I’m Back But Not Really

I spent the better part of yesterday recovering, reminiscing, resting and rehydrating. And then wrapped it up by unpacking penis paraphernalia, learning how to speak again, having someone administer a continuous supply of pho broth to me intravenously and trying to get our weekend bachelorette party theme song outta my head! It’s on repeat and I must make it stop!

Yeah, don’t ask. It wasn’t anybody’s bday and there was no sexin’ going on (wink.) Thanks limo dude for having the best music selection ever.

Celebrate m.a.m.a. earth and Make A Change For the Better June 11

m.a.m.a. e a r t h is a new non-profit organization that is ready to introduce itself to the world. Proceeds from this charity event will benefit Nourish the Children and Shine On Sierra Leone.

m.a.m.a. e a r t h is the brainchild of Kailani Bayot, a mother of two from O’ahu, HI who now resides in Los Angeles. Kailani has never been short on ideas and she’s pouring all of her creative energy into m.a.m.a. e a r t h.

“We are dedicated to raising awareness and making a change for the better by helping charities raise funds to benefit their causes,” says Kailani. “The concept of m.a.m.a. earth started with bracelets I make using hemp and the natural stone azurite-malachite, which is believed to be a sacred stone that promotes healing and aids in transformation. Singer-PETA activist Pink is fiery and disgusted about sitting next to Kanye West and hearing him whine about the absence of fur during a Stella McCartney fashion show..

Pink told Australia’s FHM, “Kanye West is the person pissing me off right now. I was at Stella McCartney’s fashion show with the vice president of PETA, Paul McCartney and Kanye.”

“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”

Isn’t She Lovely?

About two dozen elementary school students helped first lady Michelle Obama break ground on the first day of spring for a garden on the White House grounds.

The 1,100-square-foot garden, the first of its kind since Eleanor Roosevelt planted a victory garden during World War II, will grow dozens of vegetables, berries and herbs.

The collection of crops, a wish list from White House kitchen staff, will include lettuces, squash, fennel, rhubarb, cucumbers and sweet and hot peppers. White House chefs will use the produce to prepare meals for the family and for official functions, and some of the produce will be donated to Miriam’s Kitchen, a soup kitchen near the White House.

There will also be a beehive.

“We’re going to try to make our own honey here as well,” Obama told the fifth-graders from Bancroft Elementary School in Washington before they got to work on Friday.

The students will be brought back to the White House next month to help with the planting, and after that to help harvest and cook some of the produce in the mansion’s kitchen. The first harvest is expected by late April.

With the garden, Obama initiated a public campaign to help Americans better understand where their food comes from.

I think I’ve made it clear how I feel about Obama, but just to let ya’ll in on a lil’ secret, I crush on Michelle too.

Stella McCartney: Paris Fashion Week

Sir Paul McCartney and his American girlfriend Nancy Shevell were just two of the A-listers adorning the front row at Stella McCartney‘s Autumn/Winter show in Paris on Monday. Others included Beth Ditto, Kanye West, Thandie Newton and Salma Hayek.

However, McCartney’s cast of supporters did not deflect from her designs, which won near universal praise from fashion writers overnight. The looks – bold ‘boyfriend’ jackets, raunchy thigh-high boots in faux leather and suede, silk slip dresses, cocoon-shaped coats and the all-in-one jumpsuits championed by Stella long before anyone else – were all signature McCartney. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ !!!!!

Ho’omaika’i ‘Ana To Sally & Gregory!!

The reason we were in Hawaii a few weeks back: Mr. and Mrs. McKnight.

This is what we were greeted with shortly after we landed in Maui. Mother nature at her finest.

It was a hike to get to this red sand beach but once we made it, we were in awe. Not without some LA whining along the way…how much farther? are we almost there yet? shit, I should have worn different shoes…

The crew with “Sally That Girl,” soon after she tied the knot. One down, the rest of us to go- who’s next???

Shout out to our hotel for using recycled toilet paper, recycled paper towels and for supplying our bathroom with natural products. Oh and for mahalo for our lovely beachfront view of heaven on earth.

