Octomom Says No To Porn, Yes To PETA

Nadya Suleman has fourteen mouths to feed and is rumored to be running behind in mortgage payments. Well guess who’s come to the rescue by offering her 5 G’s and a months supply of veggie burgers? PETA! FTW!!! From their website:
It seems like everybody has an opinion about “Octomom” Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight babies last year. No matter where you stand on that decision, starring in porn isn’t Suleman’s only option to remedy the recently rumored foreclosure proceedings on her home in La Habra, Calif. In fact, PETA is offering to bolster her finances by paying to place an ad on her front lawn:

CNN Heroes Of 2009
Posted in baby/child, charitable causes, food/drink, health, video/media by thuy | Tags: CNN Heroes 2009, Dynamic Teen Company, Jordan Thomas Foundation, maxwell, Wine to Water
Last night in an attempt to pull myself away from my own drunken pity party of downloading picture hell, I turned on the boob tube and stopped dead in my remote tracks once I caught glimpse of the hot piece above. It was CNN Heroes of 2009 and I got a quick reality check of people with real issues and the ones that are doing something to help.
Bartender Doc Hendley is providing clean water to communities worldwide. Through creative fundraising, his nonprofit Wine To Water has brought sustainable water systems to 25,000 people in five countries.
Jordan Thomas, 20, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, lost both of his legs in a boating accident in 2005. Since then, his Jordan Thomas Foundation has raised more than $400,000 to provide prosthetics for children in need.
Efren Peñaflorida gives Filipino youth an alternative to gang membership through education. His Dynamic Teen Company‘s 10,000 members have taught basic reading and writing to 1,500 kids living in the slums.
Thowin’ in this clip of Maxwell performing just because..um..it’s Maxwell! Swoon.
Check out the rest of the heroes and their inspiring stories here.
Baddest Mom-Mobile On Two Wheels: Makes Me Want To Pop One Of Those Baby Things Out!
Posted in auto/transportation, baby/child, board/bikes by thuy | Tags: Bridgestone Angelino Assista Electric Bike, electric bike, kids seatThe Bridgestone Angelino Assista electric bike is a bicycle for parents: this one has no crossbar, a child seat (there’s also space for one on the back) and an electric motor to help with the pedaling. It’s range per charge is 37 miles. The handlebars are elongated so that the adult can see right over the top of the child.
There’s a long list of it’s features that can be found at the G Living link below. I’m too lazy to write them all out. The only one I care to mention is that the baby seat can be transformed into a basket! Guess I won’t have to join the Hollywood baby manufacturing alliance after all.
Asking price: $1312.00. Not bad IMO compared to the ones I saw at Best Buy recently.

Terracycle Wants Your Wrappers
Posted in baby/child, food/drink, holiday, reduce/reuse/recycle, shopping by thuy | Tags: candy spelling, food wrappers, gift wrapping, kite, reduce/reuse/recycle, terracycleTodays theme in my posts: junk food. Bad for us, but we still eat them.
I check in with Terracycle from time to time to see what new recycled wrapper products they’ve come up with.
I loved flying kites when I was a kid. And I also loved Oreo cookies dipped in milk. Now, not so much. But this kite made from recycled wrappers for the low price of $5.99 is pretty slick.
The holidays are less than 100 days away and although my Candy Spelling manic wrapping days are over, sometimes a bow on a plain box or bag adds just the right touch.
Go to Terracycle to find out which retail locations carry their products or join their online brigades to raise money from your wrappers to donate to a charity or your favorite school.

“Lunch Encounters” launched the One Tray campaign depicting the cafeteria tray as the conduit for a reformed school food system that supports healthy children, local farms, and smart schools. “Lunch Encounters,” a spoof of Close Encounters of the Third Kind was made to raise awareness for the upcoming reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act.
The videos are clear: if you want a healthier America, take action at onetray.org. Every child deserves the opportunity to eat food in school that ensures their health and well-being and Farm to School programs are one solution to incorporating healthier foods into school meals.

F*CK RINGLING BROS!
Posted in animal rights, baby/child, events, in the wild, los angeles, video/media, wtf by thuy | Tags: animal cruelty, bullhorns, elephant torture, ringling bastards, ringling bros abuse, ringling bros., staples centerSorry about being out of commission since being back. Busy with work and prepping for my next shoot with Coco Eco Magazine.
I was just sent this link from Perez Hilton. Ringling Bros. had their show (arrived the day of the Michael Jackson Memorial) in LA at the Staples Center- they had a 4 day run beginning on July 9th.
When I heard that a few of my friends were going to the circus that week, my stomach knotted up. I tried explaining to them that the animals (especially the elephants) get beat and it didn’t make a difference. How could it if you only see the glittery show side and not what goes on behind those curtains and what they go through while traveling between cities and in their training sessions?
PETA vice president Daphna Nachminovitch said that their undercover agent “witnessed these elephants being beaten for no apparent reason.”
Ringling Bros. said they could not comment on the video because it had not been viewed yet, but they did say that “PETA is an animal rights extremist group…We are very proud of our animal care, we are committed to the care of all our animals partly through our conservation programs at the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation…We have 139 years of experience of working with Asian elephants.”
If you support Ringling Bitchasses this is what your money is contributing to.
Disgusting.
FUCK YOU RINGLING BASTARDS!

