This is poodle art and apparently it’ all the craze. Contestants have two hours to pimp primp their dogs out with child safe hair coloring, shears and accessories. According to all the owners, dogs love humiliation attention and don’t mind the prep time or what it takes to be turned into these AMAZING pieces of living art. It’s amazing to me that their dogs tell them so.

Ok, I’m not gonna call this cruelty, but I am gonna call it CA-RAY-ZY. As in the owners of these dogs gotta be bat-shit crazy. You know the type: moms that put their five year olds in pageants to endure fake hair, fake tans, fake nails, Tammy Faye Baker make-up, bedazzled Club Cheeta-approved outfits and endless hours of rehearsing bump-n-grind dances while batoning and never breaking a smile.

Woman Pays 10K Ransom for Stolen Dog

Posted in animal rights, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags:

Long story short. Woman leaves her ‘chorkie’ dog in car while eating at restaurant. Comes back to car- realizes car window has been smashed and her beloved dog is gone. Posts up $10,000 reward posters. Deals with a bunch of fakes for 2.5 days but finally gets an email of a picture of her dog. Meets up with the evil peeps, pays the ransom and asks no questions. All is good again.

I love my pup Kobe to death and I would definitely pay 10 G’s to get him back. I’d have to rob someone or do the ho stroll on sunset blvd for a few weeks first but of course it would be totally worth it.

Glad for the happy ending. I’ll now add ‘do not leave Kobe in car’ to my ‘do not leave Kobe tied to poles outside of restaurants or stores’ list. Thanks for making our world a better place dog snatchers!

The thought of my dog Kobe chilling in the same room while I’m getting my culo slapped or my chocha licked gives me the heebie jeebies.

Well someone took my worst nightmare and started a blog showing screen shots of people doing gross sexy times with their pets in the room. The identities of the sickos are colored over but I still can’t help but to give a major side eye to the photoshopped horndogs!

Go to Heavy Petting Tumblr to make your eyes bleed see the rest. And now I’m off to find a basket of baby bunnies to cuddle with.

Last month, we posted about dog in need of a home. We were happy to learn that someone took him in within days and that was with the help of people passing it along on their facebook pages, blogs and emails. We’re hoping we can do the same for this sweet boxer which my friend found.

Here’s the description:

Lost Dog
Found: March 15th 4am in Boyle Heights

AWESOME Dog needs a home.. LA AREA. At the moment he is at the vet getting cleaned up..he has a mouth full of rotten teeth (being removed) and some skin/eye/ear irritation all from lack of care.(772.00 dollers later) the Vet said he is 5-7 years old… a pure bred boxer..and the MOST WELL TRAINED dog I have ever seen…follows close behind on walks.. and seems to completely ignore other dogs..no aggression or barking whatsoever. He has been house broken and sits when told..and is fine with riding in the car.

If you are in the LA area or know someone that is, and they are looking for a true companion..please pass this on…

We want to find him a home, can you help?

Another Dumb Human Tattoos Their Pet

Posted in animal rights, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Still dazed after being anaesthetised for three hours, a pedigree pet is hauled upright to show off its new tattoo. The controversial “body enhancement” was carried out on Mickey – a rare Canadian Hairless breed also known as a Sphynx cat.

His female owner was said to be delighted with the Tutankhamun design inked on to his chest at a tattoo parlour.

She said: “I wanted something new and different for the times we live in.” But horrified animal rights campaigners slammed the sick fad in Moscow as barbaric – and fear it could catch on among wealthy pet owners in the West.

An RSPCA spokesman said: “We are totally against using animals for purely cosmetic reasons just on the owner’s whim. Clearly the animal has no say in the matter.”

This is horrific not in that a tattoo is so harmful, because animals have been getting tattooed for identification for years (obviously not on an elaborate and ridiculous scale like this tat), but for the reasoning behind it. So it’s a week of itching and pain afterwards for the cat, after a relatively risky procedure. Not a big deal if you look at it from that perspective, but it is a big deal when you consider the fact that it’s bordering on abusive because there is no practical purpose for it. Putting a tattoo on a cat, or any animal for the sole purpose of stroking one’s ego is stupid and wrong

The owner should have bought herself one of Mattel’s “Totally Stylin’ Tattoos” Barbie Doll instead.

I’m nursing a hangover right now and this story just made it worse. My head can’t take this. I need to go hug a kitty.

