Joaquin Phoenix Is BACK! And Hot. But Will Still Make You Cry
Posted in celeb, fashion, wild things by thuy | Tags: Exotic Luxury Goods, Exotic Skins, peta, river phoenixWhen I saw this link sent to me from a gf, I went giddy seeing Joaquin cleaned up, the crazy washed out from his eyes and ready to be my baby daddy again. My thrill was immediately replaced by horror. I have forced myself to watch Earthlings and many other animal cruelty videos but I had to close my eyes several times while watching this one.
It’s one thing to kill an animal humanely (is there such a thing?) for our luxury fashion addictions but to cut up and skin an animal while it is alive and leave if for dead, sometimes for up to 4 days???….words just can’t explain.
I just checked all of my shoes and bags and realized I do have a clutch made from what looks like alligator skin- I got it from a styling gig. It’s getting donated TODAY.
WARNING: This video is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC!!! But, I still suggest you watch it. You don’t have to stop buying or throw anything out- but at least you’ll be conscious of how it came to be.

Korean Bibimbop Is The Bomb!
Posted in celeb, food/drink, veggie love, video/media by thuy | Tags: Bibimbop, goop, gwyneth paltrow, korean, vegetarianHere’s Gwenny giving a 7 minute video on how to cook this deliciousness without having to venture out to K-town.
Bibimbop literally means “mixed rice” or “mixed meal” in Korean. It’s a popular meal consisting of a bowl of steamed white rice topped with vegetables, a whole egg, and kochujang (Korean chili pepper paste).
Seems simple enough. I think I’ll give it a try but if I don’t succeed, I’ll have a nice big bowl of rice with kimchee and practice my julienne skillz.

Brent Bolthouse Photography Show: Greenland (A Beautiful Lie)
Posted in celeb, environment, music by thuy | Tags: a beautiful lie, brent bolthouse, glaciers, greenland, jared leto, thirty seconds to marsExcited about hitting this up tonight. From the invite:
These photographs are the story of my trip to Greenland with my good friends from Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Jared Leto went to Greenland on an environmental mission to shoot a video for his band’s single, A Beautiful Lie, and invited me along to take photos.
He came back with an incredible video that focuses on the effect global warming is having on the world’s coldest climates and I came back with the photographs featured in this show.
Although it has only been two years since my trip, the glaciers and icebergs have already changed dramatically. I hope you enjoy the exhibit, but also take time to reflect on the fact that this ice is disappearing at an alarming rate.

Lady Gaga Dons Kermit To Denounce Fur
Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, music, wtf by thuy | Tags: Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, kermit the frog, lady gagaNever one to shy away from being outrageous, Lady Gaga wore this get up during an interview on a German TV show.
Inevitably, the interview took a turn towards Lady Gaga’s unconventional fashion choices in recent European interviews, specifically a coat made up completely of plush Kermit the Frog puppets.
“The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces,” said Gaga. “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing at the house because it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”
Umm..is it just me or does she kinda resemble Janice?

Heath Ledger X Modest Mouse: For The Whales
Posted in animal rights, celeb, charitable causes, in the wild, music, video/media by thuy | Tags: heath ledger, modest mouse, sea shepherd conservation society, whale huntingBefore his untimely death, Heath Ledger began directing a video for Modest Mouse’s “King Rat”. Unfortunately he died before the video was completed, and it has been languishing in limbo until now.
The concept of “King Rat” video is based on Ledger’s “vision, brave and unapologetic in its nature [which] marry his love of bold and original music with his impassioned stance against the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place of the coast of Australia each year.” Proceeds from this video’s downloads in its first month of release will go toward Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an international non-profit organization committed to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.
Watch Ledger’s music video, completed by his associates at the Masses, a violently unabashed commentary on illegal whale hunting.

What have we done to the world
Look what we’ve done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son…
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine…
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores
Never can say goodbye- so for now I thank him for giving us a gazillion memorable party time songs..he definitely made his mark on this earth and will be missed.

Jessica Alba: Activist FAIL
Posted in animal rights, celeb, in the wild by thuy | Tags: great white posters, great white sharks, jessica alba, poster campaign, posters, united way, white mike, white sharksLast month I did a post on these posters that have been mysteriously popping up on walls in various cities. The purpose of the guerilla marketing from White Mike is to raise awareness about the dwindling population of great white sharks.
Until now, the person or persons that started this poster plastering campaign has remained a mystery.
Well guess which celeb got busted for putting the posters up in Oklahoma City, over a United Way (oops! that’s a non-profit) poster no less?
Little Ms. Into the Blue herself. She posted posters for a good cause- documented it on a camera (bad move) got heat from United Way and then issued this statement:
“I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”
Way to go by blaming the people behind the campaign Jess. Judging by your big smile and *hands in the air* pics, it doesn’t look like anyone put a gun to your head or forced the glue into your hands. You know all the sharks are saying: “You’re doing it wrong HONEY!”
As for the real people behind White Mike.. I guess any press is good press.