Thanks to Sally and Gregory for giving the option of donating to their favorite charity, the California Shar-pei rescuse, in lieu of wedding gifts. Learning that several dogs were able to get medical attention and supplies, thanks to the couple and their loved ones, sure does beat receiving a new set of pots or a shiny gift from Tiffany’s in our book.

Congratulations Sally, we love you! Gregory, welcome to the fam. Thank you for having one of the most memorable and beautiful weddings ever.

Kahi Lee: Unlock The Cure

Props to my girl Kahi Lee, a truly talented interior designer and host on HGTV’s “Design on a Dime.”

Kahi has teamed up with Botanist/Orange22 to unveil a new eco-friendly furniture line named “Unlock the Cure,” which benefits the Cancer Research Institute. The line consists of a cocktail table, bench and an end table with a cut out key design.

Kahi’s inspiration:

“I call my design “Unlock the Cure”. Cancer has affected far too many people in my life and I’m committed to doing something about it. The cure is out there, we just need to find the key. The light-reflective and luminous quality of the metallic finish symbolizes hope and optimism.”

Well, I too have a thing for keys..and a thing for being eco-friendly and I, like many, have been affected by a loved one suffering from cancer. Thanks to Kahi, for designing these beautiful pieces to remind us all to keep hope alive in finding a key to the cure.

From Clueless To Kind

Your favorite Clueless girl and long-time vegan is set to write a tell-all book…. No, not about her wild-child party days, followed by a stint in rehab, more partying then a relapse, back to rehab.. rinse and repeat.

Alicia Silverstone is actually one of the few Hollywood girls who hasn’t gone that route. On the contrary she has been a strict vegan for years and hardcore animal activist. She’s also very publicly battled the bulge and was even referred to as “Fatgirl” instead of “Batgirl” in the Batman and Robin movie.

So it only makes sense that she would pen a book on vegan dieting.

The book entitled The Kind Diet is set to release in Fall 2009 and “explores the connection between what we put in our bodies and what we’re doing to the planet, and how choosing the right foods in the kitchen can help you feeling lighter, sexier, and more alive.”

The book will also include a 3-step diet program, along with 75 vegan and macrobiotic recipes.

Pink Cloud Does It Again With Opportunity Green

Opportunity Green held it’s two day conference at UCLA over the weekend and on Saturday night we got to be a part of the after party thrown by, none other than the event queen herself, Sarah Shewey of Pink Cloud Events.

There were yummy treats provided by some of our favorite eateries such as Leaf Cuisine, Tender Greens and Ciudad. Bevearges full of goodness were served by my friends new company, Barbelles. Hot chicks serving up canned heat is always a nice addition to any soiree. We loved the various stations that were set up for recycling and composting. No forks, plates, cups, or food bits went to waste. This was a party for the conscious.

Afterwards, a handful of peeps headed to Ecco in Hollywood, where they had a special table reserved for Ms. Shewey and her entourage. Environmentally friendly 360 vodka makes dirty dancing and innocent debauchery a lot more fun.

If you watch Planet Green’s Alter Eco show, keep your eye out for Sarah, she’s appeared in a few recent episodes.

Last night was the launch party for Anna Griffin’s, Coco Eco Magazine. It was held at the D&A (Designers and Agents) Green Market in downtown L.A. There was plenty of free-flowing alcohol to sip while perusing the eco-fashions.

All of the usual green suspects were in the hizzle-Bahar Shahpar, Edun, Toms Shoes and Alkemie jewelry to name a few. Of course we bumped into Sarah Shewey of Pink Cloud Events, as well as partners-in-crime Summer Bowen (BTC Elements) and Siel (greenlagirl.com).

Los Angeles Gets CONNECTED

Our girl Sarah Shewey of Pink Cloud Events really did her thug thizzle this past weekend at the Abbot Kinney festival. Her execution of the green lifestyle area, CONNECTED, was a smashing success.

The festivities kicked off on Saturday night with a VIP lounge for media and sponsors of the event. The real party started on Sunday, where over 100 thousand people made their way to the festival to enjoy a day of music, food, shopping and entertainment.

