Excited about hitting this up tonight. From the invite:

These photographs are the story of my trip to Greenland with my good friends from Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Jared Leto went to Greenland on an environmental mission to shoot a video for his band’s single, A Beautiful Lie, and invited me along to take photos.

He came back with an incredible video that focuses on the effect global warming is having on the world’s coldest climates and I came back with the photographs featured in this show.

Although it has only been two years since my trip, the glaciers and icebergs have already changed dramatically. I hope you enjoy the exhibit, but also take time to reflect on the fact that this ice is disappearing at an alarming rate.

Lady Gaga Dons Kermit To Denounce Fur

Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, music, wtf by thuy | Tags: , ,

Never one to shy away from being outrageous, Lady Gaga wore this get up during an interview on a German TV show.

Inevitably, the interview took a turn towards Lady Gaga’s unconventional fashion choices in recent European interviews, specifically a coat made up completely of plush Kermit the Frog puppets.

“The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces,” said Gaga. “I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, ’cause I hate fur and I don’t wear fur. We were all laughing at the house because it looks like a pile of dead Kermits.”

Heath Ledger X Modest Mouse: For The Whales

Posted in animal rights, celeb, charitable causes, in the wild, music, video/media by thuy | Tags: , , ,

King Rat

Before his untimely death, Heath Ledger began directing a video for Modest Mouse’s “King Rat”. Unfortunately he died before the video was completed, and it has been languishing in limbo until now.

The concept of “King Rat” video is based on Ledger’s “vision, brave and unapologetic in its nature [which] marry his love of bold and original music with his impassioned stance against the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place of the coast of Australia each year.” Proceeds from this video’s downloads in its first month of release will go toward Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, an international non-profit organization committed to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.

Watch Ledger’s music video, completed by his associates at the Masses, a violently unabashed commentary on illegal whale hunting.

Dear Huffington Post, You’re Doing It Wrong

Photobucket

I go to Huffington Post to get my daily dose of news and to source stories for my own blog in their “green” section. They posted the story about PETA busting Ringling Bros. in an undercover video beating elephants and tigers. HP normally posts about a range of animal issues, but what I didn’t expect to see was a front page ad for a discount on Ringling Bros. tickets.

Photobucket

C’mon Huffpo. I don’t want to be reminded of that video every time I go to your front page to read Buzzfeed. I know, I know, ad dollars, but seriously? Did you all not see what I saw in that 5 minute video below? Bull hooks being brought down repeatedly on those elephants? Looks like animal cruelty to me.

Please do not support the most horrible show on earth!

F*CK RINGLING BROS!

Posted in animal rights, baby/child, events, in the wild, los angeles, video/media, wtf by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Sorry about being out of commission since being back. Busy with work and prepping for my next shoot with Coco Eco Magazine.

I was just sent this link from Perez Hilton. Ringling Bros. had their show (arrived the day of the Michael Jackson Memorial) in LA at the Staples Center- they had a 4 day run beginning on July 9th.

When I heard that a few of my friends were going to the circus that week, my stomach knotted up. I tried explaining to them that the animals (especially the elephants) get beat and it didn’t make a difference. How could it if you only see the glittery show side and not what goes on behind those curtains and what they go through while traveling between cities and in their training sessions?

PETA vice president Daphna Nachminovitch said that their undercover agent “witnessed these elephants being beaten for no apparent reason.”

Ringling Bros. said they could not comment on the video because it had not been viewed yet, but they did say that “PETA is an animal rights extremist group…We are very proud of our animal care, we are committed to the care of all our animals partly through our conservation programs at the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation…We have 139 years of experience of working with Asian elephants.”

If you support Ringling Bitchasses this is what your money is contributing to.

Disgusting.

FUCK YOU RINGLING BASTARDS!

One pissed off bitch.

It’s on repeat and I must make it stop!

Yeah, don’t ask. It wasn’t anybody’s bday and there was no sexin’ going on (wink.) Thanks limo dude for having the best music selection ever.

Something In The Blood Ain’t Clean

Posted in animal rights, environment, health, in the wild, video/media, wtf by thuy

In Nova Scotia, Canada, there’s a problem with tampon applicators backing up the sewer system and overflowing into the ocean (hello ladies, it’s called a trash can and your brain- use them.)