Half Baked Idiot Traps Kitten In Bong To Calm It Down

Posted in animal cruelty, pets, wtf by thuy | Tags: , ,

Here’s how Lancaster County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bill Jarrett described what happened. Jarrett said it started when deputies were called to a home on a disturbance Sunday night.

When deputies arrived Jarrett said they talked with the owner of the home and his grandson, Acea Schomaker. Jarrett said Schomaker had a drug warrant for his arrest and when deputies went to his bedroom to arrest him they found him smoking marijuana through a homemade bong.

As they were arresting him Jarrett said the bong moved on its own. One of the deputies opened the 12 inch by 6 inch container and found a one year old kitten trapped inside. Jarrett said Schomaker told deputies the cat was out of control and he wanted to calm him down. Schomaker was arrested for the warrant, possession of marijuana and animal neglect/abuse. The bong is made of Plexiglas and is about the size of shoebox.

“[It was] taped shut so the cat was exposed to large amounts of marijuana smoke,” Jarrett said.

Bob Downey with the Capital Humane Society said they’re checking the kitten for lung damage. He said the kitten appears to be a little raspy, “but (it’s) certainly a treatable condition and it won’t prevent us from being able to find a new home for the cat once it becomes our property.”

Below is a picture of the douchebag and the 6 month old kitten.

WhyTF Is This Dog Riding A Bike?

The part where he’s getting on the bike and they pan onto his ass as he takes a seat is not right. Can’t this poor Dalmation chase balls, sniff butts, lick faces, eat, sleep, bark and walk like dogs are meant to do?

Please Spread The Word For Daisy The Boxer!!

Posted in pets by thuy

Ya’ll know I have a soft spot for Boxer breeds, especially white ones. Although I would love for Kobe to have a buddy, I can’t take in another dog because we live in an apartment. Please, please, please spread the word. Daisy only has a few more days. Also, please listen to Bob Barker and get your pets neutered and spayed! Overpopulation in the pounds is why these animals only have a limited time before being euthanized.

Meet “Daisy” (A244279), 4 year-old spayed boxer/pit mix with special needs. Please network & cross-post!

Daisy (A244279) is a beautiful all-white, 65 pound boxer/pit mix at the Pasadena Humane Society. She has been at the shelter since January 6th with very little interest. Daisy appears to be deaf, or at least has some degree of hearing loss.

Daisy has been in our “step-up” program where volunteers can walk her around the park. They say that she is interested in squirrels, but is easily redirected with a “sit” command, which she knows perfectly. She loves just sitting next to someone and receiving attention.

Daisy did very well in her dog-to-dog evaluation; she plays very much like a boxer, but was totally receptive to the other dog when he had enough of her energy.

Daisy is a really sweet girl, but she has been overlooked here at PHS for far too long. We have been asked to get a commitment for this lovely girl by February 27th.

If you are able to rescue or adopt this special sweetheart, please contact the Pasadena Humane Society adoptions office at (626) 792-7151 x 137, Kevin at x 119, Mary at x 121, or Ute at x 117. Or email Kevin at mobile [at] phsspca [dot] org Mary at adoptsup [at] phsspca [dot] org or Ute at ute [at] phsspca [dot] org.

Pet Chimp Killed After Attack

Posted in animal cruelty, news, pets by thuy | Tags: , ,

A 200-pound chimpanzee kept as a pet and once used in commercials was shot and killed by police after it mauled a woman visiting its owner and later cornered an officer in his cruiser, authorities said. Stamford police Lt. Richard Conklin said the injured woman was hospitalized late Monday in “very serious” condition at Stamford Hospital.

The 15-year-old chimpanzee’s owner and two officers also were hurt. Police said they had no idea why the chimpanzee, named Travis, attacked the woman as she got out of her car to visit the animal’s owner, Sandra Herold. Conklin said Herold wrestled with the animal, then ran inside to call 911.

“She retrieved a large butcher knife and stabbed her longtime pet numerous times in an effort to save her friend, who was really being brutally attacked,” Conklin said.

When will people learn that wild animals cannot be domesticated? It’s like Chris Rock said when one of Siegfried and Roy’s tiger mauled Roy. ‘Everybody’s mad at the tiger. “That tiger went crazy!” That tiger didn’t go crazy…that tiger went TIGER.’

Shepard Fairey To Obama: ADOPT!!