HOME is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Betrand (photographer of “Earth from Above” book.). The film is entirely composed of aerial shots of various places around Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet.
The movie was released simultaneously on June 5th (World Environmental Day) in cinemas all over the world, on DVD, TV and on YouTube. Released on the same date in 50 countries is a world record for any film release in history. The film is 100% free, and no profits will be made from its release or future showings.
Making this movie was an unusual risk for its financial backer, one of the planet’s biggest retailing conglomerates, France’s PPR SA. PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid 10 million euros ($20.55 million) of the 12 million euro production budget to create HOME.
Laurent Claquin, senior vice-president of corporate social and environmental responsibility at PPR, said the company took a chance on the film.
“It’s true we’re putting ourselves at risk in a way,” said “We’re not perfect yet. We’re never going to be perfect. But we have a duty to act.”
In May, PPR Chief Executive Francois-Henri Pinaulttold a press conference: “This film commits us not to consume less, but to consume differently.”
The film is narrated in English by Glenn Close, in Spanish by Salma Hayek – also Pinault’s wife – and in 15 other languages.

Pink Thinks Ye Is An Idiot
Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, girls we heart, wtf by thuySinger-PETA activist Pink is fiery and disgusted about sitting next to Kanye West and hearing him whine about the absence of fur during a Stella McCartney fashion show..
Pink told Australia’s FHM, “Kanye West is the person pissing me off right now. I was at Stella McCartney’s fashion show with the vice president of PETA, Paul McCartney and Kanye.”
“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”

Meat Was Murder For Moz At Coachella
Posted in animal cruelty, boys we heart, celeb, events, food/drink, music by thuy | Tags: animal cruelty, coachella, meat, meat is murder, morrissey, moz, mozzersThe video clip above is of Morrissey walking off the stage during his set at Coachella because the smell of cooking meat offended him.
Morrissey gave his quote of the year at Coachella just before he walked off the stage during his song “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others”: “I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it’s human,” he said, smelling the barbeque sold by festival vendors.
To his credit, Moz did return to the stage and continue his set, giving the explanation that “the smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn’t bear it.”
Morrissey usually has a strict ban on meat products at his gigs, but at festivals, anything goes.
Homie is SERIOUS about his hatred for meat. I don’t blame him. The smell of seafood makes me want to puke through my nostrils.
In other news, he was set to play the next night in my old stomping grounds of San Francisco. He cancelled his show only to be seen later chilling at the DNA Lounge. Oh that Mozzers, always so dramatic. We wouldn’t have it any other way. But I would have been PISSED as hell if I was supposed to be attending that show and he cancelled!

Posted in celeb, charitable causes, environment, home by thuy | Tags: boys we heart, edward nortonPlaying the Hulk is not Norton’s only green claim to fame.
Norton was once named International Man of the Year by British GQ magazine, doing much before and since to prove the title’s accuracy, including signing a petition being sent to the U.N. for the universal decriminalization of homosexuality; creating and contributing to a Middle East Peacemakers Fund at Yale (his alma mater) in response to 9/11; holding benefit film screenings; hosting a National Geographic program, Strange Days on Planet Earth, about environmental issues; and being a continuing board member of Friends of the High Line, a group dedicated to saving an elevated green space in Manhattan.
While in the process of fitting his own home with solar panels, Norton came up with the idea of supporting others through his purchase. He convinced BP Solar to join up, offering free solar power systems to low-income families each time a celebrity buys a system for themselves.
To date, Solar Neighbors has helped numerous Los Angeles families, chosen by Enterprise. It has been supported by celebs such as Brad Pitt, Ed Begley Jr., Salma Hayek, Danny Devito and Rhea Pearlman and Alicia Silverstone.
And of course I’d hit it. On a bed of solar panels.

Traci Bingham Bangs Out The Trash
Posted in celeb, eye candy, fashion, reduce/reuse/recycle, sexy ting tings by thuy | Tags: reduce/reuse/recycle, stripper, traci bingham, trashHere’s Jordan Tate showing us ladies how taking out the trash is done with elegance and class.
Do it in broad day light with your hair did and a full face of makeup. Sport a see through cropped tank, mini skirt and boots. And for the love of gawd, don’t forget to color coordinate with your bins.. you never know who’s gonna be lurking and snapping pics. Well I mean you’ll know bc if anyone’s there, it’s the paps that you called yourself for a photo-op. But hey, no one’s gotta know that but you.
Here we see her taking out the green and the black bins but where’s the shot of the blue recycle bin? I know it’s not the most flattering color Traci, but give the blue some lovin’ too!

Tsk Tsk Leo!
Posted in celeb, reusable by jen | Tags: eco friendly, leo dicaprio, whole foodsWe’ve known hunky heartthrob Leo DiCaprio as “King of the World” ever since his Titantic days, but for us in the “green” community he has a reputation as the King of Environmental Activism. That’s why I’m gonna have to call him out for rockin’ an un-environmentally friendly paper bag, coming outta Whole Foods with his boo.
Time to start stocking up on the eco-friendly reusable bags Leo!!