Recently, a Dutch tampon company Libresse thought it would be a great idea to drop thousands of tampons with little parachutes attached to them out of planes and onto 6 popular Dutch beaches. Why? Well, the manufacturer of Libresse wants the females to put a bloody cork in it (literally) and hit the beaches while Aunt Dot is visiting. Seriously ladies. Why let that pesky little crimson tide between your legs stop you from having fun in the sun?

I just wanna thank the cooter plug maker for adding to our pollution problem. Oh and for contributing to that other thing- when birds and aquatic animals mistake plastics for food, eat them and choke to death..yeah, your marketing scheme was pure genius. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is just a joke right? Well I saw it on Oprah so it must be real!

Went to a herbal store in Chinatown (in LA, it’s more like Vietnam town) with my mom. I was expecting to see some ginseng, cinnamon & ginger. I was not prepared to see this.

Photobucket

Shark fins!!!! At $499 a lb? That’s like 10 fins for 5 bills! I had to ask my mom if that was in US or Vietnamese dollars. She gave me the “Girl are you stupid? We’re in America” side eye.

No wonder why it’s considered a delicacy.

“Finning” refers to the practice of cutting off only the shark fins and discarding the body. Sometimes sharks are dead when they’re pulled into the boats, but often, they’re still alive as their four fins are cut off with a knife. When they’re thrown back into the ocean the sharks either bleed to death, or they drown, because sharks can’t swim without fins, and they need to go forward to get oxygen.

It made me sad to see this. But then I saw something that always puts a smile on my face.

Photobucket

Photobucket

BOOOOOOZE! And then my eyeballs popped outta my head again. WTF?

Mom, are we done here? Lets go. I want to go home and hug my teddy bear and my $40 Costco size bottle of Belvedere.

What have we done to the world
Look what we’ve done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son…
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine…
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores

Never can say goodbye- so for now I thank him for giving us a gazillion memorable party time songs..he definitely made his mark on this earth and will be missed.

The Cove Movie

Posted in animal rights, charitable causes, environment, film/tv/print, food/drink, in the wild, video/media by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

The Cove, which has won honors at many film festivals, including the Audience Award at January’s Sundance Film Festival, chronicles the efforts of Richard O’Barry and the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition to stop the brutal annual slaughter of thousands of dolphins in Japan. The Cove also won the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival and the Newport Beach Film Festival.

“The dolphin slaughter is scheduled to begin again on September 1st,” notes Richard O’Barry, Director of Save Japan Dolphins. “The world-wide exposure of the dolphin slaughter through The Cove movie is going to put a spot-light on this secret environmental disaster. It can’t happen too soon.”

“We believe The Cove will be a game-changer,” stated David Phillips, Director of Earth Island Institute’s International Marine Mammal Project, a members of the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition. “Japan’s flaunting of international agreements and international norms must end — the killing of dolphins and whales is no longer accepted by civilized society.”

Jessica Alba: Activist FAIL

Posted in animal rights, celeb, in the wild by thuy | Tags: , , , , , , ,

Last month I did a post on these posters that have been mysteriously popping up on walls in various cities. The purpose of the guerilla marketing from White Mike is to raise awareness about the dwindling population of great white sharks.

Until now, the person or persons that started this poster plastering campaign has remained a mystery.

Well guess which celeb got busted for putting the posters up in Oklahoma City, over a United Way (oops! that’s a non-profit) poster no less?

Little Ms. Into the Blue herself. She posted posters for a good cause- documented it on a camera (bad move) got heat from United Way and then issued this statement:

I got involved in something I should have had no part of. I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”

Way to go by blaming the people behind the campaign Jess. Judging by your big smile and *hands in the air* pics, it doesn’t look like anyone put a gun to your head or forced the glue into your hands. You know all the sharks are saying: “You’re doing it wrong HONEY!”

As for the real people behind White Mike.. I guess any press is good press.

Woman Pays 10K Ransom for Stolen Dog

Posted in animal rights, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags:

Long story short. Woman leaves her ‘chorkie’ dog in car while eating at restaurant. Comes back to car- realizes car window has been smashed and her beloved dog is gone. Posts up $10,000 reward posters. Deals with a bunch of fakes for 2.5 days but finally gets an email of a picture of her dog. Meets up with the evil peeps, pays the ransom and asks no questions. All is good again.