Posted in Peeps We Rep, animal cruelty, animal rights, art, eye candy, film/tv/print, pets by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

I was doing my daily blog run and stopped dead in my screen tracks when I came across this post on my girl Pauline’s blog on Vimby. It’s a poster done by Shep from Obey, for the book “Animal Farm” by Norman Orwell. I don’t know what rock I was under in my teenage years but I never read this book. Now, after reading a summary on it and learning that the characters are pigs, that overtake a farm from their mean owner, I’m running out to Barnes and Nobles and getting myself a copy asap!

Hold up… as I went to the Obey site to link this story to them I almost shit veggie rocks when I saw this recent work of his. FUCK YES!!! ADOPT!!!

We’ve done a few posts on our hopes that Obama picks a shelter dog for his girls. Buying a pet from a pet store or breeder sucks when there are millions of lovable, abandoned animals available in pounds.

Taken from the Obey site, in Fairey’s words:

A MUTT LIKE ME

The day Obama stated his interest in adopting a dog from the shelter was a slightly brighter one for the approximately 7 million adoptable dogs & cats killed each year in this country. The staggering reality is that for each one sold at a pet store or by a breeder, another perfectly worthy one is killed. Our nations shelters are filled to capacity with all kinds of amazing adoptable animals including, as Obama put it, “Mutts like me.”

On the heels of Obama’s comment, I got a call from Pia Salk, an animal advocate who works with North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com. Pia simply asked if I might be willing to collaborate on a way to have my art help these animals.

As most of you know, I’m a big believer in speaking up for all who suffer injustice, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or in this case, species! And I’m all for adopting from the shelter. My wife and I share our home with 2 pooches, George and Weezie, who is a rescue. They are the happy canine siblings to our 2 human daughters.

The image I created for this print reminds me of a dog I had as kid, a mutt named Honey.

We have created a limited edition run of 400 signed and numbered silk-screen prints that will be available at: www.muttslikeme.com. The January sale date will be announced soon and proceeds will go to getting the furry non-partisan U.S. residents, who share our country, saved and into homes through:www.Adoptapet.com

Check out the site and search for adoptable animals in your area or other ways to help.

Broccoli Cat vs. Spaghetti Cat

Posted in pets by thuy | Tags: , , ,

“Spaghetti cat” was all the rage in 08. You know, the cat who was trained by it’s owner to eat spaghetti, cat food and ice cream by having a fork or chopsticks tied to it’s paw?

Faye, the owner seems sweet and with good intention but she’s definitely got crazy on the brains. Seriously, who sings to their cat and does a cleanup sesh before a sit down dinner?

Well, now it’s 09 and I say spaghetti cat is out and broccoli kitten is in! Veggies rule!

Pierced Kittens For Sale WTF???

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, pets by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

File this under: Dumbass lady missing sensitivity chip needs to get her brain checked.

An unnamed Pennsylvania women was busted for trying to sell “Gothic kittens” with neck, ear and tail piercings on eBay. Animal Protection officers were tipped off after a listing appeared on a website under the title “pure black, tailless, pierced, gothic kitten.” The seller was asking for $400 per animal.

The woman, who had a pet grooming business in the basement of her home, is expected to face charges. I’m sorry but she needs to be beat upside the head with a recycled vibrator. I can’t wait for them to release her name/pic so I can put her ass on blast.

It’s too early to hear of all this fuckery. This story makes me want to go on a Sunday afternoon, organic Bloody Mary binge. Mmm.. Bloody Mary’s.

The thumbnail pictures below were the actual flix used on the site, showing the 3 month old kitten with two 14-gauge ear piercings and a “submission ring” through the back of its neck.

UPDATE: Here’s video with the story and her company is called: Pawside Parlor. I’m sure her business is going to shrink thanks to this.

But I am loving this collar from Muzzle-Tov. I showed it to Kobe and he gave it a two paws up too, so I think we’re going to have to get him one.

Raymond, thanks for the fashion cue. I believe that’s a first.

BTW, Both Daddy and Kobe are rescue dogs. If you plan on getting a pet, please help save a life and choose from a rescue instead of a pet store or breeder.

Population Control

Posted in animal rights, celeb, pets by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

The numbers are staggering! Studies show that one female dog and her descendants can produce as many as 67,000 dogs in six years. In seven years, a single unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens. Sadly, the majority of these animals ultimately meet an untimely death.

