This is poodle art and apparently it’ all the craze. Contestants have two hours to pimp primp their dogs out with child safe hair coloring, shears and accessories. According to all the owners, dogs love humiliation attention and don’t mind the prep time or what it takes to be turned into these AMAZING pieces of living art. It’s amazing to me that their dogs tell them so.

Ok, I’m not gonna call this cruelty, but I am gonna call it CA-RAY-ZY. As in the owners of these dogs gotta be bat-shit crazy. You know the type: moms that put their five year olds in pageants to endure fake hair, fake tans, fake nails, Tammy Faye Baker make-up, bedazzled Club Cheeta-approved outfits and endless hours of rehearsing bump-n-grind dances while batoning and never breaking a smile.

Lady Gaga Dons Kermit To Denounce Fur

Never one to shy away from being outrageous, Lady Gaga wore this get up during an interview on a German TV show.

Inevitably, the interview took a turn towards Lady Gaga’s unconventional fashion choices in recent European interviews, specifically a coat made up completely of plush Kermit the Frog puppets.

“The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces,” said Gaga. “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing at the house because it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”

Heath Ledger X Modest Mouse: For The Whales

King Rat

Before his untimely death, Heath Ledger began directing a video for Modest Mouse’s “King Rat”. Unfortunately he died before the video was completed, and it has been languishing in limbo until now.

The concept of “King Rat” video is based on Ledger’s “vision, brave and unapologetic in its nature [which] marry his love of bold and original music with his impassioned stance against the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place of the coast of Australia each year.” Proceeds from this video’s downloads in its first month of release will go toward Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an international non-profit organization committed to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.

Watch Ledger’s music video, completed by his associates at the Masses, a violently unabashed commentary on illegal whale hunting.

Dear Huffington Post, You’re Doing It Wrong

I go to Huffington Post to get my daily dose of news and to source stories for my own blog in their “green” section. They posted the story about PETA busting Ringling Bros. in an undercover video beating elephants and tigers. HP normally posts about a range of animal issues, but what I didn’t expect to see was a front page ad for a discount on Ringling Bros. tickets.

Photobucket

C’mon Huffpo. I don’t want to be reminded of that video every time I go to your front page to read Buzzfeed. I know, I know, ad dollars, but seriously? Did you all not see what I saw in that 5 minute video below? Bull hooks being brought down repeatedly on those elephants? Looks like animal cruelty to me.

Please do not support the most horrible show on earth!

F*CK RINGLING BROS!

Posted in animal rights, baby/child, events, in the wild, los angeles, video/media, wtf by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Sorry about being out of commission since being back. Busy with work and prepping for my next shoot with Coco Eco Magazine.

I was just sent this link from Perez Hilton. Ringling Bros. had their show (arrived the day of the Michael Jackson Memorial) in LA at the Staples Center- they had a 4 day run beginning on July 9th.

When I heard that a few of my friends were going to the circus that week, my stomach knotted up. I tried explaining to them that the animals (especially the elephants) get beat and it didn’t make a difference. How could it if you only see the glittery show side and not what goes on behind those curtains and what they go through while traveling between cities and in their training sessions?

PETA vice president Daphna Nachminovitch said that their undercover agent “witnessed these elephants being beaten for no apparent reason.”

Ringling Bros. said they could not comment on the video because it had not been viewed yet, but they did say that “PETA is an animal rights extremist group…We are very proud of our animal care, we are committed to the care of all our animals partly through our conservation programs at the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation…We have 139 years of experience of working with Asian elephants.”

If you support Ringling Bitchasses this is what your money is contributing to.

Disgusting.

FUCK YOU RINGLING BASTARDS!

Something In The Blood Ain’t Clean

In Nova Scotia, Canada, there’s a problem with tampon applicators backing up the sewer system and overflowing into the ocean (hello ladies, it’s called a trash can and your brain- use them.)

Recently, a Dutch tampon company Libresse thought it would be a great idea to drop thousands of tampons with little parachutes attached to them out of planes and onto 6 popular Dutch beaches. Why? Well, the manufacturer of Libresse wants the females to put a bloody cork in it (literally) and hit the beaches while Aunt Dot is visiting. Seriously ladies. Why let that pesky little crimson tide between your legs stop you from having fun in the sun?