Green Toys For Tots
Posted in baby/child, environment, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: california, green toys inc., local, recycled milk jugs, reduce/reuse/recycle, toysGreen Toys makes children’s toys out of recycled milk jugs. My first thought was, how could that be? Plastic is bad, especially for kids to stick in their mouths. But apparently it’s reprocessed into high-density polyethylene which is considered to be the safest and cleanest plastic available.
The products are manufactured right here in Cali, which is a plus for us. Less distance for production= less gas emissions.
Also, Green Toys uses less packaging. Big plus in my books. They use recycled corrugated boxes, no plastic, cellophane or zip ties and the box is 100% recyclable. Exactly how all packaging should be.
And of course the most important part- safety. The toys contain no traceable amounts of Phthalates or BPA. They are also designed without any external coatings, eliminating the fear of lead paint.
I know I’m too old for toys but something is making me want that sand play set!

Radiohead: All I Need
Posted in baby/child, music by thuy | Tags: all i need, mtv, radiohead, sweatshop, teenage, thom yorkeRadiohead joined MTV’s campaign against human trafficking in their “All I Need” video:
“They’ve produced a video of two parallel stories running, one of a little boy in the West and one of a little boy in a sweatshop in the East, and the boy [in the West] ends up buying the shoes from the sweatshop. It’s actually quite powerful,” Yorke said. “It’s the sort of images I have in my head anyway. Sometimes when you’re walking down High Street and you’re looking at the incredibly cheap [sneakers], you sort of think, ‘Hmmm, well how did they manage to make that so cheaply?’ It sort of reminds me of one of my preoccupations, so I’m touched that the music goes with that. I think it’s great.”
This video is powerful. It’s scary that in this day and age 2.5 million people are victims of human trafficking. While one video can not make a huge difference, it can definitely raise awareness to the problem.

12 Year Old Wins 10 G’s, Designs For Homeless By Using Trash
Posted in baby/child, environment, home, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: contest, homeless, kid, shelter, talent, trashWhen 12-year-old Max Wallack of Natick heard of WGBH’s Design Squad “Trash to Treasure” design contest, he was ready to give his best shot. The kid stole the show with his “Home Dome” innovation, which is primarily a shelter for the homeless made from plastic, wire and packing peanuts. With his project, he has shown his care for the people in need of shelter and on the other hand, it deals with the problem of increasing landfills. The makeshift dwelling is in the form of a Mongolian yurt and features a built-in bed. For this innovative design, Max won $10,000, a Dell laptop powered by Intel and a trip to Boston to see his design meet realism.

Terracycle
Posted in baby/child, charitable causes, environment, reduce/reuse/recycle by thuy | Tags: reduce/reuse/recycle, terracycleTerracycle creates amazing products from recycled goods. Terracycle began in 2001. Two Princeton University students (now co-founders of Terracycle) Tom Szaky and Jon Beyer, inspired by a worm box, set out to prove that a business could financially succeed while being ecologically and socially responsible. So far, so good.
The Terracycle Company first began the company selling eco-lawn and gardening products. The products were created out of recycled soda bottles, yogurts cups etc. The company continued by producing all natural cleaners in upcycled soda bottles. Naturally, the natural cleaning ingredients have never been tested on animals and are biodegradable.
But, if you think the Terracycle Company is the only ones that benefits financially from this environmental thinking and production, think again. Terracycle provides fundraising opportunities for schools, churches, charities and other organizations. Schools can collect recyclable material Terracylce needs and in return Terracycle pays a percentage for these materials to the school or organization.
Today the Terracycle Company has taken one more step in the green direction. It has created a line of eco-friendly school and office supplies. Believe it or not you can find them at Office Max. Some of the new products consist of: paper made from banana peels, pencil cases made from recycled juice pouches, colored pencils made from used newspapers, notebook made of recycled paper, metal ring and waste wrappers, binders made of recycled papers. Many of these products are made in the U.S. Some of these products, such as the binders, once worn and torn, can be returned to Terracycle to be upcycled again.

Octuplets + 304,000 Diapers = One Helluva Carbon Footprint
Posted in baby/child, reusable by thuy | Tags: carbon footprint, disposable diapers, octupletsThat’s if the mom uses disposable diapers. Considering she’s jobless, living at home with her mom and has 6 other kids to care for, it seems that reusable diapers would be the smart way to go.
I’m convinced that the baby making machine known as Nadya Suleman has crazy on the brains. Even Brad and Angelina are like DAYUM!! And you know it’s bad when you got Kate Gosselin from John & Kate Plus 8 saying she’s shocked and worried that homegirl has 14 kids to take care of on the solo tip. Our Voices Will Change Their World
Posted in Peeps We Rep, baby/child, music, politickin' by thuy | Tags: agape, agape childrens choir, change our worldThe Agape Children’s Choir and Little Engine Productions have created a video called “Change My World,” with a non-partisan view, at encouraging voters to take an interest in our children’s future and taking their voices to the polls.
The emphasis of the words is on sending a positive political message while transcending party lines. Fifteen year-old Ayanna Stokes, who joined the choir at age ten, sings the lead vocals. This isn’t the first time Ayanna has used her musical talent in a political arena, as she was also a featured soloist for programs honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Stacy Peralta, an award winning documentary film maker known for such projects as Dogtown & Z Boys andRiding Giants, directed the video. The lyrics for the video, were written by Emmy nominated composer Tree Adams and producer Gina Matthews. Their collaborative goal was to use music as an inspiration, while using the voices of kids, to encourage voters to consider children and their future when they cast their ballots.
I recently attended Agape and pleasantly surprised to witness the children’s choir perform live. They sang, danced and even added in a message about recycling and the environment. Their performance was very inspiring, as is this video.
Do it for the children. Vote.
Thanks to Yosi Sergant for passing this along.

