Proceeds from this charity event will benefit Nourish the Children and Shine On Sierra Leone.
m.a.m.a. e a r t h is the brainchild of Kailani Bayot, a mother of two from O’ahu, HI who now resides in Los Angeles. Kailani has never been short on ideas and she’s pouring all of her creative energy into m.a.m.a. e a r t h.
“We are dedicated to raising awareness and making a change for the better by helping charities raise funds to benefit their causes,” says Kailani. “The concept of m.a.m.a. earth started with bracelets I make using hemp and the natural stone azurite-malachite, which is believed to be a sacred stone that promotes healing and aids in transformation. It has been a natural progression to become a non-profit organization and the bracelets are a wonderful way to raise funds for schools or organizations along with your favorite charity.”
The m.a.m.a. e a r t h red carpet event takes place at Dakota Lounge located at 1026 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica on Thursday June 11th at 8pm. Presale tickets are available at www.dakotalounge.com. Also, watch the video below of another great Keith Olbermann WTF moment on how same sex marriage could jump start the economy. It’s no joke.
I think it’s time to prep for the day WHEN it finally happens. I see a career change in my near future-wedding planner or better yet, green wedding consultant! Or professional wedding crasher. I can already think of numerous invites or job opportunities I would get from my gay friends. It’s on!
I know Reverend Eric Lee says the only way to fight hate is with love but the bitch in me wants to tell all the H8TRS to go FUCK THEMSELVES, in a nice way. The fight continues…

Shepard Fairey To Obama: ADOPT!!
Posted in Peeps We Rep, animal cruelty, animal rights, art, eye candy, film/tv/print, pets by thuy | Tags: adopt, george orwell, mutts like me, obama, shepard faireyI was doing my daily blog run and stopped dead in my screen tracks when I came across this post on my girl Pauline’s blog on Vimby. It’s a poster done by Shep from Obey, for the book “Animal Farm” by Norman Orwell. I don’t know what rock I was under in my teenage years but I never read this book. Now, after reading a summary on it and learning that the characters are pigs, that overtake a farm from their mean owner, I’m running out to Barnes and Nobles and getting myself a copy asap!
Hold up… as I went to the Obey site to link this story to them I almost shit veggie rocks when I saw this recent work of his. FUCK YES!!! ADOPT!!!
We’ve done a few posts on our hopes that Obama picks a shelter dog for his girls. Buying a pet from a pet store or breeder sucks when there are millions of lovable, abandoned animals available in pounds.
Taken from the Obey site, in Fairey’s words:
A MUTT LIKE ME
The day Obama stated his interest in adopting a dog from the shelter was a slightly brighter one for the approximately 7 million adoptable dogs & cats killed each year in this country. The staggering reality is that for each one sold at a pet store or by a breeder, another perfectly worthy one is killed. Our nations shelters are filled to capacity with all kinds of amazing adoptable animals including, as Obama put it, “Mutts like me.”
On the heels of Obama’s comment, I got a call from Pia Salk, an animal advocate who works with North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com. Pia simply asked if I might be willing to collaborate on a way to have my art help these animals.
As most of you know, I’m a big believer in speaking up for all who suffer injustice, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or in this case, species! And I’m all for adopting from the shelter. My wife and I share our home with 2 pooches, George and Weezie, who is a rescue. They are the happy canine siblings to our 2 human daughters.
The image I created for this print reminds me of a dog I had as kid, a mutt named Honey.
We have created a limited edition run of 400 signed and numbered silk-screen prints that will be available at: www.muttslikeme.com. The January sale date will be announced soon and proceeds will go to getting the furry non-partisan U.S. residents, who share our country, saved and into homes through:www.Adoptapet.com
Check out the site and search for adoptable animals in your area or other ways to help.

Kahi Lee: Unlock The Cure
Posted in Peeps We Rep, charitable causes, film/tv/print, girls we heart, home by thuy | Tags: cancer, design on a dime, hgtv, kahi lee, unlock the cureProps to my girl Kahi Lee, a truly talented interior designer and host on HGTV’s “Design on a Dime.”
Kahi has teamed up with Botanist/Orange22 to unveil a new eco-friendly furniture line named “Unlock the Cure,” which benefits the Cancer Research Institute. The line consists of a cocktail table, bench and an end table with a cut out key design.
Kahi’s inspiration:
“I call my design “Unlock the Cure”. Cancer has affected far too many people in my life and I’m committed to doing something about it. The cure is out there, we just need to find the key. The light-reflective and luminous quality of the metallic finish symbolizes hope and optimism.”
Well, I too have a thing for keys..and a thing for being eco-friendly and I, like many, have been affected by a loved one suffering from cancer. Thanks to Kahi, for designing these beautiful pieces to remind us all to keep hope alive in finding a key to the cure.