Unwanted and abandoned, many do not survive the harsh conditions of life on the streets. The millions of animals who end up in shelters only stand a 50% chance of being adopted. The rest are euthanized. Tragically, most of these poor creatures would have made wonderful companions – but they ran out of time.

Effective spaying and neutering can dramatically reduce the number of perfectly adoptable companion animals who are currently being euthanized in shelters across the United States. With fewer dogs and cats competing for adoption into loving forever homes, their chances of survival improve immensely.

Banksy Will You Marry Me?

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, art, eye candy, pets by thuy | Tags: ,

Banksy has opened a faux pet shop in New York called The Village Pet Store And Charcoal Grill. It’s his first official exhibition in NY and his first project using animatronics, moving away from his stencil and street art approach.

Here’s a quote from Banksy on the Wooster Collective website.. “New Yorkers don’t care about art, they care about pets. So I’m exhibiting them instead. I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming. I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. If its art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art”

In one exhibit, a pair of chicken nuggets with legs dip themselves in sauce as a rooster looks on from a doghouse. Another shows fish sticks swimming in a fish bowl. There’s also an adorned rabbit beautifying herself with an assortment of cosmetics in front of a vanity mirror. We all know how rabbits love to be tested on for makeup. My favorite is the sleeping leopard that is actually a strategically placed fake fur coat.

It’s located at 89 7th Avenue (between West 4th and Bleeker) in Greenwich Village and is open every day from 10 am to midnight, showing until October 31st. If you can’t make it, videos of the animatronics can be seen on the show’s website. I’ve posted several of them in the post below. This story was too good for just one!

To my friends and readers in NY, if you go to the installation, can you pretty please grab me a business card from the store? xx

Thank you Lexie!

High-Rolling Chihuahuas

I need to offset the the depressing post below. I’ve never been a big chihuahua lover, but these ones melted my heart. The pups were born with a congenital defect that left them without front legs. They were rescued from a puppy mill by the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY on Long Island, which is the world’s largest no-kill pet adoption center and is home to many special needs pets.

Donors contributed 1k for custom aluminum-frame scooters for the pups in January. Before that, the dogs were able to hop and walk on their hind legs. They have since been adopted by Donna Imhof who works as a veterinary technician at North Shore. Truly amazing.

Oops I Pooped

The first step in responsible pet ownership is to adopt man’s best friend from a animal shelter or rescue organization. Pets from pets stores are bred in puppy mills, and supporting these horrific establishments is a big no-no.

The next step in being a responsible pet owner is to be as “green” as possible. This means using a biodegradable pooper-scooper bag for your dog and eco-friendly cat litter for your cat.

Check out Oops I Pooped biodegradeable bags for doggie clean-ups. They are heat and moisture resistant, come in a discrete dark black in color and have convenient tie-handles.

The folks over at Swheat Scoop have created an eco-friendly litter for kitties. It is natural wheat litter, made without clays and chemicals and is fragrance-free as well as biodegradable. Fido and Fifi will thank you!!

The Best Rescue Shelter Ever

Posted in pets by thuy | Tags: , , , , , , ,

Speaking of Talking Heads…watch and listen. Lynea Lattanzio lives on six acres and runs an amazing, no cage, no kill sanctuary called Animal Kingdom The Cat House on the Kings, located 4 hours north of Los Angeles. There are hundreds of animals on her property at any given time. She claims she has cared for an estimated 16,000 animals since she opened in 1992. This is not your average crazed cat lady. Seriously, press the play button

So many people get pets not understanding that having one is a full time responsibility. Animals need love, nurturing, shelter, food and many of the same things that we do in life. It is like having a child. So, if you’re not ready to bring in a new family member, please don’t get a pet. If you do, get one from a rescue. Pet stores=Puppy mills=bad. And of course, make sure you spay and neuter your loved one.

Haute Dog Couture

Somehow, between the wrap up of the Olympics and the anticipation of the upcoming DNC, I overlooked the 2008 Pet Fashion Week that took place in NY over the weekend. I’ve never been one to dress my dog up in clothes or ridiculous booties but with this years focus on going green and natural, I was interested in seeing what the exhibitors brought for the four legged models.

I think it’s great that there are more chemical free animal bath products coming out on the market. I’m switching up the toxic brands I’ve used on myself for natural alternatives, why wouldn’t I do the same for my dog?

