim Wearing Smartypants if she’s personally been to ALL of the thousands of farms across the U.S. on a daily basis to confirm her statement. Farm abuse happens all the time and there is no way to regulate it. I don’t care when or how the hell this video was shot. It shows us, the consumers, the truth. Thank you Peta! And back to her isolated comment, does that include the previous account of the Butterball factory farm getting busted for animal abuse too? Isolated my ass.
By all means, enjoy your turkey this year but please at least look into getting an organic, free-range turkey with no antibiotics, hormones or preservatives. You can pre-order them at Whole Foods.
Oh yea, duh *warning* the video has graphic content. You can thank the fine, educated, compassionate, hard working employees of the AVIAGEN farm for that.

That’s Not Booger Sugar
Posted in animal cruelty, celeb, fashion by thuy | Tags: fur, lindsay lohan, petaLindsay Lohan got showered with some powdered love, but not the kind of powder she likes, unfortunately for her. A Peta crazer unleashed a bag of flour on the fur wearing LL last night in Paris. Go here to watch the video.
I don’t condone this kind of behavior but I find it hard to feel any sympathy for her LL. Should stop faking the funk. Remember when she was rocking the PETA NO FUR pin? Or how about the time she stole a fur jacket from a girl at a party and was later photographed in it? Dumbass.

Hallelujah For The Farm Animals
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, environment, food/drink, health, politickin' by thuy | Tags: animal rights, factory farm animals, yes prop 2It won’t exactly be like the picture above, but hopefully it will be better than those below.
We made our voices heard for the ones that do not have one. It’s simply wrong to confine veal calves, breeding pigs, and egg-laying hens in tiny cages barely larger than their bodies. Calves are tethered by the neck and can barely move, pigs in severe confinement bite the metal bars of their crates, and hens get trapped and even impaled in their wire cages. We wouldn’t force our pets to live in filthy, cramped cages for their whole lives, and we shouldn’t force farm animals to endure such misery. All animals, including those raised for food, deserve humane treatment.
This was needed for the animals and ourselves. Factory farms put our health at risk—cramming tens of thousands of animals into tiny cages, fostering the spread of diseases that may affect people. YES! on Prop 2 is better for animals—and for us.
The American Public Health Association called for a moratorium on new factory farms because of the devastating effects these operations can have on surrounding communities, spreading untreated waste on the ground and contaminating our waterways, lakes, groundwater, soil, and air. Prop 2 helps stop some of the worst abuses and protects our precious natural resources. That’s why California Clean Water Action and Sierra Club-California supported YES! on Prop 2.

Please Vote YES On Prop 2
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink, health, politickin' by thuy | Tags: prop 2What it would do: Require farmers to pen egg-laying hens, veal and pregnant pigs in ways that allow the animals to lie down, stand up, fully extend their limbs and turn around freely. Exceptions are made for the transportation of these animals, rodeos, fairs, 4-H programs, lawful slaughter, research and veterinary purposes.
What it would cost: The state legislative analyst’s office concluded that there is a potential that state and local tax revenue from farm businesses could decrease, possibly in the range of several million dollars a year. There is also a potential minor cost to enforce the law, which would partly be offset by increased fine revenue.
Who’s for it: U.S. Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein; Assembly members Loni Hancock (Berkeley) and Mark Leno (San Francisco); the city councils of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley and Davis; the Humane Society of the United States; Oakland Animal Services.

Meet Your Meat. Vote YES On Prop 2!!!
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink, health, politickin' by thuy | Tags: animal abuse, prop 2Please watch this video to understand why Prop 2 is so important. We don’t care if you choose to eat meat, but we do care about the stress and disease we all put into our bodies and the way the animals are treated before they make it to our plates.
Vote YES on Prop 2 on November 4th.

Mary-Kate Olsen Is A Repeat Offender
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, celeb by jen | Tags: fur, mary-kate olsenLooks like Mary Kate Olsen’s got no shame to her game. Despite PETA‘s repeated requests for her to give up her fur habit, it looks like this is one addiction she can’t quit.
It might be time for a fur intervention, perhaps another stint in rehab for a bad case of fur-itis.

My Mom Is The Illest
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink, reduce/reuse/recycle, reusable by thuyEvery time my mom rolls into town from the Bay, it’s mandatory that we head out to Chinatown to spend a day shopping and eating. I was happy to see her sporting the reusable Whole Foods bag I gave her on her last trip out here. Asians love them some plastic bags so I’m proud that she’s at least attempting to take small baby steps and reduce her use of petroleum based bags.
The flicks below were shot around Chinatown.
Red ear slider turtles being sold at a kiosk along side kung fu slippers and bamboo plants.
Ducks and a pig hanging from a restaurant window. It was hella hot outside and even hotter inside. I couldn’t help but to think of all the bacteria that was growing on the flesh of someone’s future dinner.
My favorite was of homeboy rocking his recycling contraption as if he were on a rice paddy in Vietnam. My least favorite pix: see post below.

Black Market Los Angeles
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink by thuy | Tags: Add new tag, animal abuse, chinatown, turtlesAfter a long day of shopping in chinatown, my mom wanted to stop at a market to pick up some rice before we headed home. It was the typical shopping experience I have every time we go to any asian grocery store.. weird looking foods, funny smells, words I can’t read on packaging, and side eye stares thrown at me from the elders that translate into, “what are you doing in here whitey?” It’s definitely not your average Trade Joe’s run.
When we got to the fresh seafood section in the back of the store, I tried to hurry past the sickening sight and smell of the dead fish behind the glass counter. I HATE seafood. (I know, I’m a dysfunctional 1/2 asian.) I scurried past it all quickly, only to be stopped dead in my tracks by the sight above.
Turtles piled high on top of each other in cages without any room to move, food or water. What are turtles doing in an asian market? They’re on sale for turtle soup. Yep, you get to choose from neglected & confined small size turtles or stressed & battered large size ones. Oh and you also get your choice of hard shell or soft shell. The most f*cked up part was when I noticed a turtle with his shell cracked and bleeding.
A delicacy to some but painful and disgusting to me. Proposition 貳- let’s get it started.

Danity Kane Strips For PETA
Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights by thuyReality T.V is my guilty pleasure and “Making the Band” is on my not-to be-missed TIVO lineup. I love choreographer Lori Ann’s crazy eyes (thanks Thuy), Aubrey’s train wreck tranny steez and Diddy’s “no bitchassness” slapdowns!!
Now the girls of Danity Kane are taking their clothes off for a good cause. They have been tapped by PETA for their latest, “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” Campaign. Click here to find out more and for a video of the photo shoot.