Pink Cloud Does It Again With Opportunity Green

Party people.
Organic beats provided by Dublab.
Opportunity Green held it’s two day conference at UCLA over the weekend and on Saturday night we got to be a part of the after party thrown by, none other than the event queen herself, Sarah Shewey of Pink Cloud Events.
There were yummy treats provided by some of our favorite eateries such as Leaf Cuisine, Tender Greens and Ciudad. Bevearges full of goodness were served by my friends new company, Barbelles. Hot chicks serving up canned heat is always a nice addition to any soiree. We loved the various stations that were set up for recycling and composting. No forks, plates, cups, or food bits went to waste. This was a party for the conscious.
Afterwards, a handful of peeps headed to Ecco in Hollywood, where they had a special table reserved for Ms. Shewey and her entourage. Environmentally friendly 360 vodka makes dirty dancing and innocent debauchery a lot more fun.
If you watch Planet Green’s Alter Eco show, keep your eye out for Sarah, she’s appeared in a few recent episodes.

Our Voices Will Change Their World
Posted in Peeps We Rep, baby/child, music, politickin' by thuy | Tags: agape, agape childrens choir, change our worldThe Agape Children’s Choir and Little Engine Productions have created a video called “Change My World,” with a non-partisan view, at encouraging voters to take an interest in our children’s future and taking their voices to the polls.
The emphasis of the words is on sending a positive political message while transcending party lines. Fifteen year-old Ayanna Stokes, who joined the choir at age ten, sings the lead vocals. This isn’t the first time Ayanna has used her musical talent in a political arena, as she was also a featured soloist for programs honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Stacy Peralta, an award winning documentary film maker known for such projects as Dogtown & Z Boys andRiding Giants, directed the video. The lyrics for the video, were written by Emmy nominated composer Tree Adams and producer Gina Matthews. Their collaborative goal was to use music as an inspiration, while using the voices of kids, to encourage voters to consider children and their future when they cast their ballots.
I recently attended Agape and pleasantly surprised to witness the children’s choir perform live. They sang, danced and even added in a message about recycling and the environment. Their performance was very inspiring, as is this video.
Do it for the children. Vote.
Thanks to Yosi Sergant for passing this along.

She’s also a fellow greenie and an animal lover so I wasn’t the least bit surprised to find out that she had started an earth, human and animal friendly home furnishings line called Humble.
Humble products are inspired by the environment and respect the environment. All handmade printed designs are assembled in the USA and are 100% organic, vegan and made of sustainable materials. Humble is committed to supporting organic cotton farmers and keeping all products animal free, therefore creating hypo-allergenic, moisture resistant and pesticide free products. All products are biodegradable so they will eventually absorb back into the earth, where they came from.
Printed graphics are Kristie’s original illustrations, hand screen printed with eco-friendly, water-based non-toxic inks that have a soft feel. Humble graphics follow the lines of geometry, animals and color.
Humble pillows are meant to be small, soft pieces of art for your home. Kristie will be expanding the collection into home furnishing textiles and bedding in the near future and I can’t wait to see it.
Handmade. Organic. Made in the USA. Vegan. Sustainable. Supporting farmers. Animal & chemical free. Biodeagradeable. Damn Kristie- gold stars all across the board! Congrats baby girl.

Two things I just read on Disgrasian:
- Asian voters could tip the scales towards Obama in many battleground states.
- Two-thirds of Vietnamese Americans said they support Mr. McCain
Huh? Well at least they’re voting. I was at my local nail salon a while back and when the topic of voting came up, I was horrified to hear many of the technicians say they probably wouldn’t vote because they didn’t know which one of the candidates to trust. Troi oi!

Posted in Peeps We Rep, animal rights, art by jen | Tags: britney spears, evil monito, honey space, meryl smith, paris hilton, peta, rickey kimI saw this image awhile back and it was shocking to say the least.. but shocking in a way that you can’t stop staring at it. I recently came across it again on Rickey Kim’s online magazine Evil Monito, and figured the imagery was too insane not to post.
The piece entitled “excessory baggage” by Meryl Smith was part of a group exhibition at the Honey Space, where curators asked artists to create sculptures that fit the measurement requirements for international carry-on luggage.
Before PETA hunts me down for glorifying this art made with some parts leather (as well as metals, papier mache etc). Let’s try to accept the message being delivered.. that pets, no matter how cute and pocket-sized, are not accessories. Paris? Britney? Are you listening??

Organic Alcohol Known To Make You Missbehave?
Posted in Peeps We Rep, food/drink, girls we heart by thuy | Tags: hangover, missbehave, organic alcohol, prince charles, vodkaA mag we heart ♥, Missbehave, did a post about this story that Sean Evans of the New York Daily News wrote comparing his hangovers when drinking organic vs traditional alcohol. Inquiring minds want to know, are the hangovers the same? We have tried both versions and frankly after a night of debauchery on the good stuff, we still feel like crap, we still eat a bunch of carbs and we are still totally useless non-functioning members of society the next day. What we can answer for the Missbehave ladies is what’s availble as far as organic jesus juice is concerned.
- square one vodka
- vodka 14
- tru organic vodka
- juniper green organic london dry gin
- highland harvest organic scotch whiskey (stamp of approval from Prince Charles)
- organic wine: too many to list but you can find them all here
- organic beer: ditto as above but click on this dude’s blog, his organic beer list is hella long

Now they’ve taken things one step further. If you bring in a pair of your previously owned jeans, Barneys CO-OP will recycle them and give you 20% off your next pair. Get in there soon because the offer is only valid from August 11th through the 25th.
Also, if you received a copy of the Barneys Co-op catolog in the mail, check out our girl Emily’s new denim line Current/Elliott featured on the cover. Congrats!!

