Meat Was Murder For Moz At Coachella

Posted in animal cruelty, boys we heart, celeb, events, food/drink, music by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

The video clip above is of Morrissey walking off the stage during his set at Coachella because the smell of cooking meat offended him.

Morrissey gave his quote of the year at Coachella just before he walked off the stage during his song “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others”: “I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it’s human,” he said, smelling the barbeque sold by festival vendors.

To his credit, Moz did return to the stage and continue his set, giving the explanation that “the smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn’t bear it.”

Morrissey usually has a strict ban on meat products at his gigs, but at festivals, anything goes.

Homie is SERIOUS about his hatred for meat. I don’t blame him. The smell of seafood makes me want to puke through my nostrils.

In other news, he was set to play the next night in my old stomping grounds of San Francisco. He cancelled his show only to be seen later chilling at the DNA Lounge. Oh that Mozzers, always so dramatic. We wouldn’t have it any other way. But I would have been PISSED as hell if I was supposed to be attending that show and he cancelled!

Posts will be light until the beginning of next week. I’ve decided it’s going to be too difficult to drunk blog while basking under the sun at pool parties and going to see Public Enemy and The Cure. Party time! Excellent!

On a side note, please check out the Coachella website to read about the EnergyFACTory and TRASHed.

In an effort to cut back on plastic bottle waste, there will be 3 stations throughout the grounds offering the following:

  • Free drinking fountains – 3 locations throughout the venue, please see map
  • Bring your own container – it must be completely empty to enter the festival (from the main entrance or any camping areas). No glass, metal and no camel packs. You can fill up at the free drinking fountains or purchase cold filtered water for $1 per filling. 32oz maximum container allowed in.
  • Purchase a $10 plastic 24oz water container and receive free cold filtered water all weekend.
There are 3 refill locations located inside the venue, along with another in camping. You can purchase containers at each of these locations along with the merchandise tent and the general store in camping. Please see the map for locations or ask a festival staff member.
I don’t know why they changed it up but when my friend originally sent me this info, they were offering the metal Sigg-like containers. Now there is a note saying that they are not allowed to sell the metal water bottles. Boo. Plastic is plastic but I guess it’s better than hella thrown out water bottles.

Thanks Leilani!

Kanye X Guru

Posted in celeb, food/drink, music, organic by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Guru energy drinks are organic, low in calories and 100% natural.

I would have never guessed it but apparently Kanye is going to be creating his very own flavor for the brand.

From Kanye’s press release: “I express myself through music, fashion, art, and design, and that’s why I am excited to collaborate with Guru; because the brand values what I value, and I can put what inspires me into this new product.”

ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS, IF I DRINK THIS, WILL IT MAKE ME WANT TO EXPRESS MYSELF IN ALL CAPS LIKE KANYE?

But this confuses me. I know it’s made out of recycled paperboard..but can I toss it in the recycle bin now that I’ve finished the cookies off? I don’t think I can. Anyone know the answer???

BTW, Trefoils with rice milk= ecstasy! I had to contain myself from buying more than one box.

Ode is an independent magazine about the people and ideas that are changing the world.

Sometimes it’s difficult to see beyond the war, poverty, exploitation and pollution that the mainstream media use to fill our view of the world. But there is more to life. There are other stories to report. Stories of countless initiatives being launched around the globe by people devoted to justice, respect and equality. Stories that bridge the gap between thinking and doing, between rage and hope, and the painful gap between the rich and poor – and thus build peace and sustainability.

That is the news that Ode promises to deliver. By reading Ode you connect to a network of positive change and inspiration. Ode points the way to knowing better, doing better and feeling better.

Ode publishes ‘the stories that are different from the ones we are brainwashed to believe’ (Arundhati Roy). Ode challenges us and invites us to change. We realise that change starts with information. We can only make a choice to change things for the better when we learn how it can be done. Similarly, we can only change our behaviour when we understand the harmful effects of what we do.

Ode teaches and inspires us, helps us see how every one of us can contribute to a more just and sustainable world.

About two dozen elementary school students helped first lady Michelle Obama break ground on the first day of spring for a garden on the White House grounds.

The 1,100-square-foot garden, the first of its kind since Eleanor Roosevelt planted a victory garden during World War II, will grow dozens of vegetables, berries and herbs.

