Oh Canada
Posted in environment by jen | Tags: canada, precipitation, reusable, waterNot so fast Canada, you might have to play nicely with your U.S neighbors soon. Apparently Canada’s seemingly endless water supply, might not be so abundant after all. According to Environment Canada, there is a push for the federal government to take a more significant role in managing the country’s fresh water supply.
Canada has a fifth of the world’s water supply but only 0.5% of the world’s population. The problem is only 7% of the water supply is reusable and only one percent is renewed by precipitation. In the event of a severe water deficit, there is anticipation of fighting between provinces over the supply, as well as pressure to ship water to the Southern U.S.
Hopefully this drives the message of conservation home- take shorter showers, turn off the tap while brushing your teeth etc… it’s common sense people!!