I just wanna thank the cooter plug maker for adding to our pollution problem. Oh and for contributing to that other thing- when birds and aquatic animals mistake plastics for food, eat them and choke to death..yeah, your marketing scheme was pure genius. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is just a joke right? Well I saw it on Oprah so it must be real!

Went to a herbal store in Chinatown (in LA, it’s more like Vietnam town) with my mom. I was expecting to see some ginseng, cinnamon & ginger. I was not prepared to see this.

Photobucket

Shark fins!!!! At $499 a lb? That’s like 10 fins for 5 bills! I had to ask my mom if that was in US or Vietnamese dollars. She gave me the “Girl are you stupid? We’re in America” side eye.

No wonder why it’s considered a delicacy.

“Finning” refers to the practice of cutting off only the shark fins and discarding the body. Sometimes sharks are dead when they’re pulled into the boats, but often, they’re still alive as their four fins are cut off with a knife. When they’re thrown back into the ocean the sharks either bleed to death, or they drown, because sharks can’t swim without fins, and they need to go forward to get oxygen.

It made me sad to see this. But then I saw something that always puts a smile on my face.

The Cove, which has won honors at many film festivals, including the Audience Award at January’s Sundance Film Festival, chronicles the efforts of Richard O’Barry and the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition to stop the brutal annual slaughter of thousands of dolphins in Japan. The Cove also won the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.

“The dolphin slaughter is scheduled to begin again on September 1st,” notes Richard O’Barry, Director of Save Japan Dolphins. “The world-wide exposure of the dolphin slaughter through The Cove movie is going to put a spot-light on this secret environmental disaster. It can’t happen too soon.”

“We believe The Cove will be a game-changer,” stated David Phillips, Director of Earth Island Institute’s International Marine Mammal Project, a members of the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition. “Japan’s flaunting of international agreements and international norms must end — the killing of dolphins and whales is no longer accepted by civilized society.”

Jessica Alba: Activist FAIL

Posted in animal rights, celeb, in the wild by thuy | Tags: , , , , , , ,

Last month I did a post on these posters that have been mysteriously popping up on walls in various cities. The purpose of the guerilla marketing from White Mike is to raise awareness about the dwindling population of great white sharks.

Until now, the person or persons that started this poster plastering campaign has remained a mystery.

Well guess which celeb got busted for putting the posters up in Oklahoma City, over a United Way (oops! that’s a non-profit) poster no less?

Little Ms. Into the Blue herself. She posted posters for a good cause- documented it on a camera (bad move) got heat from United Way and then issued this statement:

I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”

Way to go by blaming the people behind the campaign Jess. Judging by your big smile and *hands in the air* pics, it doesn’t look like anyone put a gun to your head or forced the glue into your hands. You know all the sharks are saying: “You’re doing it wrong HONEY!”

As for the real people behind White Mike.. I guess any press is good press.

Woman Pays 10K Ransom for Stolen Dog

Posted in animal rights, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags:

Long story short. Woman leaves her ‘chorkie’ dog in car while eating at restaurant. Comes back to car- realizes car window has been smashed and her beloved dog is gone. Posts up $10,000 reward posters. Deals with a bunch of fakes for 2.5 days but finally gets an email of a picture of her dog. Meets up with the evil peeps, pays the ransom and asks no questions. All is good again.

I love my pup Kobe to death and I would definitely pay 10 G’s to get him back. I’d have to rob someone or do the ho stroll on sunset blvd for a few weeks first but of course it would be totally worth it.

Glad for the happy ending. I’ll now add ‘do not leave Kobe in car’ to my ‘do not leave Kobe tied to poles outside of restaurants or stores’ list. Thanks for making our world a better place dog snatchers!

I Hope The Bull’s OK

Posted in animal rights, in the wild by thuy | Tags: , , , , ,

goredbybull

What’s that you say? What about the matador, Israel Lancho that looks like he’s in agonizing pain while being hoisted several feet in the air with a bull’s horn in his chest? Oh that? First, let’s break down bullfighting.

Few Spanish traditions divide opinion as much as bullfighting. For every bull aficionado willing to defend their art there are ten who see it as just cruelty to animals and want it banned – yet still the practice goes on.

Bullfighting is called a sport, or sometimes even an art. It is neither. It is animal cruelty disguised as entertainment. Ever wonder why the bull never wins? Spectators are led to believe the matadors are actually risking their lives. In reality, the bull has already been crippled and subdued in several ways and doesn’t stand a chance against its opponents.