GG&S was honored to be a media sponsor for CONNECTED, and we were excited to see so many people taking an interactive part in the lifestlye lounge. A good time was had by all!

M.I.S.S Crew Gets A Lil’ Greener

One of the mandatory stops on the way to getting my daily blog roll fix is the the M.I.S.S Crew blog. I can always count on getting a good dose of fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips with a street savvy twist.

The M.I.S.S. Crew girls not only represent female empowerment but I’ve been noticing that they’ve been adding some green tips to their daily posts… just another reason to love them and add them to your list of favorites as well.

They recently posted about a dope reusable bag called the Greenaid by Lovegrove and Repucci, not only is it cute and convenient but it also makes a political statement about war.

Shareen Vintage In Venice

Vintage shop-stocker extraordinaire, Shareen Mitchell, has been slanging her vintage threads in an industrial warehouse in Downtown L.A. for what seems like forever. We loved her stuff but we didn’t love the trek into the confusing and sometimes sketchy back roads of Downtown L.A.

Those of us who can’t get enough of her unique vintage picks are in luck cuz’ she just opened a second location on Abbott Kinney in Venice Beach. More of the same Shareen Vintage goodness in a new, more accessible location. Gotta love it!

N.B- Shareen Vintage also hosted the last Ladies Lotto jump-off. Girl Power!!

Carmen Is Ridin’ Dirty

Tha Carter

Born, raised and still holding it down for the South Bronx, Majora Carter believes that you shouldn’t have to move out of your neighborhood to live in a better one. Her theory is that change can start in your own backyard, even if that backyard is home to a higher concentration of power plants, sewage treatment facilities, diesel truck fleets and waste-transfer stations than any other section of the city. Out of this philosophy she created Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx), a non-profit environmental justice solutions corporation.

This girl we ♥ has far too many accolades, achievements and awards to mention, but the accomplishment she is most proud of is her B.E.S.T (Bronx Environmental Stewardship Training) program. It is one of the nation’s first urban green-collar job training and placement program.

B.E.S.T was born out of a need for urban horticulture infrastructure and a lack of skilled labor. Upon completion of this 10 week course, students are then certified to perform jobs such as riverbank restoration, green roof installation, stream bank stabilization, amongst other “greening” practices.

The program has been met with much success and many of its graduates were formerly incarcerated and all of them were on some type of public assistance.

Helping the less fortunate who live in your community as well as cleaning up the environment at the same time is definitely our idea of green grown and sexy.

Our new friend Anna Griffin who is a contributor to Ecorazzi and is about to launch Ecobella (an online fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine covering all things green), was kind enough to turn us onto the rad beauty shopping mecca, Future Natural.

Future Natural is basically an online Sephora but on eco-friendly steroids. If you are a beauty junkie but also care about the environment and natural beauty products, then Future Natural is about to become your shopping fantasy.

Organic Alcohol Known To Make You Missbehave?

A mag we heart ♥, Missbehave, did a post about this story that Sean Evans of the New York Daily News wrote comparing his hangovers when drinking organic vs traditional alcohol. Inquiring minds want to know, are the hangovers the same? We have tried both versions and frankly after a night of debauchery on the good stuff, we still feel like crap, we still eat a bunch of carbs and we are still totally useless non-functioning members of society the next day. What we can answer for the Missbehave ladies is what’s availble as far as organic jesus juice is concerned.

Our baby girl from oneplusone is all growns up now. We mentioned her fabulous fashion blog recently and love her weekly style contribution at another fave, treehugger.com. She’ll be celebrating her skeetday tomorrow night at Medusa so be sure to shower her with spanks or kisses if you see her. We Heart Ladies Lotto

As a pop-culture junkie and an obsessed and avid blog reader, I spend much of my time in front of the computer looking for green inspiration. A group of ladies who are doing it big is the crew over at Ladies Lotto. This coalition of rad gurlz are all about empowering and supporting their fellow ladies to achieve success in their personal and professional lives.

With Ladies Lotto chapters based out of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and even Canada, these women are taking over and killin’ the game!!