The collection of crops, a wish list from White House kitchen staff, will include lettuces, squash, fennel, rhubarb, cucumbers and sweet and hot peppers. White House chefs will use the produce to prepare meals for the family and for official functions, and some of the produce will be donated to Miriam’s Kitchen, a soup kitchen near the White House.

There will also be a beehive.

“We’re going to try to make our own honey here as well,” Obama told the fifth-graders from Bancroft Elementary School in Washington before they got to work on Friday.

The students will be brought back to the White House next month to help with the planting, and after that to help harvest and cook some of the produce in the mansion’s kitchen. The first harvest is expected by late April.

With the garden, Obama initiated a public campaign to help Americans better understand where their food comes from.

I think I’ve made it clear how I feel about Obama, but just to let ya’ll in on a lil’ secret, I crush on Michelle too.

Green Tip: Buy Organic

Posted in environment, food/drink, green tips, health, organic, veggie love by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

It’s common sense; organic food is good food. Good to eat, good for the environment, good for the small-scale farmers and farm workers who produce it. By the year 2000, the USDA estimates that half of all U.S. farm products will come from only 1% of the farms. The EPA says that agriculture is responsible for 70% of the pollution to the country’s rivers and streams caused by chemicals, erosion, and animal waste runoff. Organic farming may be one of the last ways to keep both ecosystems and rural communities healthy and alive.

Organic food doesn’t contain toxins like pesticides, heavy metals, dangerous industrial chemicals (for example, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives). And everything in it is natural: it’s real food, not “Frankenfood” created in a laboratory for profit regardless of the fact that genetically modified, synthetic foods have massive, well-known health hazards

White House Chef Thinks Green And Local

Posted in boys we heart, food/drink, politickin' by thuy | Tags: , , , , ,

And homeboy is my new flavor of the week! Read more about him below while I go research how I can volunteer at his soup kitchen.

Dinners at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue might be a little greener these days: the new White House assistant chef, Sam Kass, is an environmentally conscious University of Chicago graduate who founded a home cooking service that focuses on ingredients from local farms.

Kass, 28, the Obama family’s personal chef in Chicago, will assist White House executive chef Cristeta Comerdord, a holdover from the Bush White House. Kass, who grew up in Chicago, trained at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Europe before going to work at Avec, a Chicago wine bar that specializes in Mediterranean food.

Avec chef-owner Paul Kahan has said, “The cool thing about Sam is that he’s very active, very involved with issues that relate to food. His goal has always been to improve the world from a food standpoint.”

After leaving Avec, Kass founded Inevitable Table, which according to the Web site promotes “a healthy lifestyle that focuses on the quality and flavor of food to encourage good eating habits.”

“Veggie Love” PETA’s Banned Superbowl Ad

Posted in food/drink, sexy ting tings by thuy | Tags: , , , ,

NBC bans PETA’s ad from Super Bowl because of its explicit sexual content. Here is a list of reasons why, given by the peacock network:

  • licking pumpkin
  • touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli
  • pumpkin from behind between legs
  • rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin
  • screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)
  • asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina
  • licking eggplant
  • rubbing asparagus on breast
Um ok. I don’t know about ya’ll but when I fantasize hear about women rubbing their lady parts with veggies, I picture the veggies below. Not a damn stalk of asparagus or a pumpkin.. Thanksgiving desert will never be the same for me again.
Ok, not this one but I had to throw it in.

Pambo: This One’s For You Paul!!

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, celeb, eye candy, food/drink by thuy | Tags: , ,

Pam Anderson by David LaChapelle

You won’t find Pamela Anderson’s release at your local multiplex. The former Baywatch star and longtime animal advocate gave her voice for this video “Kentucky Fried Cruelty,” an undercover exposé blowing the whistle on the cruel treatment of animals at KFC’s factory farm and slaughterhouse suppliers. The video details just how horribly KFC treats chickens. Birds are so crippled that they can’t even walk, live birds are forced into tanks of scalding-hot water while completely conscious and able to feel pain, and Moorefield, W.Va., slaughterhouse workers kill birds by slamming them against the wall and stomping on them.