I love my pup Kobe to death and I would definitely pay 10 G’s to get him back. I’d have to rob someone or do the ho stroll on sunset blvd for a few weeks first but of course it would be totally worth it.

Glad for the happy ending. I’ll now add ‘do not leave Kobe in car’ to my ‘do not leave Kobe tied to poles outside of restaurants or stores’ list. Thanks for making our world a better place dog snatchers!

HOME is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Betrand (photographer of “Earth from Above” book.). The film is entirely composed of aerial shots of various places around Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet.

The movie was released simultaneously on June 5th (World Environmental Day) in cinemas all over the world, on DVD, TV and on YouTube. Released on the same date in 50 countries is a world record for any film release in history. The film is 100% free, and no profits will be made from its release or future showings.

Making this movie was an unusual risk for its financial backer, one of the planet’s biggest retailing conglomerates, France’s PPR SA. PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid PPR, the maker of Gucci handbags and Puma shoes, paid 10 million euros ($20.55 million) of the 12 million euro production budget to create HOME.

Laurent Claquin, senior vice-president of corporate social and environmental responsibility at PPR, said the company took a chance on the film.

“It’s true we’re putting ourselves at risk in a way,” said “We’re not perfect yet. We’re never going to be perfect. But we have a duty to act.”

In May, PPR Chief Executive Francois-Henri Pinaulttold a press conference: “This film commits us not to consume less, but to consume differently.”

The film is narrated in English by Glenn Close, in Spanish by Salma Hayek – also Pinault’s wife – and in 15 other languages.

Pink Thinks Ye Is An Idiot

Posted in animal rights, celeb, fashion, girls we heart, wtf by thuy

Singer-PETA activist Pink is fiery and disgusted about sitting next to Kanye West and hearing him whine about the absence of fur during a Stella McCartney fashion show..

Pink told Australia’s FHM, “Kanye West is the person pissing me off right now. I was at Stella McCartney’s fashion show with the vice president of PETA, Paul McCartney and Kanye.”

“The entire time Kanye was going, ‘They need more fur in this show.’ He just wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot’. There are so many people who are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”

FUCKING DUH YEEZY! SOUNDS LIKE A CERTAIN FASHION INTERN NEEDS TO DO SOME MORE STUDYING!! HOW COULD THE SELF-PROCLAIMED LOUIS VUITTON DON NOT KNOW THAT STELLA MCCARTNEY, PINK, PAUL AND THE HEAD HONCHO OF PETA HATES FUR!?!?

Damn, I hope your eyes are ok. Needed to give Martin Louie King Jr. a taste of his own medicine. If anything, I think I’ve only made myself nauseous typing with the caps-lock on.

Miranda Kerr Is Doing It For The Koalas

Posted in celeb, environment, eye candy, film/tv/print, in the wild, music, sexy ting tings by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Orlando Bloooms lady, Miranda Kerr takes her clothes off, posing for the Australian edition of Rolling Stone magazine’s upcoming “Green Issue”.

In an interview with the magazine, Miranda admits that she has decided to take her kit off to draw public attention to the extinction of koala bears. “It’s a sad thing,” she tells Rolling Stone. “There are only about 100,000 koalas left in Australia. Something like 80 percent of the koalas’ habitat has been destroyed since Europeans arrived in Australia.”

Eye candy for a cause. I ain’t mad.

I Hope The Bull’s OK

Posted in animal rights, in the wild by thuy | Tags: , , , , ,

goredbybull

What’s that you say? What about the matador, Israel Lancho that looks like he’s in agonizing pain while being hoisted several feet in the air with a bull’s horn in his chest? Oh that? First, let’s break down bullfighting.

Few Spanish traditions divide opinion as much as bullfighting. For every bull aficionado willing to defend their art there are ten who see it as just cruelty to animals and want it banned – yet still the practice goes on.

Bullfighting is called a sport, or sometimes even an art. It is neither. It is animal cruelty disguised as entertainment. Ever wonder why the bull never wins? Spectators are led to believe the matadors are actually risking their lives. In reality, the bull has already been crippled and subdued in several ways and doesn’t stand a chance against its opponents.

