Green Tip: Hang Dry Your Clothes

Posted in green tips by thuy | Tags: , , ,

Tumble drying your clothes consumes the most energy of all of your household appliances. Use nature’s dryer instead- air. Hang drying helps to prolong the life of your garments, as well as preventing shrinkage and fading.

Cutting your dryer use reduces your home’s emissions, and there’s strong evidence that human emissions, such as CO2, are changing the world’s climate.

If you have to use the dryer, keep the filter lint-free and run loads back to back while the drum is still hot. And to save energy with your washing machine, reserve hot water for very dirty loads, and always rinse in cold water.

Not all of us have the luxury of a house with a yard and clothesline, if this is your case, simply use any rods, racks or shelves in your apartment to hang dry your clothes. Bed Bath & Beyond & Target also carry retractable lines you can put up in your shower. Happy hanging.