Several hours before the fight, the bull is kept in a stall, deprived of light and water. They are separated from other bulls. This is traumatic for them as bulls are naturally herd animals. Many bullfighters have reported that the bulls are also beaten and injured prior to being released into the ring. Their horns are also sometimes shaved. This involves sawing off a few inches of the horns. Bulls depend on their horns to help them navigate and shaving impairs their ability to do this. Shaving is illegal, but many get away with it.

Bulls are sometimes stabbed and wounded before being released in the ring. After being released, he may be taunted by a group of humans who will frustrate him by forcing him to run in circles and collide.

Men called picadors approach the exhausted bull on horseback. These men drive lances into the bull’s neck and back, resulting in more injuries and blood loss and disabling him from lifting his neck or head. Picadors are usually not injured. Any injuries inflicted by the confused, exhausted bull are usually to the picador’s horse.

The matador appears next and provokes the injured, dying bull in to weak charges. He will attempt to kill the bull with a sword but it usually only results in injuring him and resulting in more pain and blood loss. During the final stage, an executioner is called in to kill the bull by slashing his spinal cord. This is for the benefit of the audiences, and sometimes the effort is not enough to kill the bull. It’s not uncommon for a tortured, paralyzed, conscious bull to be tied by his horns and dragged from the ring.

So back to my thoughts about the matador…¡Olé! MOTHER FUCKER!!! It’s poetic justice- too bad it doesn’t happen more often.

Lancho is in serious condition and is probably going to live, but I’m pretty sure that poor bull was put to sleep immediately after, just for defending himself. These pictures do not draw an ounce of sympathy from me. If anything, it makes me smile. Be still, my cold, black, barely beating heart.

Billionaire Tamir Sapir Busted With Dead Exotic Animals

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, in the wild, news by thuy | Tags: , ,

A Florida federal judge has fined the owner of a luxury yacht $150,000 for decorating the big boat with allegedly smuggled exotic animal pelts, officials say.

The court also took away the pelts after the registered owner of the $26 million-dollar yacht, Ruzial Ltd., based in the Cayman Islands, pleaded guilty to violating the Endangered Species Act.

Federal court documents show Ruzial’s director is Tamir Sapir, a Russian billionaire and collector of European ivory, The Miami Herald said.

Federal agents, in a routine check of the yacht at at its Port Everglades berth, found the remains of such rarities as zebra, African lion, elephant (hide and tusks), python, jaguar and more.

The ruling by U.S. District Court Judge William Dimitrouleas this week marked the end of a 17-month-long U.S. investigation, officials said.

Hopefully one day my Indecent Proposal moment will come and when it does, I pray that my real life version of Robert Redford does not have disgusting taste in decor on his yacht like Sapir. If I came on board and saw a stuffed animal head on a mantel, I’d have to forego my million dollar deal and jump in a dingy and paddle my ass far, far away.

They should have made him pay Lorena Bobbit the $150,000 to do what she does best and show thus asshole what time it is.

Shark Sightings LA

Posted in animal rights, art, in the wild by thuy | Tags: , , , , ,

These posters have been spotted in various parts of LA, ATL and DC. The purpose of them? To raise awareness about the depleting species known as the great white shark. As explained in the White Mike blog:

This blog is a guerrilla movement meant to spark the curiosity and collective humanistic action with regards to saving the dire state of Great White Sharks and their near extinction in our planet.

Sharks, the creatures we fear the most, are struggling for survival in our oceans. They are in desperate need of global conservation and these words, however miniscule they may be, serve the only purpose of revealing the inhumane slaughter of sharks and the Organizations out there to help stop the cruel abuse of Whiteys.

The great white shark was added to the endangered list because its population has dropped due to the unregulated trade and excessive hunting. Globally, there has been a reported decline of between 60-95% in great white shark numbers in the last 50 years.

Shepard Fairey made it work for Obama so why not White Mike for the great white?

I had my first Whitey sighting last night on my way to HWood, on the corner of Hollywood and Orange.

Another Dumb Human Tattoos Their Pet

Posted in animal rights, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Still dazed after being anaesthetised for three hours, a pedigree pet is hauled upright to show off its new tattoo. The controversial “body enhancement” was carried out on Mickey – a rare Canadian Hairless breed also known as a Sphynx cat.

His female owner was said to be delighted with the Tutankhamun design inked on to his chest at a tattoo parlour.