Several hours before the fight, the bull is kept in a stall, deprived of light and water. They are separated from other bulls. This is traumatic for them as bulls are naturally herd animals. Many bullfighters have reported that the bulls are also beaten and injured prior to being released into the ring. Their horns are also sometimes shaved. This involves sawing off a few inches of the horns. Bulls depend on their horns to help them navigate and shaving impairs their ability to do this. Shaving is illegal, but many get away with it.

Bulls are sometimes stabbed and wounded before being released in the ring. After being released, he may be taunted by a group of humans who will frustrate him by forcing him to run in circles and collide.

Men called picadors approach the exhausted bull on horseback. These men drive lances into the bull’s neck and back, resulting in more injuries and blood loss and disabling him from lifting his neck or head. Picadors are usually not injured. Any injuries inflicted by the confused, exhausted bull are usually to the picador’s horse.

The matador appears next and provokes the injured, dying bull in to weak charges. He will attempt to kill the bull with a sword but it usually only results in injuring him and resulting in more pain and blood loss. During the final stage, an executioner is called in to kill the bull by slashing his spinal cord. This is for the benefit of the audiences, and sometimes the effort is not enough to kill the bull. It’s not uncommon for a tortured, paralyzed, conscious bull to be tied by his horns and dragged from the ring.

So back to my thoughts about the matador…¡Olé! MOTHER FUCKER!!! It’s poetic justice- too bad it doesn’t happen more often.

Lancho is in serious condition and is probably going to live, but I’m pretty sure that poor bull was put to sleep immediately after, just for defending himself. These pictures do not draw an ounce of sympathy from me. If anything, it makes me smile. Be still, my cold, black, barely beating heart.

Haters Of LA- This One’s For You

Posted in los angeles by thuy

“I HATE LA!” Have you ever spewed those words outta your mouth? If so, press play.

I only dislike- we all know hate’s a strong word- the Affliction/Ed Hardy tools, the tanorexic silicone barbies, the lack of rain (hey, we could use a little more) the smog, the traffic and the sorry ass public transpo. Other than that, I fucking love LA! And to those of you that hate it so fucking much- get the fuck out!

I’m sure I’ll be seeing some of you at another shitty fuckin’ pool party under the sun with an open bar this weekend.

And another thing I really love.. the word-FUCKING.

LA Gay Marriage Prop 8 Protest

Posted in Peeps We Rep, equality for all, los angeles, video/media, wtf by thuy | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Check out what Perez, George Takei, Mark Hoppus and others had to say this past Tuesday night about the fight for gay marriage.

Also, watch the video below of another great Keith Olbermann WTF moment on how same sex marriage could jump start the economy. It’s no joke.

I think it’s time to prep for the day WHEN it finally happens. I see a career change in my near future-wedding planner or better yet, green wedding consultant! Or professional wedding crasher. I can already think of numerous invites or job opportunities I would get from my gay friends. It’s on!

I know Reverend Eric Lee says the only way to fight hate is with love but the bitch in me wants to tell all the H8TRS to go FUCK THEMSELVES, in a nice way. The fight continues…

Hugs and kisses.

eco-logical

Eco-LogicalART is a non-profit sister company to Peter Schulberg’s personal recovered element studio, the DejaDesign Gallery. Both entities share his conviction that beautiful objects surround us and only need to be re-envisioned.

With Eco-LogicalART Schulberg takes his theory of creative recovery to ground braking—or rather ground liberating new heights. The gallery’s fine art line features original art painted on recycled billboard vinyl. Tossed into landfills by the ton weekly, this heavy, ink impregnated material is an environmental nightmare. But ECO-LA takes the indestructible nature of the advertising vinyl and turns it into an asset. In fact the art can even hang on an exterior wall.

At 14 by 48 feet it is estimated that over 250,000 people a day will see the free art month long drive-by “exhibit.” To put that in perspective the famed Getty Museum averages about 4000 visitors daily.

The next billboard drop is Saturday June 13th. Go to the site for more info.

Eco-LogicalART is located at 4829 W. Pico Blvd (just east of La Brea) LA, CA, 90019. 310-525-0676

The newest issue of Cocoecomag.com is out now. We shot this story in the desert using dresses from Leila Hafzi and jewelry by Andean Collection and Ten Thousand Villages.

The stunningly beautiful, flowing dresses were perfect for the desert wind. And since May 9th was World Fair Trade Day, we used jewelry that came from companies that practice fair trade.

Thanks again to the amazing team I worked with.