Green Your Baby
Posted in baby/child, health by thuy | Tags: baby, born free, bpa, chemical free, eco friendly, green baby, health, organic, phthalatesTwo of my dear friends welcomed a baby boy into the world last week. The proud new parents have been eco-conscious way before it was “cool to be green,” so it came as no surprise when I checked their registry online and saw that they listed plenty of eco-conscious baby products.
I was excited that the Born Free glass bottles were still available. They are BPA, Phthalate and PVC free. If I were a parent, I would take the extra precaution and buy these bottles instead.
The FDA won’t admit that the chemicals found in conventional plastic bottles may be dangerous to a child’s health. Remember, Phthalates are believed to make boys have smaller wee-wee’s, among a long list of other things. You wouldn’t want to do that to your future son would you?
I also picked up an organic cotton swaddler, or as some of me and my friends like to call it, an eggroll or burrito wrapper. I got a few other items but I didn’t gift wrap any of them. Why? Because it’s a waste of paper that’s going to be ripped off and thrown away. Instead I bought a 100% recyclable gift bag from Babies R Us, threw the items in and called it a day.
Congrats to Ivana, Greg and earth friendly baby Luka.

Girls We Heart: Nicole Richie
Posted in baby/child, celeb, charitable causes, fashion, girls we heart, shopping by jenNicole Richie has definitely come a long way since her spoiled, ditzy, dim-witted diva days on the Simple Life (I’m not gonna lie, season 1 & 2 were great but it all went downhill in season 3 when Paris and Nicole got into a big fight and didn’t talk for like a year, and then made up and were reunited in season 4, and everything was all good again…but I digress)
Ever since the birth of her daughter, Harlow, she’s been getting all philanthropic on us. She created the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation with her rocker boyfriend Joel Madden, and recently announced a collection of Signorelli angel tees to be sold with the profits donated to build a pediatric clinic on wheels for the Children’s Health Fund. Pampering With A Purpose
Posted in baby/child, beauty, events by thuyLast nights’ Opportunity Green event was an evening of pampering, networking and inspiration. Guest speakers really opened our eyes to the incredible dangers of chemicals in our beauty products. We heard a lot of discussion about the link between these products and cancer as well as a possible link to autism.
On a less serious note, there was tons of pampering for all of the lovely ladies…(and men)- Manicures with non-toxic Aquarella nail polish, mini-facials with Jurlique products and eyebrow waxing with Jenny Wax. Thuy and I opted out of those services, but snapped a quick flick on our way out with hostess of the evening, Karen Solomon (Co-founder and CEO of Opportunity Green). Apparently she opted for an eco-friendly baby nursery for her soon-to-be born little one, and was recently seen at a farmers market carrying reusable tote bags for her purchases. Well actually her cutie patootie soon-to-be hubby was doing all of the heavy lifting… What a gentleman!

The Little Seed That Could
Posted in baby/child, los angeles, shopping by jen | Tags: children's clothing, los angeles, organic, the little seedMy mid-80′s style icon Soleil Moon Frye (aka Punky Brewster) still has one foot in the fashion game, but this time we’re talking baby fashion. Along with good friends Beth Birkett and Paige Tolmach, Soleil has opened an eco-friendly baby store in Los Angeles, called The Little Seed.
Frustrated with the lack of non-toxic, organic baby toys, she took matters into her own hands and created an environmentally conscious baby emporium. I’m sure she’ll have plenty of business with Hollywood’s latest baby boom. New mommies Jessica Alba and Halle Berry have apparently decked out their nurseries using sustainable furniture and non-toxic products.

Organic Threads For Keiki And Mamas
Posted in baby/child, fashion, shopping by jen | Tags: childrens clothes, organic, organic keikiOur good friend Karen, a Hawaiian native, turned us onto her families’ online retail store, Organickeiki.com. They stock natural, non-toxic toys and accessories, eco-friendly diapers and clothes for keiki (kids) and mamas. Products are carefully hand-selected in the spirit of Aloha.
Organic Keiki’s diverse collection of toys, accessories and organic clothes are not just fun – they’re friendly to the planet and to the people who make them. “We are committed to providing products that are made from socially and environmentally responsible resources. Like the ancient Hawaiians, we strive to protect the future world our children will inherit.”