She said: “I wanted something new and different for the times we live in.” But horrified animal rights campaigners slammed the sick fad in Moscow as barbaric – and fear it could catch on among wealthy pet owners in the West.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “We are totally against using animals for purely cosmetic reasons just on the owner’s whim. Clearly the animal has no say in the matter.”

This is horrific not in that a tattoo is so harmful, because animals have been getting tattooed for identification for years (obviously not on an elaborate and ridiculous scale like this tat), but for the reasoning behind it. So it’s a week of itching and pain afterwards for the cat, after a relatively risky procedure. Not a big deal if you look at it from that perspective, but it is a big deal when you consider the fact that it’s bordering on abusive because there is no practical purpose for it. Putting a tattoo on a cat, or any animal for the sole purpose of stroking one’s ego is stupid and wrong

The owner should have bought herself one of Mattel’s “Totally Stylin’ Tattoos” Barbie Doll instead.

I’m nursing a hangover right now and this story just made it worse. My head can’t take this. I need to go hug a kitty.

Pluck An Ingrown Hair Outta That Bush

Posted in animal rights, environment, politickin' by thuy | Tags: , ,

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama urged agency heads Tuesday to ignore a Bush administration regulation limiting scientific reviews of projects that might harm endangered wildlife and plants.

During a visit to the Interior Department, Obama said the review process had been undermined by his predecessor.

“For more than three decades, the Endangered Species Act has successfully protected our nation’s most threatened wildlife. We should be looking for ways to improve it, not weaken it,” Obama said.

A presidential memorandum signed by Obama on Tuesday puts the Bush regulation on hold until the Interior and Commerce departments complete a review.

While on the campaign trail, Obama said he would fight to maintain the protections of the Endangered Species Act and work to undo what was then a proposal by the Bush administration.

Finalized in December over the objections of environmentalists, the Bush rule made optional what had previously been mandatory for 35 years _ the independent consultations federal scientists have performed on projects.

“We can grow our economy today,” Obama said, “and preserve the environment for ourselves and our children and our grandchildren.”

My crush for the big O is turning into an obsession.

Unnatural Art By Don Simon

Posted in animal rights, art, environment by thuy | Tags: , ,

Don Simon uses colored pencils and a surrealistic style to speak about the conflict between nature and industry.

Here is the artist’s statement about his latest series of drawings:

Throughout history, particularly since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, mankind has been less than kind to their cohabitants on the planet. We build, produce and consume with little or no regard to the impact it has on the environment. It is the nature of nature to adapt and evolve in order to survive, and we are forcing other species to deal with compromised, damaged or destroyed ecosystems.

This series of triptychs depicts scenes resulting from our tragic indifference. They are rendered in a beautiful and natural way, highlighting the idea that we find this acceptable. We are numb to the damage – and so, the unnatural becomes natural to us. This may be the saddest commentary of all.

See Don’s Nature 2.0 exhibition on March 26th. Visit Yarger-Strauss for details on times and location.

The part where he’s getting on the bike and they pan onto his ass as he takes a seat is not right. Can’t this poor Dalmation chase balls, sniff butts, lick faces, eat, sleep, bark and walk like dogs are meant to do?

Ugly, Vicious Palin Vs. Beautiful, Peaceful Beluga Whales

Posted in animal rights, environment, politickin' by thuy | Tags: , ,

Alaska’s Cook Inlet beluga whales are a unique group of white whales whose numbers have dramatically declined in the past two decades due to pressures ranging from pollution to increased ship traffic. Governor Palin opposes the listing of the Cook Inlet beluga whales, citing the listing as a threat to oil and gas development, despite their genetic uniqueness and the fact that their numbers have decreased from 1,300 in the 1980s to about 350 (wtf!?) today. She has indicated her intention to file suit to block the listing.

I would like to file a suit to block her ass from getting near any and all animals besides the ones she has hanging on the walls of her dragon lair. I wish all her prized taxidermy would come to life one night and wake her up from her sleep and scream “we quit this bitch!” She seriously needs a Twilight Zone awakening.

PETA Is Pissed With Pinocchio

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, celeb by jen | Tags: ,

PETA is definitely not down with designer Giorgio Armani and they are urging celebs not to wear his clothes to the Oscars, claiming he went back on his pledge to stop using fur in his collection.