DCMA x Obama x Hope
Posted in Peeps We Rep, celeb, politickin', shopping by jen | Tags: clothing, dcma, good charlotte, hope, obama, storeAfter having their website crash awhile back from so many hits after a mention on the infamous celebrity blog, Perez Hilton, the DCMA boys are at it again. This time they’ve created a dope tee reppin’ our main homeboy Barack Obama.
DCMA is the brainchild of Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte. What originally started as a t-shirt line has expanded into hats, belts, jewelry etc. You can cop their graffiti inspired gear online or hit up their new store at 645 N. Martel Ave, Los Angeles, 90036
Note: Check out our boy Reez at The Gluttony (he also holds it down for DCMA, Agenda and now this.. damn, homeboy is killin’ it!)

Girls We Heart: Karen Ranoa
Posted in Peeps We Rep, events, girls we heart by thuyAloha to our favorite Green Grown And Sexy gal. Last night a large party of people bid farewell to a dear friend to many, Karen Ranoa. She is following her heart and moving to the Bay. Dave, you’re one lucky guy. I fell in love with her the first time I met her and I’m sure it’s the same for anyone else that has had the good fortune of crossing paths with this hapa beauty. She has compassion for animals, loves planet earth, owns a Prius, volunteers, and has the most infectious smile and personality you’ll ever come by. As quoted from her myspace page, “ALOHA, I’m a 5’13″ Hapa-Hula-Girl-House-Head-Hippie-Leo-Dragon-Vegetarian-Green-Tree-Hugger-Wahine, I aint no gas guzzlin’ whore, & everyday is the best day of my life!” Shout out to her parents for slapping skin and creating her & her sister Julie, many moons ago.
I’ll always have Karen to thank for sparking my interest in using reusable bags when shopping, as well as turning me onto Earthlings, a movie that changed my life for the better. She is my she-ro and will be sorely missed. She always says she’s Green Grown and Sexy’s number one fan but in actuality, it’s the other way around. You have been a big inspiration to me Karen and for that I thank you. P.S. the rest of your gift bag will be arriving in the mail soon.
Farewell to Laurie, Soosan, Andria, Nicole, Tito & Kelly as well. Damn, LA just lost a handful of beautiful angels. Good luck to you all. xx

We Love Us Some Stella McCartney
Posted in Peeps We Rep, fashion, shopping by thuyA few months back, I had a phone conversation with my friend Shima, another fellow hapa, green girl. She schooled me on switching over to natural, organic bath and beauty products. Do you know about phthalates, sodium laureth sulfates and parabens? I highly suggest you click the links and ‘edumucate’ yourselves.
We also discussed the lack of eco-concious, affordable, fashion forward clothing & accessory lines. Well, Shima had the chance to meet and chat with the gracious, vegan goddess, Ms. McCartney, and she suggested she do a collabo with Matt & Nat to produce a lower price point, vegan handbag line. Shout out to Shima for sending the pic and for putting the birdy in Stella’s ear. I can guarantee you she’ll have half of LA’s fashionistas jumping for joy if this comes to fruition. We’ll be keeping our ears to the streets.

Boys We Heart: Raymond Roker (Krishna)
Posted in Peeps We Rep, boys we heart, environment, food/drink, reduce/reuse/recycle, sustainability by thuyYesterday was my good friend Raymond’s birthday and I was determined to make it a green celebration. He’s the founder of one of my favorite publications, Urb magazine, a long-time vegetarian, a passionate animal lover and an all around great guy. I spent a good part of my day on a mission to find him the perfect eco-friendly gift. I was ecstatic when I found this t-shirt since Raymond is known to bike around town. My love for Sigg bottles run so deep that I’ve decided to gift them from now on in the hopes that the person receiving it will give up water bottles too.
For dinner we opted for Akasha, (9543 Culver Blvd, Culver City, 90232) a newly opened restaurant in Culver City that has a very high standard of sustainability. Their bar highlights fresh juice cocktails and organic spirits, beer and wine. Their kitchen sources from farms, ranches and fisheries that are guided by the principles of sustainability. Some of the materials used throughout the restaurant are natural ceramic tiles made from sand, reclaimed barn wood and local limestone.
We indulged in great conversation over a bottle of organic wine and enjoyed our meals knowing that this restaurant was doing their part to make the earth a better place. Click here to see a list of all their incredible green practices.
Happy Birthday Raymond! xx