Ditto with organic toys. I’ve recently started to think of what kind of scary chems are on the toys we’ve bought for Kobe over the years. Organic dog food? I’m all for it. From now on, it’s only the best for Kobe, well, except for any high end, natural fabric, pooch threads.

Thanks Angela! xx

Viewers follow the journeys of four of the most challenging dogs — Cherry, Meryl, Denzel, and Georgia — as Dogtown’s team of experts works to help them overcome their violent pasts and live happier, healthier lives.

PETA Protects Pit Bulls

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, pets by jen | Tags: , ,

If you can get through this article without shedding a tear or at the very least getting a lump in your throat, then you are a definitely a stronger person than me. The picture alone puts me over the top, having owned a gentle, lovable, loyal pit bull myself. In a nutshell in December 2006 in Windsor, North Carolina, PETA fieldworkers were called in to investigate a report from neighbors of 3 starved pitbulls (Buck, Mylie and Roscoe).

Upon arriving at the property, PETA workers found all 3 dogs dead, still on chains, mere skeletons covered by skin. They had no bedding or body fat to cover them from the freezing winter temperatures. The dogs’ owner, Walter Overton, showed no remorse and admitted to having known the dogs were sick and suffering at least 4-5 weeks prior to their death, and not having fed them in the week leading up to their death.

PETA worked with local law enforcement to bring charges of animal cruelty against Overton. In a county that does not usually pursue such cases, Overton was convicted and was sentenced to jail time, fines, court costs and probation. The best part about the conviction is that Overton is forbidden to own or harbor animals in the future.

Mia & Max Need A Home

Posted in pets by thuy

My friend, who is a mami to a newborn is moving soon and she needs to find a home for her two charming cats that she cannot bring with her. Taking them to a shelter is not an option, so if you know anyone that may be interested, please pass this along.

I can *personally* vouch for these *amazing* felines. Mia is friendly with fluffy pants and will come right to you and see what’s good. Jules is laid back and welcomes your affection but might not leave the couch to get it, no offense, he’s chill like that. They are brother and sister and are 4 years old. They are not rambunctious, smelly, or annoying cats! Won’t you kick it with these kitties in your humble home? They are animal and kid friendly, as well as litter trained. Please contact me through our “contact us” section and I will give you the contact info.

Boys We Heart: Joaquin Phoenix

This Golden Globe and Grammy Award winning actor, director, producer and social activist makes my heart go pitty pat. On Jan 2nd, 2008, I fell head over heels for Joaquin after watching a movie called “Earthlings.” It wasn’t his dreamy blue eyes or the sexy scar above his lip that did me in because he doesn’t even appear in the film. It was his voice. Over the course of two years, Joaquin worked on the narration for EARTHLINGS which is a feature length documentary about humanity’s absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called “non-human providers.”

With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, EARTHLINGS uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit.

I commend Joaquin for being the voice to the ones that do not have one. It was a rude awakening for me, but one that was needed and as my friend Raymond said recently, ” I would rather embrace truth than hide from it.” You don’t have to turn vegan or stop wearing leather, but if you watch this movie it may open your eyes to what you have been putting in and on your body as well as the injustice these animals are served for our own pleasures and comfort. I bought the DVD so I can lend it to friends that are interested in watching it, but it is also available to watch online here.

Thanks Karen, once again. xx

Shame On You World Kennel USA!

Posted in animal rights, pets by thuy | Tags: , ,

Yesterday, hundreds of dogs were rescued from terrible living conditions from a puppy mill in Palmdale, CA. Kcal News went into a pet store, located in Korea Town, where the owner of the shop claimed the dogs were NOT from a breeder, but rather, they had been raised on a ranch where the pups got to run around freely. That’s some big, tall storytelling because the puppies had actually been kept in stacked cages and were from the World Kennel USA- You can’t follow the link because they shut it down.

Dogs bred in puppy mills are usually kept in cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, and are almost always without adequate food, water or veterinary care. Just recently Oprah did a feature story on puppy mills and the tears were flowing. Please, if you’re looking to get a pet, there are several places to go to find ones IN NEED of a home. My sister got our dog, Kobe from the Boxer Rescue and we couldn’t have asked for a more loyal, loving, perfect companion.

If you’re interested in adopting any of the puppies that were rescued this week click here, and remember what Bob Barker said at the end of every Price Is Right, “Please folks, remember to get your pets spayed and neutered.” He said that religiously, 5 days a week, over the course of 28 years! Now that’s devotion.