PETA’s latest advertising campaign which brands him as “Pinocchio Armani” states:

Giorgio Armani broke his public promise to stop using fur – his latest collections include fur-trimmed skirts and coats as well as jackets and even snowsuits for toddlers trimmed with rabbit fur.

He gets his fur from China, where animals – who are protected by no laws there – are often skinned alive.

Until Mr Armani makes good on his promise, please choose somebody else’s clothes to wear to this year’s Academy Awards.”

Ashley Judd Against Aerial Hunting And Palin

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, celeb by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund launched a national campaign to expose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s renewed anti-conservation agenda. The Action Fund first highlighted Palin’s record in Alaska during last fall’s presidential campaign when it ran TV ads across battleground states, highlighting Palin’s championing of the brutal and unnecessary aerial killing of wolves and other carnivores.

Defenders Action Fund’s campaign to expose Gov. Palin’s anti-wildlife agenda has attracted the support of actress and activist, Ashley Judd, who narrates the new video on www.eyeonpalin.org.

In a statement announcing the launch of the anti-Palin campaign, Judd says she is “outraged by Sarah Palin’s promotion of this cruel, unscientific and senseless practice which has no place in modern America.”

“Because she is apparently determined to continue and expand this horrific program, I am grateful that Defenders will aggressively fight to stop her. I am proud to be a part of that effort,” Judd says.

Vegan Condoms. Holler.

Posted in animal rights, sexy ting tings, shopping by jen | Tags: , ,

Locali, is a recently opened convenience store in Hollywood stocked with completely animal-free products.

Not only does Locali provide food products from local and sustainable suppliers, they also stock vegan condoms. Yes you heard right… VEGAN CONDOMS.

Normally when we start thinking condoms, we think meat… you know, hot beef injection, sausage, wiener…(but I digress).

Locali stocks the Glyde brand of condoms, which in the past consumers have purchased online via sites such as the Sensual Vegan,as the company is based out of Australia.

Lucky for us veggies on the hunt for animal-friendly sexcapades (ok, that came out wrong), we can now hit up our local convenience store, cop some eco-friendly cock socks and get busy!

7″ Wonder

Posted in Uncategorized, animal rights, eye candy, music by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

Forget about them tricks on the side. My eyes are focused right in the middle on my favorite 50 year old, animal loving, crooner. Yea, he’s gained a little weight and I know he’s got the greys but I would totally sit on that 7″ record and spin.

Morrissey and his bandmates appear in their birthday suits for the sleeve artwork of his new single ‘I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris’.

I really wish I was the stylist for this shoot. I’d like to know what contraption they came up with to keep those records up. No amount of double sided tape would do.

I can’t wait to stalk see him at Coachella. Him and Public Enemy-WHAT???

Olsen Haus Shoes Rocks My Socks

Posted in animal rights, environment, fashion, shopping by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Been eyeing shoes from Olsen Haus for quite some time. I would like to tell ya’ll what this fine company represents in the shoe game in my own words but they put it down so beautifully on their website, I’m just gonna rip a small tidbit from their philosophy page and save myself some time. Sorry, but after a 14 hour workday my fingers are giving me the side eye and telling me to get my arse to bed.

Business as Usual? More like Business Unusual.

The philosophy of olsenHaus is anchored in the universal truth, respect for all beings, with a dedication to the expression of truth in the material world. We are committed to being 100% animal-free / cruelty-free, producing functional goods, with a high standard of ethical social responsibility in animal rights, human rights, and the environment. Products are made of non-animal materials, in sample rooms and factories that are personally checked for ethical practices & environmental impact.

While many shoes kill, pollute, and destroy lives and ecosystems on their journey to your feet, we recognize these destructive production practices and do not consider them ‘business as usual’. We at Olsenhaus believe these processes can evolve toward a respect for animals, ecosystems and people.

Damn, that was like reading a bedtime story. Off to sleepytime I go so I can dream of kick ass companies that actually care, thriving ecosystems and crystal blue, pollution-free skies. Oh and shoes. Lots of them.

Pambo: This One’s For You Paul!!

Pam Anderson by David LaChapelle

You won’t find Pamela Anderson’s release at your local multiplex. The former Baywatch star and longtime animal advocate gave her voice for this video “Kentucky Fried Cruelty,” an undercover exposé blowing the whistle on the cruel treatment of animals at KFC’s factory farm and slaughterhouse suppliers. The video details just how horribly KFC treats chickens. Birds are so crippled that they can’t even walk, live birds are forced into tanks of scalding-hot water while completely conscious and able to feel pain, and Moorefield, W.Va., slaughterhouse workers kill birds by slamming them against the wall and stomping on them.