Thanks for the kind words Pauly boo-boo. Press play. It’ll make you feel better. xx

Oh and for those of you that have weak stomachs or don’t like to see violence- don’t press play.

Free Food At Whole Foods??

Posted in food/drink by jen | Tags:

Green grocery mecca, Whole Foods, has got some ‘splainin to do to John Schultz, an employee who was fired for trying to aprehend a shoplifter. The cause for his dismissal was for “touching” the shoplifter in the process of the citizen’s arrest. He grabbed the man’s jacket and put his leg behind the shoplifters’ leg.

The Whole Foods manager, insisted John let the shoplifter go, and told the media that the fact that John had touched him, period, was grounds for termination.

Wow, That’s going to make it pretty difficult for them to enforce any type of shoplifting security….

Breakin’ It Down: Greywater

Posted in environment, food/drink, green tips, health, home by thuy | Tags:

Greywater is water that flows down sink, shower, and washing machine drains–but not the toilet. Greywater may contain traces of dirt, food, grease, hair, and household cleaning products. While greywater may look “dirty,” it is a safe and even beneficial source of irrigation water. If released into rivers, lakes, or estuaries, the nutrients in greywater (mainly phosphate from detergent) become pollutants, but to garden plants, they are valuable fertilizer. Aside from the obvious benefits of saving water (and money on your water bill), reusing your greywater keeps it out of the sewer or septic system, thereby reducing the chance that it will pollute local water bodies Reusing greywater for irrigation reconnects urban residents and our backyard gardens to the natural water cycle.

Peta Offering 10 G’s To Maker Of Vegetarian Foie Gras

Posted in animal cruelty, animal rights, food/drink by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Peta is putting the word out with an offer of $10,000 for any chef that can make a vegetarian version of foie gras. I’ve never been a pâté type of gal, so this doesn’t even sound appetizing, but hey, anything to avoid animals being force-fed for their not so appetizing enlarged livers is good by me.

Foie gras (pronounced ‘fwah grah’) has been exalted in some gourmet food circles as a prized delicacy, but if most people knew how foie gras is produced, they would be horrified.

Foie gras, the French term for “fatty liver,” is the product of extreme animal cruelty. It is the swollen, diseased liver of ducks and geese who are force-fed just up until the point of death before being slaughtered. Birds suffer tremendously, both during and after the force-feeding process, as their physical condition rapidly deteriorates. In just a few weeks, their livers swell up to ten times their normal size, and the birds can scarcely stand, walk, or even breathe. At this point, they are slaughtered, and their livers are peddled as a “gourmet” delicacy.

Gourmet delicacy my ass! That shit is straight up Janet if you NASTY!

Legs And Fran Boogie Says Yes You Can Do Good

Posted in charitable causes, events, food/drink, music by thuy | Tags: , , , , , ,

Hearing about parties like this one makes me miss the Bay Area. My homies Fran, Legs (Rock Steady Crew NYC) and Apollo (Triple Threat DJ’s) are doing the damn thang by providing a night with slammin’ music and HELLA fun in exchange for 5 bones and 2 cans of food that will be donated to the San Francisco Food Bank, which works towards ending hunger in SF by distributing food and advocating for improvement in government food programs and policies.

I know we’re all watching our dollars nowadays but this is one event that you better not even think about asking to guest list love for.

Nice work fellas. I got 5 on it. 4-1-Fever represent!!

Eco-Brew Baby!!

Posted in environment, food/drink by jen | Tags: , , , , ,

As a beer-drinking Canuck from the Great White North, I was stoked to stumble upon this Green Beer Guide at greendaily.com. At least two breweries have started to make the switch to eco-friendly brewing methods.

Brooklyn Brewery was the first New York company to make the switch to wind-generated electricity. This move halts 335,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, 1,500 of sulfur and 500 pounds of nitrogen oxide from being emitted into the atmosphere every year.

New Belgium Brewing Company is another brewery making positive changes. They reuses their own waste to meet 30% of their factory’s power needs, and the other 70% comes from wind power. They are also the makers of Fat Tire, a beer that I’ve had the opportunity to sample at various recent eco-events.

The moral of the story is that you can still get wasted, but with ‘green’ beer you’ll have a lot less guilt… unless of course you’re doing the walk of shame… ain’t nothin’ that can help you with that kind of guilt.