Thanks for the kind words Pauly boo-boo. Press play. It’ll make you feel better. xx

Oh and for those of you that have weak stomachs or don’t like to see violence- don’t press play.

When I heard the “Queen of Soul” was going to be performing in the freezing cold for the inauguration, I was expecting to see her decked out in one of her usual head to toe fur ensembles. But to my surprise, Ms. Franklin kept it classy and made a totally different statement by wearing this special chu’uch going hat adorned with Swarovski crystals.

You go with that bow Ree-Ree!

Mickey Rourke Does PETA

Posted in animal rights, pets by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

Mickey Rourke is the newest (don’t look at the) face for PETA. His latest flick and this ad makes me fall in love with him all over again. I just have to close my eyes and imagine him as John and his erotic sadomasochistic ways in 9 1/2 weeks. God, I so wanted to be his slave to love back in the day.

After watching that vid clip above, I’ve decided that I’d hit it in a wrestling ring with a blindfold on.

Peta Offering 10 G’s To Maker Of Vegetarian Foie Gras

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Peta is putting the word out with an offer of $10,000 for any chef that can make a vegetarian version of foie gras. I’ve never been a pâté type of gal, so this doesn’t even sound appetizing, but hey, anything to avoid animals being force-fed for their not so appetizing enlarged livers is good by me.

Foie gras (pronounced ‘fwah grah’) has been exalted in some gourmet food circles as a prized delicacy, but if most people knew how foie gras is produced, they would be horrified.

Foie gras, the French term for “fatty liver,” is the product of extreme animal cruelty. It is the swollen, diseased liver of ducks and geese who are force-fed just up until the point of death before being slaughtered. Birds suffer tremendously, both during and after the force-feeding process, as their physical condition rapidly deteriorates. In just a few weeks, their livers swell up to ten times their normal size, and the birds can scarcely stand, walk, or even breathe. At this point, they are slaughtered, and their livers are peddled as a “gourmet” delicacy.

Gourmet delicacy my ass! That shit is straight up Janet if you NASTY!

Shepard Fairey To Obama: ADOPT!!

Posted in Peeps We Rep, animal cruelty, animal rights, art, eye candy, film/tv/print, pets by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

I was doing my daily blog run and stopped dead in my screen tracks when I came across this post on my girl Pauline’s blog on Vimby. It’s a poster done by Shep from Obey, for the book “Animal Farm” by Norman Orwell. I don’t know what rock I was under in my teenage years but I never read this book. Now, after reading a summary on it and learning that the characters are pigs, that overtake a farm from their mean owner, I’m running out to Barnes and Nobles and getting myself a copy asap!

Hold up… as I went to the Obey site to link this story to them I almost shit veggie rocks when I saw this recent work of his. FUCK YES!!! ADOPT!!!

We’ve done a few posts on our hopes that Obama picks a shelter dog for his girls. Buying a pet from a pet store or breeder sucks when there are millions of lovable, abandoned animals available in pounds.

Taken from the Obey site, in Fairey’s words:

A MUTT LIKE ME

The day Obama stated his interest in adopting a dog from the shelter was a slightly brighter one for the approximately 7 million adoptable dogs & cats killed each year in this country. The staggering reality is that for each one sold at a pet store or by a breeder, another perfectly worthy one is killed. Our nations shelters are filled to capacity with all kinds of amazing adoptable animals including, as Obama put it, “Mutts like me.”

On the heels of Obama’s comment, I got a call from Pia Salk, an animal advocate who works with North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com. Pia simply asked if I might be willing to collaborate on a way to have my art help these animals.

As most of you know, I’m a big believer in speaking up for all who suffer injustice, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or in this case, species! And I’m all for adopting from the shelter. My wife and I share our home with 2 pooches, George and Weezie, who is a rescue. They are the happy canine siblings to our 2 human daughters.

The image I created for this print reminds me of a dog I had as kid, a mutt named Honey.

We have created a limited edition run of 400 signed and numbered silk-screen prints that will be available at: www.muttslikeme.com. The January sale date will be announced soon and proceeds will go to getting the furry non-partisan U.S. residents, who share our country, saved and into homes through:www.Adoptapet.com

Check out the site and search for adoptable animals in your area or other ways to help.
